JohnB
For something a bit out of the usual I plan to get started on this a/c. I have all the needed parts from my "leftovers" stash plus a Tamiya P-51 I had started a while back but put aside for "later". I guess now is later! LOL I saw one done a while back and it looked really good and that inspired me to do this one. Stay tuned!!! 9

JohnB
I had this P-51 partially built so I'm going to use it for the racer. The interior isn't the correct color but I'm not going to try to change that. It'll just have to do as is! LOL

Keep 'em comin Peter Agreed Peter and thank you! I'm still a bit concerned about the green interior of the model and am trying to come to terms with letting it stay that way since the real a/c had a custom gray painted interior. We'll see what I finally decide, etc.
Peterpools
John Just let it stay as the main focus and attention of the viewer will be the external paint scheme. Keep 'em comin Peter

Keep 'em comin Peter Here's what I've decided to do Peter. I'll start from scratch using a Revell kit. That way I can go on and build it with more accuracy. I just couldn't bring myself to stay with the Tamiya model with the green cockpit! LOL Fingers crossed all will go well.
Peterpools
John Which Revell Mustang kit are you thinking of using? Do you have the new Revell P-51D Late with the tail fillet? I'm mostly through the painting on my Revell Mustang but can't finish it until after all the house reno work is done, so I'll be getting my Mustang juice from your build. On the new Revell kits there are a number of Cuss Factor areas as you would say and no where in the league of the Tamiya kit. Keep 'em comin Peter It's the one without the dorsal strake but my plan is to graft on a tail from one of my Tamiya builds that I didn't need the section with the strake. Test fitting shows it'll match up fairly well. I also have a couple of resin tails with the strake I can use if needed. I THINK I have all the bits and pieces I'll need, seat, prop, drop tanks, etc, so now I'll get started with the build. Fingers crossed!!! 2
Peterpools
John Good plan and fingers crossed no issues. The inner leading edges and gun port covers are the two tricky areas. No question in my mind, you get everything to fit and have no problems. Keep 'em comin Peter

Right now I'm test fitting things and cleaning up molding tabs. Looks like the Tamiya spinner with the prop out of my stash of leftovers will work just fine. I've removed the fuselage fuel tank and laid in a blanking piece. Next I'll get started painting the interior light gray and go from there.
Peterpools
Good idea John. I'm still playing with the Revell Hub and Prop as the fit isn't the best. Keep 'em comin Peter
JohnB
Test fitting of Tamiya spinner and backing plate with stash prop. Fits okay together (with a little trimming) and with the nose of the kit. Blanking piece in place behind cockpit.

Otherwise it would really be a PITA! LOL

GusMac
This is going to be cool. Always fancied doing the Smirnoff Bearcat using the Draw Decals set but never found a kit at a price I thought was reasonable.

I did one in 1/48 using the old Hawk kit many years ago. Never got any decals for it though since no one made them then.
