PanzerWomble Posted December 27, 2023 Posted December 27, 2023 Hello are there any good reference books you might recommend? I’ve an old book about their history but it only has a few pix . 1

Guy the two I have are below "The anatomy of a ship" is a must for building .The other book showed me that Trumpter based the Sharnhorst model off the Gneisenau kit with minor changes if that the most glaring obstacle being lookout deck.I use "The Anatomy of a Ship" just about every step now really a great reference. 3

KevinM Posted December 31, 2023 Author Posted December 31, 2023 I had one day out of my Holiday I could/felt like working in the shop. The three main turrets are just about complete really worked on the color to match the book and it does the flash lightens the color a few shades. The search light is for you Rob a finicky little piece to build I say about 15/20 pieces maybe from Veteran Models.I built up some of their 3.7cm guns what a PITA they were have some on order from Bunker Studios should be here next week the two you see are VM's. A turret has already gotten another coat of paint 10
DocRob Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Great progress with adding detail after detail, Kevin, your Scharnhorst will be epic. Watching the last pic, I may would add a tiny drop of thinned flat black color into the portholes for contrast. Cheers Rob 1 1

Unfortunately all portholes have been drilled and will be continued.I am still not sure how/if I will weather this one this scheme was barely on her before a change occurred again. 2
Landlubber Mike Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Wow Kevin, fantastic work! The bridge is amazing. It's quite large - almost a model itself. 1 1

Peterpools Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Kev Amazing and epic work. The level of detail being added surely shows the skills of the builder. Just blown away but the work and brilliance of the build. 1
KevinM Posted January 14, 2024 Author Posted January 14, 2024 Thanks Peter taking a small break/incursion into a WWI Fokker DVII ATTM the lozenge wings are interesting. 2
Peterpools Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Kev Taking a break from such a demanding and intense build has been earned. Looking forward to following our progress and watching you work your magic on the Fokker DVIII. 1

Here is where I am right now Peter.I was thinking of asking Guy where he has his post "finished" we start a thread for 1/48 WWI builds "completed" kinda like a running group build I have like five more in the stash. The lozenge decals are far from perfect my first rodeo to say the bottoms came out much smoother live/learn.I will accent with some in browns methinks not much rigging on this one I am into 12/15 hrs ATTM.. 4 1
DocRob Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 Nice little Fokker and I really like the colorful chosen scheme, Kevin. These Eduard 1/48 WW1 birds are great little kits. I have some in stash and made a twin build of two lozenged SSW´s some years ago, using a lot of goodies. So far for the ´completed 48 stringback´ section Cheers Rob 1 1

Great DVIII, I think you nailed the lozenges better than on my Pfalz. BTW - I found this section ...WW1 1/48 and larger Ready for Inspection. link I'm game for a few more biplanes , picked up the Eduard 1/48 Albatross and Roland . Fancy making a few 1/48's to get a feel for it then maybe moving towards some Roden 1/32's . I am way too tight to throw down for WNW at current prices. Need to move this daft U Boat on a bit . 2
