Revell Me262 B-1/U-1

Recommended Posts

Similar to @ScottsGT's He111, I've got a bulkhead issue.

K189 attaches to K190:

Here are the parts. Note the tab in the centre of K189.

Fit looks okay...

...except they're not flush because of that tab

I'll probably notch K190 and hope that works.

One thing I’ve learned on the He 111 project is to look forward in the instructions at the diagrams and parts layouts if anything looks suspect.
I got bit with the steering yoke assembly and how it mounts. I put a main (gardan) shaft in upside down because in that step it showed the yoke mount ears were round on top.

But if I had looked ahead I would have seen that I was supposed to mount it with the holes up.

After unwrapping the patient, the cockpit looks ok.

Next up, I fitted the ammo chutes to the fuselage halves.

PXL_20240202_043740299_MP.thumb.jpg.9cd8be325e79ab6e80d4756194c46bc5.jpg

Then I added the Mk108 cannon to the topside of the nose gear bay.

I removed the barrels for the outer pair as these will get replaced with much longer MG151 barrels. Since I'm not having the gun bay open, the breech is irrelevant and more just to hold the barrels in place. The inner pair of Mk108 barrels were drilled out in case anything is visible.

Doing a test fit of the fuselage halves and nose bay, I noticed that the gear bay sides needed to be chamfered in order to fit. You can see the bare plastic where I sanded the sides.

With that done, I glued the fuselage halves together.

So the Me262 suffers from open panel syndrome. The gun bay cover  and engine cowlings are meant to be displayed open.

If you look closely at the built model on the box the engine cowls are proud of the engine pods. Either that or they're the little seen up armoured version with 2" armour plate for cowlings.

That being said, with some tweaking and lots of test fitting, they can be made to fit reasonably well. The fit will improved further once they're glued in place.

While I worked on the fit, i decided it was best to add the nose weight to make sure I didn't create any interference issues.

I also finally started painting the seats. I'll need to get those in before I install the cockpit.

Our oldest became a teenager today so I didn't get much done as we had family over to celebrate. The brisket turned out nice, just a couple slices left so that's good.

As a result, I didn't get to spend much time on the 262. I did get the nose cowlings on though.

The smaller one required some trimming of the bulkhead to fit properly. You can see the cut back edges here.

Then it was glued on too and now to let them dry.

You build as fast, as the Schwalbe was seen by it´s opponents, Carl. I have the same kit in stash and shuddered, thinking about the flimsy box full of AM, interestingly completely different from your choice.
I will follow your progress, as the 262 is up my schedule, but that´s not meaning too much.
Jet Exhaust from AK is a strange color, and one of the less durable ones besides Titanium, but I like the effect, you achieved.

Cheers Rob

Uh oh.  You now have a teen in the house.  Drink up buddy!  Those hormones are going to start kicking in and life is going to be interesting.

Congrats?

Thanks Scott. It's going to be fun.

We're trying to figure what happens in a couple more years when it's time for a driver's license. I've joked we'll send him for his driving test in my '91 Beat. I haven't come across anything that says the car you do your exam in can't be right hand drive...

I have about 30 detail pics from the Me 262 nightfighter from NASM Pensacola, I took a decade ago, If you want them, I can put them here Carl.

Cheers Rob

Thanks Rob! You should post them in the walk around section. That way others can find them if they need them.

I made up a set of seatbelts since I didn't want to use the kit decals. These are HGW belts but I used the Wako instructions for threading them together. HGW sometimes cheats and doesn't actually have you thread the belts through the buckles the way they're done in real life. I find that a bit silly so I just do them the way they're supposed to be.

Either those done, I installed the cockpit tub into the fuselage.

Lastly, I started assembling the main wing. The trailing edge flaps will go in after as this way I can get a better join along the rear of the wing.

Those seatbelts look very good, it´s boring work with the HGW sets, but the result speaks for itself. Needless to say, I went through the same painful process several times. Do you have a picture or link for the Wako instructions; Carl?

Cheers Rob

My oldest took his second test (failed his first test in moms car) in my 1995 Mustang GT convertible.  He got in the car, buckled up, started the car and asked the lady which way.  “Uh, young man, you gotta put the top down first, then I’ll tell you which way we’re going.”   He aced that test.

Well, the Beat is a convertible too so that's good to know.
