Nice progress for sure. I'm still always amazed and somewhat envious at your ability to work on so many kits simultaneously and maintaining your high standards for each kit. :construction:

Time for fun with lights.

The wing lights I bought are synchronized so that they'll blink in unison. Which means they're connected to one another. So I had to run them through the lower hull and then out to the wings. No biggie, except it meant I have to run them through the lower hull, then through the upper wing and then glue the LED to the lower wing.

In order:

1) run through lower hull

PXL_20240320_003211787.thumb.jpg.bb37d484262ddc2a201624006dc428fc.jpg

2) run through upper wing

PXL_20240320_003318383.thumb.jpg.786c0c5488a44f6e5ea9a3b48249f9b8.jpg

3) glue LED to lower wing

4) glue upper and lower wings together

PXL_20240320_005112372.thumb.jpg.51cd187f393f7fd4af90ef2916c6b4f5.jpg

5) glue wing to lower hull

Now to repeat for the other side.

Continuing the lighting, I installed the coaming lights and ran the wiring  through the panel and then the coaming.

The panel was then glued to the coaming.

PXL_20240321_003418077.thumb.jpg.2d2c463afb15b4bc8a003c7dd5e311c7.jpg

I then glued the louvers to the upper hull.

PXL_20240320_011704183.thumb.jpg.93edf274663a2ac5acf4b58fc14722c9.jpg

The mid sections were next.

PXL_20240320_125753357.thumb.jpg.343bdab20b3d94c4563588b44d9d1240.jpg

The next section was the rear of the cockpit.

PXL_20240321_013211428.thumb.jpg.551c725e978f5b70de82a229db77f9f2.jpg

I did a test fit of the upper hull to the lower with the canopy in place.

PXL_20240321_013203366.thumb.jpg.5c38daddb6a87ef8989304e1d019cdf9.jpg

Lastly, I glued the vanes into the engine nozzles.  The fit was a bit loose so I used a clamp to tighten it up.

Nice Carl, I like Sci Fi subjects with lighting. Like Peter said, the Cylon Batwing is indeed bigger than thought.

Cheers Rob

Thanks folks! When I first picked up the kit, I didn't quite expect it to be as big as it is.  The hull just fit inside the box, not what I was expecting.

Onto today's progress. Fur stopped by to check on the nozzles and gave her jab of approval.

PXL_20240321_232528070.thumb.jpg.07aa074885ec0f0fed7f034c0cb15411.jpg

I used UV gel to glue the LEDs to the back of the nozzles.

PXL_20240322_011843840.thumb.jpg.fb51b794603c433f1c9d7489756add3e.jpg

Then it was time to install them and close up the hull halves.

All the wires have been run through to the cockpit, which there thankfully isn't one.

With the canopy in place and on its stand.

Getting closer to the finish line.

Nice progress and agreed, the model is BIG!

Of course, now I know how you can have so many projects underway at once and no issues: Fur is there keeping an eye on the goings on.

Fur does her best to keep me in line. I'm probably one of the few modelers who has a cat in their lap while they're at the bench.

The Cylon frisbee really doesn't leave much room for anything else on my bench. So I guess I best finish it before I go back to one of my other projects.

With that in mind, I did the detail painting on the canopy. First I did the frames and panels in Light Ghost Grey. This was done freehand.

PXL_20240323_001327008.thumb.jpg.a5b0c4145a873b29c4d5e99a8e8537aa.jpg

The grey was then masked off and I sprayed the semi-gloss black.

PXL_20240323_004150498.thumb.jpg.ccf63bca64305f4ea6505acba7b441d6.jpg

Unmasked.

PXL_20240323_004553966.thumb.jpg.47d87e75c4fe21bbc0974838ee405dda.jpg

There are a couple stripes on each outer wing. I again masked things off and then sprayed them.

PXL_20240323_012101012.thumb.jpg.7b32b977a47091681242ffb667bd0d93.jpg

I used Extra Dark Sea Grey for these.

With both sides done.

Took a closer look today at my tool storage and we'll, it's messier than I thought.

Not sure if many folks have caught on, but I actually have two benches, one beside the other. Here's the one I do most of my work on.

PXL_20240326_175135405.thumb.jpg.5371da8a5127021033a746d9c7ea693f.jpg

This is my other bench next to it. At least, there is one under everything.

Yeah, maybe time to do some tidying.

Had the day off work so I got the Raider finished.

I drilled out the laser blasters.

PXL_20240326_144031930_MP.thumb.jpg.d8f1a41a3352559017ddbcc14c4a7236.jpg

It when mounted them to the wings along with the last couple of details.

PXL_20240326_153821700.thumb.jpg.dc7e308c231359c4e36268141482d147.jpg

With those done, I wired up the battery and turned the lights on...

The red ones on the lower hull blink in unison.

PXL_20240326_190344369_MP.thumb.jpg.ff2da500ab7a48338782f83f7e78a399.jpg

Being as big as it is, for now I've put the finished Raider atop the TV console until I hopefully get the new display case built this summer. She's in good company for now.

PXL_20240326_190849376.thumb.jpg.e90a7b8951c21706e5ca508fd1c9b10c.jpg

Overall, this was a fun, fairly uncomplicated build and I really enjoyed it.

You can see the reflection on the table top from the lower wing lights

If you're interested in doing any LED lights, I recommend Evan Design. If you have any sort of questions, email them and they'll help you out. They'll even do custom setups for a nominal fee. I have a setup for my Valkyrie build that they helped me out with.

Now back to bench clearing of a different kind.
