RalphSarc
Looking really good Ralph. Hi there Guy. Haven't seen you around? How are things in Guelph?
RalphSarc
Continued to sand and fill small gaps and divots here and there. Also was able to install the top fuselage section and section covering the radio set. Fit was pretty good! Will build, weather and chip the cockpit instrument panel and fuselage section tomorrow evening after a day in the garden and backyard.
RalphSarc
Finished my yard and garden work early so decided to take advantage of some beautiful southern weather and model outside on the deck!! Finished sanding the upper fuselage and installed the tail-feathers! Love the look of the rivets on the rudder so ordered a rivet tool and may try my hand at that on the fuselage and wings. Also ordered Eduard resin weighted tires as I really like that effect.
RalphSarc
A good modeling afternoon on the deck. Installed the pilots instrument panel and the instrument photo-etched panels and added a bit of weathering. While that was drying I dry fitted the front canopy and to my delight it fit like a glove!!!
RalphSarc
Question: What is the round structure on the top fuselage?? At first I thought it was a vent of some sort but not sure anymore as this has a clear plexiglass cover. Any guesses??
Administrators James H Posted May 20, 2014 Administrators Share Posted May 20, 2014 This looks so good Ralph. I'd love to see an image of the nose from the front, with the canopy attached (off centre) so I can gauge that shape. The 88 looks very cool with a solid nose. Here are the picture you requested. Just finished sanding the cowling that fits over the instrument panel so the nose is done. I've cut brass tubing as a substitute for the resin machine guns/cannons that came with the nose conversion. They worked well on my BF110 project so will use them on this build. The aftermarket nose and gondola did require a lot of finessing out of the box but all in all I'm pretty pleased with the conversion.

There is a more accurate name, too early to think...need more coffee. Build is looking really good.

I did a internet search and can only find references to nose antenna mounted radar!
lawman56
Same here, Ralph. All I found was references to nose mounted radar. Therefore, I have decided........it's a moonroof! Highly sought after option, but only available on the "luxury-sport" editions, with power window and door locks, of course......

I did further searchers and Rick was correct. It is a directional radar unit used to home in on airfields. Here are some pictures!

RalphSarc
Nice! Well at least we know for sure. I really thought it was some sort of blower or vent.
colt6
Hi Ralph, its a pleasure to watch you building this model. Great that you find the information about the Peilgeraet PEILG6. In electronics the germans were really ahead of their time, also on the mechanical side of that stuff. Everything was equipped with self connecting plugs and fast locks. Just put the new receiver on the top of his frame in to the hinges and press it down, turn the four screws and finish. I like the part, where you build it outside on the deck Anyway, you make me looking forward to build my A-4 Thanks Arno

I'll be on the deck this afternoon enjoying the sun while I mask the cockpit canopy and other glass items readying the fuselage for a coat of primer. It's a beautiful day here with temps in the 80's!

RalphSarc
It was such a beautiful day in Atlanta I decided to take the build outside onto the deck again. Spent five hours, lunch and several potty breaks assembling and masking the main cockpit canopy!!! For those of us that have built the older Revell Ju88A kit and even if you haven't prepare yourself for a totally intricate assembly! The new five part canopy fits better than the older model canopy but requires eleven miles of tape and just a tiny bit of extra thin! Here are the results and oh don't ask me to do yours, lol!! The beginning Windshield canopy complete. Fits like a glove. Side canopies. Side view of completed canopy. Two piece gunners canopy is a bit tricky! Top view of assembled canopy. Done, lol!! Good luck and remember I'm not doing yours :-)

colt6
I know what you mean Ralph, some times its just more fun to do something with your buddy. So my friend works with me on the same place and we share most of our hobby's, I pretty like that!!
wackyracer
Hi Ralph. Excellent work once again. Just a quickie. I think the front opening for the machine gun is faired over on the C versions of these. Might just want to check before you go to spraying? Aaron

I hadn't noticed that on any off the pictures I have but stuck out like I sore thumb when I looked! I'll have to do a bit of filling!
