Playing in the Sandbox Group Build Sept 1, 2024 - Jn 1, 2025

AFV Club SD Kfz 231 8-RAD Armored Car in Progress

Hi Guys...

Been  working on this one for a while for a group build at Armorama:

...You start with a nice solid frame:

And four differentials...

64811584_671153126684765_796025228859172

Everything goes together sweetly.  All axles are flexible...

The engine ends here...

Once the wheels are on, it's hard to do anything below and under the fenders...  so I decided to paint here.

I would come to wish I hadn't followed the kit's instructions to add the tools and storage to the fenders until later.

Weathered the wheels and suspension with pigments.

This thing's got too many bits to knock off!

64789647_671153483351396_288930909799002

Dang-it!  Forgot to make headset for the commander!

Wouldja believe I still have to add eight valve stems and valve stem protectors.

Thanks fer looking!

Really nice build so far Gaz. There's something about these German 8 wheelers that's so cool.

You should try a 12-wheeler, like the M35 Mittlere Pzwg ADGZ-Steyr.

I've seen pics of that...  Crazy looking thing!

I need to get a modern-tool 232. So far, the only ones I've built are the 1/48 Bandai when I was a kid, and the 1/35 Tamiya the second year I started modeling again. I have AFV's 263 so maybe I'll pick up this one as well.

There's no shortage of parts and detail here.  The tough part is not knocking all of the detail off!

I can see it now..... if I did one it's be leaning like a drunken sailor fresh out of the bar after 6 months at sea.

The suspension is flexible.  So, it has potential for your plan.

Gaz, looks good ! More soon ?......harv

Thanks Harv, buddy!

Right now it's glazed up with oils, making it real hard to photograph.  Maybe once it dries I can take some more in-progress pics.

Ok...  here's the commander.  I still suck at figures.

Looking good, the half portion, specially the headphones. Maybe a little bit too much lip gloss and spread to wide, seriously, does he receive a flat coat to reduce the shine?

Cheers Rob

Thanks!  Yes, everything will get a flat coat...  once I've finished the rest of the weathering.
