Takom M3 Grant

Recommended Posts

With the F4J and Ships Camel at finishing stages and associated trials, it was time to do some building. Had the M3 Grant for awhile in the stash. The Lee / Grant story is well known but I didn’t realise a Lee had 7 man crew and the Grant a 6 man crew.

This will be my second Takom and is well engineered with little to no flash. Starting with the running gear, for each there are 17 components, two of which are the bolts to be shaved off the sprue and positioned. There are six of these so a little consuming but they build up beautifully. The only AM I’m adding is the RB 75mm M2 and 37mm turned barrels. The Tiger build burnt me out with PE, although Takom do supply a small amount......hoping you guys enjoy.....

Differences between Lee and Grant, photo sourced for information only......Grant left, Lee right.

Nice! I just picked up the Miniart Grant Mk II kit last week. It'll be interesting to see the difference in build up.

Are you going to do the Caunter paint scheme?

Carl

Carl, it looks like Miniart are going to release every variant of the Lee / Grant, are you going to a log, not sure on scheme yet.....

Phil, you might be right on that one.

I'll most likely do a build thread when I get to the kit. Still want to finish the He219 and the rail car first before I tackle anything else.

Interesting to see how this goes together. Remember butchering the old Airfix one as a kid.

I never did any Airfix AFV’s in any scale so I missed the experience. I do remember my first model was Airfix Lysander 1/72 in the old header bags......

Only armour I remember doing as a youngster were the Lee and Airfix's 'Monty's Humber'. It sticks in my mind as I tried to do a diorama base for it using polystyrene and then stuck it down with the old Airfix tube glue with predictable results....

I've been eyeballing this kit. Glad to see a build review of it here. Looks good quality.

the quality is very good, not an excessive part count and relatively cheap.
When 1/35 tank kits are starting to cost between £60- 70 mark I do look at them twice....

Building some armour every now and then is good to keep the juices going. Looms like a typical great Takom kit!

Building armour is a good reset for me, the F4 almost drove me mad. This the second Takom I’ve built, and enjoying it......

Good to see you back at the bench, not so good, to have heard why Phil. I wish you the best with  your situation, but meanwhile it looks good how you rock the Grant. Seems like painting stage is approaching, were the real fun starts.

Cheers Rob

Great progress on your Grant.

It's interesting to see the differences between the Takom kit you're building and the Miniart one I've got on the go.

Carl

Thanks Carl, I’m adding turned barrels as you can see, the Takom hasn’t a dust cover for the 75mm, I’ll do some research to see it needs it. Did the Miniart go together easily?

Thanks Rob, good to be back, I’ve been furloughed for the coming month, all of September, so I’m going to get as much bench time as I can......

The Miniart comes with a moulded dust cover as an option. So far it's been going together nicely with the one fit issue having been due to operator error.
