Bf 110D of II./NJG3 (1/32 Dragon)
Mikester replied to mywifehatesmodels's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Really looking good, John! But curse you for getting me all enthused about building another 110, I keep breaking out that Super Bug G-4 conversion set and daydreaming!- 86 replies

That's a keeper, Ralph! Gorgeous work as always, that exhaust staining really looks spot on. -

Great stuff, John!

Steve, uh maybe! I just vaguely recall this topic and unfortunately really am in the dark about it.

I've read that the G-6/AS had some slight differences in the panel lines as opposed to the G-10. Does anyone have any info on this?

HPH Models 1:32 Focke Wulf Ta-154 'Moskito'
Mikester replied to JeroenPeters's topic in Aircraft Reviews
Great review, Jeroen. I'll definitely need to pick this one up, along with the Me 410 and the Fw 189. The gaps in 1/32 Luftwaffe aircarft are really starting disappear, who would have thought we'd be seeing these kits several years back? -
Jim, I use them right out of the bottle. I think sometimes I get some color shift though because I have a bad habit of dumping thinned paint back into the bottle if there's a significant amount of paint left over. I don't have a huge amount of contrast between the 74 and 75 but in some photos it looks like this was the case anyway, at least that's what I tell myself!

The first half of my "build-off" is complete. This is the Hasegawa Bf 109G-10 with the EagleParts Erla conversion set. I had two conversion sets in the stash prior to the Revell Erla G-10 release. Although it's a little more work grafting on the resin nose, to me the EP cowl looks much more the part than the Revell kit which is a little anemic in the forward portion of the cowl and I don't think they did a real good job capturing the subtle shapes of the 110 cowl. Other than the cutting and sanding that goes with a resin conversion not much to report. I did use fair amount of add on goodies on this one: BarracudaCast Spinner and Propeller Blades BarracudaCast Wheels BarracudaCals Erla Bf 109G-10 Part 1 Quickboost Exhausts Quickboost MG 131 G-Factor Landing Gear Aries Cockpit EagleParts Erla Conversion set EagleParts Battery Cover Master Details Drop Tank Master Details Wheel Bay Inserts Replacement Tail Wheel (MFR unknown) Paint: Mr. Color shot with Grex Tritium GS airbrush with .2mm needle

John, My bad, $216 at the current exchange rate. No wait a minute, export price is 161 euros so that's $177.
-
I balked at the price of the HpH kit initially but at $164 it's basically the same price as the HK Do 335. Considering you get PE and metal parts, HGW seatbelts and it really doesn't need any after-market (besides there isn't any!) it's really not that bad. I've got single engine fighters that I've got $75 invested in by the time I'm done so the the price really isn't that far out of whack.

I'm real close to pulling the trigger on the HpH 410.

On the home stretch now! Jim sent me some Lifecolor acrylic washes a couple of years back which I tried and didn't like. I was just using water to thin them though, I figured I'd give them another go thinned with alcohol this time and they behaved much better. I've used Exhaust Oil and Dirty Grease for the oil cooler leaks. I'm not sure I'm in love with it, feel free to let me know what you think of the effect: Quickboost Exhausts, painted Mr. Color Burnt Metal with a Lifecolor Burnt Rust wash and Tamiya weathering pastels: BarracudaCast wheels and G-Factor landing gear struts, the resin nose is really heavy and I was concerned about the plastic struts ability to hold up so I splurged on the metal gear. I didn't have a mask for the correct shape for the spinner spiral so I ended up using a decal, which I normally dread for this job. Hair dryer to the rescue, although it's useless to me for it's intended task it works outstanding for getting decals to settle down, if you're not using this trick you need to!
