Hey Maru! Whoa, I did not see that coming! I have also witnessed some rather nasty back and forth between members over at the other forum, but have NEVER seen anything but sincere and admirable behavior from you! I have been a member here for a while, though honestly do not post a lot. I visit the other one from time to time, and yesterday noticed that someone was asking where you were. Someone said you had left, and I really wondered WHY? I am sad to hear that someone (or some people) singled you out, as you are one of the most pleasant, thoughtful people I know on these forums. I have to admit, a forum that treats Maru that way is a forum I don't really want to visit anymore. Sorry for the long winded reply, it's good to see you are doing well here!

Gorgeous work my friend, good information on those kit decals! Now I won't be afraid to use the kit markings on mine. Curious as to why you used the Quickboost propeller instead of the kit supplied version?

Nice choice John, where are those decals from? Haven't seen many Korean War decal sets aside from the AIMS set but none of those really spoke to me. I like the markings you have chosen!

Fingers crossed for you Peter, hope the electricity (and the heat) stay on! Here in Wisconsin, not as much snow this year as usual but PLENTY of the brutal arctic air. Air temp a couple of days ago (without the wind chill) was -27 degrees F.

Thank you so much Ron, I appreciate that! If you've never built one of these kits, you're in for a real treat! So far, this is one of if not my all time favorite kit to build.

I usually use Gunze Levelling Thinner, takes paint and clears right off without damaging the plastic. I have even used it on canopies with no ill effects.

Sounds very similar to what I had two weeks ago, no fever (temp 97.2), with chills, sweats, and very uncomfortable abdomen. After driving the porcelain bus, I felt better and spent two full days sleeping around the clock. Tested negative, but felt like 10 lbs of $H1T stuffed into a 5 lb bag.

Thank you Mike for explaining the differences between the "standard" Camel and the "Comic" version, I knew there were differences but did not know exactly what they were. Looking forward to seeing your take on this one, and what you do make an accurate Comic.

Could the basic racing tips be 3d printed? Just a thought...

Bravo John, she looks gorgeous in that scheme! I can see why you want to build another one, the racer paint scheme really makes her stand out. I also like that "Race 49" bumblebee scheme, WOWZA!

Thank you, I was very happy with how the finish turned out on this one. It's subtle, in fact some of it is almost invisible in the photos. Hopefully, the -1D I'm working on turns out as well. What happened with yours? Curious to hear what went south on it. There's a couple of areas in these kits to be careful with during assembly, I only discovered them myself by accident.

A few photos of my progress! First, I gave the entire model a coat of satin varnish to kill a bit of the shine and bring the paint, decals, etc to the same shine level. There must be a word for that but I don't know what it is. I also finished up the propeller, though it will receive some more dirt and streaking effects later. Photos I studied of these aircraft on Iwo Jima showed that many of them had the rear faces of the blades almost entirely scrubbed of paint. Many also showed no signs of the yellow paint on the blade tips on the backside so I decided to do mine that way. I made sure to paint the rubber cuffs a slightly different shade and not chip them at all. The wheels were installed in the Barracuda resin tires, and then the red anti rotation stripes (?) were painted on. The wheels will still get a lot of weathering effects applied to them later. I also did the "Uncle Dog" antennas in a woodgrain effect, base-coated in Tamiya deck tan and numerous oils were slopped on the gently wiped off to leave the grain. It's hard to see the grain in the photos, but it is there! Next, time to start installing some of the loose pieces and begin weathering it. The weathering phase is one of my favorites and I am looking forward to starting that soon. Thanks for looking in!
