  1. Yeah I know, not another boring Mustang build, but I’ve been putzing away at this for awhile now, scraping, sanding, fitting, and just generally making a mess. I refuse to let this one linger on the SOD, especially since I have just about every bit of AM needed to finish her off in grand style. It’s time to show off the masterpiece of one of the true pioneers of accurate 1/32 resin kits.
  2. Hey Dave! In a couple months I’ll be all over it. I’ve been cutting out parts, but hey, I love carving resin. I’ll have a build thread up and running soon.
  3. John, that looks awesome! If you’d like, sure! I’m pretty much past the interior, but I’d love to see. Mine was the -1H version so it only had one pilot seat, one set of controls, and the big radar where the copilot seat goes. Plus no top turret, aftermarket radio room, and the big ol’ gun under the floor Hoorah!
  4. Peter you know me way too well! I love Kent’s build and it surely 8nspired me, but I’m a “ready for flight” kind of builder, so it will have some open crew hatches and windows of course, but that’s it. I’m torn in regards to schemes. Standard USN, or an RCAF or RCN bird to be different. I’ve had the big Cat completely mocked up, and it’s not really much bigger than my Felixstowe at all. Bulkier and taller, but not really bigger. The interior is 80% of this build. Too bad it’ll almost all be invisible when complete.
  5. Radu’s magic rivet tool is the tool version of Mr. Leveling Thinner. One of those rare products that improves your game 100 fold. Also, look at his scribers. Pure bliss on a handle. These things just work, and work well. No muss, no fuss.
  6. Yeah I saw that too. Kent is a true master. His weathering skills are decidedly several grades above mine, but I manage.
  7. Ha! Yup, I told Brian that if Texas was selected for 2020, the Cat it would be. I’m a victim of foot-in-mouth disease and a man of my word, so now I need to follow through. I think I have a bit of a head start on the Cat, though. I’ve been slowly cleaning, scraping, and rebagging parts over the last year or so, just when I had some time to kill, plus I mocked up the externals to get an idea on size. The main fiberglass airframe is nice and light, but the complete resin interior is heavy. Then hang the solid resin tail feathers off the tail end and I can see the need for a huge block of lead in the nose. As for the Kingfisher, I’ve built plenty of Kitty Hawk kits, so there will be no real surprise here. The only real need is for some extra detail in the pit and the beaching gear needs busying up.
  8. Yup, it’ll be a few pounds for sure. The noseweight alone will be plenty. I’m not sure it would be quite so bad if not for the solid resin tail feathers. There’s been precious few builds of this kit, although a few are now being completed.
  9. Very nice recovery on the gaps. Now break out Radu’s riveter and have fun.
  10. So I have some big plans. My PBJ-1H is starting to get close to needing paint, and as soon as I’m happy with it, we start on two specific builds. As I’ll have a lot of Navy blue and light grey on hand, I think some more Navy aircraft are in store. The Kitty Hawk OS2U Kingfisher, and then the HPH PBY-5 Catalina. It’s gonna be a busy two years, as I want the PBY ready in plenty of time for the 2020 US Nats. Hopefully the OS2U for next year’s Nats in Chattanooga? I got a definite promise from Ernie Gee that if I would build the kit and send him my original gear to use as masters, he would make them in bronze/brass, or whatever he uses. That was my one sticking point on that kit, and now it appears that barrier is lifted. Gonna be a fun time here on LSM.
  11. It’s awesome to be here, Cees, without a doubt. Old habits died hard.
  12. Yup. Thanks y’all. Peter, it’s been a slog, eh? There’s been a decided lack of hangar flying 8n my life lately, and everyt8me I try to actually do some real flying, life gets in the way it seems. Went to Phoenix of course with a bunch from the old place, and I won’t deny I had a great time. Didn’t do Pima, was still in transit, but not sure I would have gone anyway. 5 hours in the Arizona sun doesn’t sound much like fun. And all through the last three months, my business partner decided to retire, so I’ve been running around trying to buy him out. What a life.. LOL I’m gonna get going on the big HPH Catalina. Ernie Gee gave me a commitment on doing the gear in brass if I get him the originals, so,I’m gonna ship them to him now. That’s always been my biggest beef with that kit. The gear, despite having some steel rod internals, is still just resin, and I’m not sure it’ll handle a 6 lb model
  13. Dang man! Wow. Brian and I seemed to be in the bar alot, huh? Brian and I left and right away I got dragged back in, talking to someone, and ended up sitting and talking to Richard Alexander for an hour or two. He seemed like a decent bloke and we talked about everything but models. refreshing! Boy did I get Martin drunk on Thursday night. The guy was truly wasted. What a friend I am.. lol
  14. Nice start on this. It’s a great kit!
  15. Yup, awesome pics Mike. I think I walked right buy a bunch of you guys and I never once realized it.
  16. Like several others, I’ve come here from the other side, just looking to stay around friends, build models, and have a few laughs doing it.
  17. Was a darn good time! We had us a rip roaring party and plenty of cheap Scotch, vodka, and other swill was consumed.
  18. I think what we need to do is get on here and burn up the internet like we did on the other side. We had what I thought of as a FAMILY over there. It got blown up. Over silliness. No I’ll feelings here. It’s not my property, but dangit, I thought we really had something special. I hope we can bring it here
  19. Howdy Phil! It’s great to see you here and great to be amongst friends, man!
  20. Yup. I’ve got friends I made there and I like them around. John and Peter are good people.
  21. Welcome, John. I came back here a week or so ago as well, just for a change of scenery and to keep up with some friends who moved here. I’ll be posting some stuff as well. I’m looking forward to continuing my PBJ-1H build.
  22. I just saw this for the first time, and just bloody amazing!
