  1. I tried, but they don’t work for brush. However, you can use Vallejo Metal Color paints with a brush.
  2. Thanks, in all, it was about 2+ hours of masking inside and out. I cut the decals out for the chevrons with the curve, and transferred that to tape, then reverse masked it. A lot of effort, but worth it .
  3. Thanks, the paint looks vastly different according to what light it’s under. I think it will be perfect once the wash is on it. And yes, I think they needed bucket and brooms for hat was left of the wreckage.

Seriously! Go take a ride! I did on a C-47, it was a lot of fun.
  5. This is definitely not a shake and bake kit, it has to be a labor of love. But you are whipping it into shape.
  6. Masked and sprayed intakes today, next is clear and decals. I also still have to work out how to mount it on its base, since I neglected to build any support structure inside the fuselage before I closed it up, I’m going to have to figure out how to do it through the back end, sort of like a proctologist.
  7. Since I have been posting a lot of non-LSM builds lately, I thought I would throw this up. Not a recent, but a long term project, I started working on this over a year ago, And it’s been sitting in black primer for at least 10 months. Recently, I decided to order some MRP and Mr Color paints and get going on this. I ordered all the IDF colors from each and picked what I wanted. I went with Mr Color for the duck egg blue and sand, then chose tan and green from MRP, I felt these colors represented the early Skyhawk colors best. Here is what i have for now, more to come (someday).
  8. Yes, I’m working on another 1/48 aircraft. Tamiya’s F-14A has been a dream, I literally took this from a box of sprues to a ready to paint aircraft in 7 days, maybe about 20 hours total working time. This included converting the landing gear from extended to stowed. I had to make supports for the front gear bay to hold up the gear doors, and as there were 5, it was a little bit of a pain, fit was mostly good, but some small gaps on doors 3/4. In the rear, a little bit more work because the doors were not designed to fit into the fuselage. I had to make a new set of doors to fit because the original set were not finished, it was easier to make than fill and sand. My biggest disappointment with this kit is the lack of IP gauge detail, no Decals, nothing, just blank circles.
  9. Rob, I have been painting all year, and I can paint small jobs. Recently i changed my painting technique because i have been working with modern light grays for the last few aircraft. However, when my airbrush is moving air for over 45 minutes straight on one color, the compressor compresses the hot humid air, makes it more hot and humid, and just gets hotter and hotter. My last compressor literally melted. I kept smelling burning plastic, but figured it was something outside, it turned out my compressor was melting. We are due for a cool down and drop in humidity this weekend, so I plan to work on this then. And probably a few other models that need paint too. I may also employ an automotive air drier if I can get all the right fittings for it if I continue to have problems.
  10. Unfortunately, since I primed the helo, weather has been terrible, extremely high temperatures, humidity, and daily rain and thunderstorms have put a damper on my painting. My moisture filter while bravely doing its job, is no match for the weather. My airbrush sprays out water, and makes paint turn into splatter. If I spray for more than a minute, water starts to come out. And by my chosen method of blackbasing, I run at at an 80% duty cycle for more than an hour. So for now, all painting is on hold. I’m back to assembling plastic, keeping the production pipeline full.
  11. Great subject, I always wanted to do a Desert Storm bird. I’m slightly skeptical, having bought most of Italeri’s latest releases, I worry about the strange engineering choices and quality control (gaps, fit, sink marks) that are present in other kits. But in the end, it’s better than what we have...and let’s face it, I’ll buy it.
  12. Keep dry, put your models up high.
  13. Progress, cleaned up a few seams and spotted in a little more black paint.
  14. All I do now is just buy 18mm Tamiya tape, I cut it to size for special needs. I have found this is very useful for masking instruments and panels, I also use a set of leather punches for cutting small round circles.
  15. How can you say this? Do you know the person’s work? It’s it OK for someone to share their own work? You are making an ASSumption. Tribal sharing is better than information silos, if someone creates something and shares it, it makes society better overall, teaching others by example is the best of intentions. Don’t be an ASSumer...the person who created the artwork was the same as the person who posted it. Please check your facts before you make ASSumptions.
  16. No, the best investment I ever made was infini cutting boards, I can have any size line of tape I want. https://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/infit3001v1.htm
  17. I managed to get the Helo black based and ordinance all painted today, however, shortly after this picture was taken, my compressor exploded. Before I could clean the last color used out of my airbrush, I had to do a no air cleaning on the airbrush. It’s definitely a goner, it makes noises that are not normal. I have a new one on the way overnight and should be here by 8:00 am tomorrow. To be continued...
  18. I am so fascinated by it, I now want that!
  19. True! The trumpeter 1/32 Tomcat is about 700+ parts, the Tamiya 1/48 is about 250 parts. And as the parts are supposed to fit perfectly with little or no filling, I could build four of these in the same time.
