Having seen what GWH have done with Russian jets, I definitely will be getting the P-40, and no doubt on the SR-71. Razor crest is one I want, but it depends who is doing it.

Today I started with the front pit, these are far easier than PE, all the levers, knobs, and handles are printed front and back, so the side stuck to the paper is also colored. One thing to note, these are really 3D printed vinyl parts, they are not decals. Yes they are printed on decal paper, which makes them easy to remove by the modeler after printing, the glue is very weak. I did a test and tried to stick one of the panels on with the decal adhesive on the back, however, it just does not stick well. I dipped them into water, set them on a paper towel, and slide them off to dry (takes about 30 sec). I chose to use CA glue, but I suppose you could use any type of PVA glue too. I used medium thickness slow, but you don’t want it to dry too fast, so you have time to position them. It turned out to be a non-issue, since they fit so well, there was not much room to move around. So far I did the front half and had no issues, other than two of the levers went pinging off, I gave up looking for them and moved on, to notice that both have CA glued themselves to my shirt.

Step 1, shave the plastic. Because of the way Quinta is made and fits, I use an Xacto chisel blade to shave off the bumps, but you don’t have to sand it down flat. Some parts I sanded if the panels were a little too pronounced, but on this kit, it mostly just required switches and knobs shaved off. After that, I sprayed everything Dark Gull Gray, but hindsight, I think I should have tried dark Ghost Gray, might have matched slightly better.

So I started a new project in the last few hours of 2020, it’s a commission build that I promised to have done by end of January 2021, so I better get my butt moving! The build is going to be box stock Tamiya F-14D with the Gunfighter 164 from VF-101 Grim Reapers 2004 scheme, the exception being the Quinta Studios 3D interior. Originally, my customer wanted the Grim Reaper scheme included with the AMK Tomcat, but neither of us wanted to invest in a whole kit just for the decals, so we are going with the Tamiya option, OK with me, the slightly more colorful scheme looks good too.

This is getting funny, if not sad. When I was younger I see to laugh about how old people sit around and complaint about all their health ailments, now I’m one of them.

I think some of this is due to just old age and abusing my body in my early years. And from my neurologist’s own words, sometime we just never know why someone develops neuropathy. Usually it’s blamed on Diabetes, but considering for me, it’s fairly recent diagnosis, it’s hard to pin it on that. Due to other conditions, I go to a doctor at least twice a year, so it’s not like diabetes was unchecked for a long time. I turned 51 yesterday, and it seems like I started going down hill at 49...the joys of getting older.

May only be one, but it’s a stunner, I love this aircraft, it’s piękny!

Yes, I have been collecting stuff for a few years, I can’t even remember what I bought, but I’m probably going to order more from the above company, I like their engine light kit as well as their cockpit with figures.

Well this was an unusual year to say the least, I can’t even begin to go over all the weirdness, but at least I can show some of my completed kits. Not the best year for completions, but not the worst either. I ended up with 8 completed models, although I don’t have any photos of the Tamiya P-51D, it was a “good enough” finish, I slapped it together just to say it’s done, but many things went wrong during the painting stage, so rather than re-paint it, I left it alone, as I know what I did wrong and I have more in the stash, so I will address those issues on the next build. Hasegawa 1/48 A-7E Corsair II, MRP Paint, CAM decals, no AM. Revell 1/32 Iron Maiden Spitfire, Tamiya paint, kit decals, G-factor gear. Hasegawa 1/72 A-6E Tram Intruder, random eBay decals, MRP paint, no AM. Academy 1/35 AH-1Z Viper, MRP paints, kit decals, no AM Trumpeter 1/32 Mig-15, lots of AM everywhere, Modelmaker Masks, full rescribe and rivet job, Vallejo Metal paint. Tamiya 1/35 Marder III, Tamiya Paint, box stock. FeR 1/16 scale “Ivar the Boneless”, Vallejo paint.

That is a great kit, the only reason I didn’t buy it was that I have a Deagostini Studio Scale Millennium Falcon in my stash. Be very careful with weathering and paint, these do not like enamel and oil washes or paints, a friend of mine found large cracks in his after he used a wash.

My Christmas gift to myself, I bought 7 busts from FER to practice painting on.

I have an alternate proposal for those that don’t need or want a kit you may win, you can donate it to a good cause. I have made a few donations this year to the VA Hospital here in Murfreesboro, they have a model building class designed to help vets with neurological conditions, physical rehabilitation, and PTSD. My friend used to run that program and can make sure that any kits donated can make it to them, unfortunately, since they are on COVID lockdown they can’t take deliveries directly. But if you send them to me or him, I will make sure they get them. FYI, the vets like building cars and modern American jets, but any donations are welcome.

Many years ago, in 2000, I had a severe back injury that left me unable to walk for 3 months until I had surgery that gave me back 80% of my leg function. Ever since then I have dealt with varying pain every day, some are better than others, days like yesterday I took me 5 minutes to walk 30 feet to the kitchen. The last few years my discs have degraded to the point where i have significant scoliosis, curvature like a question mark shape in my spine. So I have always blamed leg/feet/back pain on my previous spinal damage. However, about 6 months ago, I switched primary care doctor, and he took a little more interest in my condition, and since I was also recently diagnosed with diabetes, he decided to check nerve function in my legs and feet, and he said I have neuropathy, at which time I told him that I have always had numb parts of my legs due to my back injury, but that recently I was getting a burning sensation in my feet, along with my feet feeling cold. He decided to send me to a neurologist, that neurologist confirmed that I do have neuropathy and that it is not related to my back injury, and most likely not related to diabetes (controlled through medication) due to the short amount of time that I had it. So he sent me for an MRI and took 11 vials of blood to test me for everything. Recently, i was dropping small things i held with my left fingers, I noticed the fingertips on my left hand started tingling last week, a sure sign the neuropathy is advancing to my hands. My neurologist told me that this does not affect motor control, but will affect pain receptors and sensitivity, so picking up small delicate things can be difficult. So, my question for the group here, does anyone else here have this issue, has it affected your model building? I think my hands can continue to create, but I worry about destroying everything I touch.

Awesome! I’m glad she is on her, way to a long and pain free life! Give her my best wishes!

It really works more consistently if you black base it, as long as you don’t go to far and just bomb the color it, using a very thinned color helps. These pics are not great, but the mottling shows up even better in person, and the colors are a bit more muted.
-
Love it! I like the way you have some life to the black paint!

I follow the “Doog” method. Prime the whole model in black, then paint tiny little squiggles everywhere to fill in each color gradually, make sure the paint is thin and the lowest pressure it will spray, then use minimal paint, takes many layers. MRP paint is perfect for this method, for MR Color, thin the crap out of it, maybe 70-80% leveling thinner. I pre thin my MR Color and put it in glass bottles. One advantage of this method, is that you have zero waste or overspray, it’s amazing how little paint you use when doing this, I got three whole models out of one bottle of MRP Ghost Gray.

Flies are just assholes! We don’t have a vent hood and they always get in the house in the warmer months, they just smell food and get in anyway. They sit there and wait by the doors, any small crack and they get in. My son and I usually go apeshit on them with flyswatters. I have even gone to far as to have a $1 per fly bounty on them, my son get a little extra cash and I get the satisfaction of knowing another little jerk got squashed.

Some day I will get back to mine, I got so far as to finish the cockpit, then realized the kit seat is terrible, ordered a new one and it has sat since then. -

Wow, I am amazed at how you can crank out nice models in such a short amount of time! -

It’s funny you say that, because today I looked inside a 1/32 tamiya phantom box and found a few pieces of AM I didn’t know I had. I have AMS intake plugs, a resin TER, and a couple of resin seats, the rest of the kit is new. Some of this of course is from buying second hand kits that have stuff with them. -
Yup, I bid on that collection, they won, but in my opinion, they vastly overpaid. While there were 10,000 kits, not all were newer or high end, however there were quite a few 1/32 Tamiya jets, maybe 50 in total. However, they were relatively close, and a hobby shop is the ideal purchaser, I estimated it would have taken me years to sell them.

Yeah, My memeory isn’t that great, but usually i know my kits. occasionally I look and find something new. A little while ago, I opened a cardboard box I had in my closet and found about 6 different armor kits, can’t remember where I got them. I also found that I had two 1/32 TA-4J’s, I only remember buying one.
