  1. It’s been a while, but I started back on this. I got the carb inlets bent, primered, painted, and glued in (thanks again John!). Today I sprayed all the number stencils on the stang. I am still deciding if I am going to use the HGW transfers on the stars and bars, or if I will use the montex masks. I am going to do some tests and see if they will harm or pull off the metal finish. For now, this is the only progress I made, hopefully I will get the stencils done and do a wash in the next week.
  2. Very sorry to hear, my condolences.
  3. Nothing like seeing the whole site covered in spam.
  4. Looks good, but that wingspan is huge! You almost need a base twice as big!
  5. FYI, I know because I attempted 2 purchases and got my payment refunded the next day on both.
  6. Unless something has changed, no chance in hell you will get anything from Germany, US is on a no ship list.
  7. Have not had an opportunity to work on anything since last Wednesday, but today I managed to paint both birds, light ghost for the A-7 and 3 tone for the A-6.
  8. The dust got to me in TN about noon on Friday, my family and I were at the beach when it seemed to get cloudy, but sun was still casting shadows. It’s been like that since them, but today the color seems a lot more orange/yellow. Seems cloudy, but it’s more like a thick haze, or a fog that’s lifted, strange thing, the sun is still getting through. As far as real sandstorms, I was in Phoenix AZ once when a true sand storm came through, we were on a hill and could see the wall of dust coming at us for about 10 minutes before it hit. That was strange.
  9. I like it Harv! I finally got my FT, I also got myself one of these stencils. I plan to do the same scheme you did.
  10. Megahobby.com sorta cheap. $135 shipped
  11. No, this is the exact same as the Trumpeter kit released in 2009, except it has decals for Ken Miles #1 car. The Meng is new tool, however, it will be very hard to beat the trumpeter, as this thing is loaded, the lines are perfect, and they include a buttload of AM goodies with it.
  12. It’s been a few days since I updated, because I am working on part 2 of the commission build (going to the same guy), a 1/72 A-6E, based on the old 1967 tool Hasegawa release. This thing is absolute crap! This makes 1960’s airfix kits look good. Every part of this piece of junk is twisted, warped, and asymmetrical. The canopy was the first thing I tackled because it was so bad. Unfortunately i kept on going, so here I am. Finally shot primer on today, and it’s clear I need a lot more filler. I also discovered that of 4 sets of decals included, all are junk, I had to order a new set.
  13. I for one am happy the DR.1 is continuing, because I really want one, and hoping the Lanc makes it to production somewhere. However....I could care less about PJ. I have worked for numerous companies where the executives ran the companies into the ground, made themselves a nice cushy out plan, and left the employees in the wind. Wingnut needed to fail, their life and failure resulted in a new level for other companies to rise to. And that it did...Meng, Copper State, and few others have risen to meet the new level of quality. PJ is stinking rich, could care less about the company, and probably just got bored with it. He will remain stinking rich for ever, and he won’t care what anyone thinks of him.
  14. I have been trying to buy from them for months, but unfortunately, they are not shipping to the USA.
  15. This build is kicking my but, took twice the cleanup of any trumpeter build in 1/32. Alas, I am getting past cleanup, scribed lost lines, now I’m going to painting stage. That will be another new area i have never delved into, salt stains and corrosion control. I am going to try to replicate this....
  16. I am seriously considering straying from 1/32 for the Mig-25PD
  17. My local IPMS club has a group buy on these, the president was promised the very first 5 kits to hit the US. We are hoping to see them next week. He came through on the B-24J’s when they came out, and this should be the same situation. However, they always seem to hit Europe before the US.
  18. Extra thin does not fog canopies. Getting the glue on the part you want clear will etch the surface. However, I have been using this technique for 2 year, a dozen models, and only one small mishap. The secret is you need a very good fit, almost no gaps, the extra thin will suck into the gaps and stay there, but don’t flood it, or it will go everywhere, less is more.
  19. Dreaded seam work, if I ever found a kit where you never need to sand a seam, I would buy 100 of them! Sprayed a little paint to check some seams and found a few issues. I laid down a little Mr Surfacer 500, then I have a wider seam I need to contend with between the top wing and fuselage. Intake is pretty well sorted out, just a tiny bit of sanding along the front lip.
  20. Love the work you are doing. Can I give you one piece of advice? Get yourself a cheap set of foresner bits, they make much nicer holes in soft wood, and even nicer in hard wood.
  21. Solving problems today. I found that my windscreen was about 2mm too wide, so I very carefully used tape to pinch it in, while flowing Tamiya extra thin into the gap, doing a few applications. I’m not bullshitting you, I was very nervous. Thankfully, after it dried, there were no visible glue marks. 2nd problem was no money for AM belts, so I improvised with green painted Tamiya tape. Good enough. But the majority of the day was spent gluing slats to the wings one piece at a time, as these were very, very warped and twisted. Thankfully, I was able to get them mostly flat to the wings.
