  1. It looks like the old Hobbycraft A-36, P-51, and P-51A are being re-released by Special Hobby. Could it be a coincidence? Maybe they will include some much needed resin and PE with them.
  2. Anyone in Europe may may be interested in this, only $82 USD, unfortunately shipping to the US is nearly $50, so this is a better deal in Europe.
  3. Found this at Spruebrothers. I struggled with buying it, but finally decided not to, as I would prefer the single seater. Expires 12/02/18
  4. I tried to read and decipher this, but I started getting a headache and blood trickled out of my ear, my wife asked if I smelled something burning.
  5. That is so beautiful...are you doing foil? I have no clue how to do foil, I had tried years ago with the big metal foil sheets, it was a disaster. For me, I would probably do good old Alclad chrome, not perfect but acceptable.
  6. I think I would reconsider doing 7 again, maybe 3-4 at once. 7 takes a LOT of bench space. Although I will still argue that it’s more efficient to build 7 at once, even if it takes me 6 months, that’s still a better than one a month average. Last year I built 4 LSP’s, this year (2018), I built 4 by June, but have not finished any since then. I started a WNW kit that is 60% done, and I have the 7 P-40’s on the bench, and I recently added 2 zeros. If I can actually get the P-40’s done this year, with one Zero, I will have finished 12 on 2018. Which would be a very good year for me. 2019 is going to be the year of Multi engines, Cold War jets, and helicopters.
  7. Pretty awesome, did you use Aviattic decals, or are those Wingnut issue?
  8. john, it’s in this book... http://www.hyperscale.com/2015/reviews/books/f4u1vol2bellbookreviewse_1.htm
  9. John, I seem to remember one of the decal sets out there has instructions on clipping the tips. For the life of me, I can’t remember which one.
  10. I didn't know that myself either, usually read up on a plane before I start work on it. But, i'm going to piss everyone off with my build. I'm building an A6M2 Pearl Harbor attacker out of my A6M3, without making the mods! OMG. Let the beatings begin! Blasphemy....Heresy! Burn the witch!
  11. The first 343 A6M3 had square tips, but the rounder tips were reintroduced into production. Although a few were built at the very end of the production also
  12. I just found out today that trumpeter is going to release another 1/200 WW2 US carrier, and possibly a Russian carrier too, they are bringing out 1/200 Russian aircraft.
  13. Here is my thoughts on KH, I think they have enthusiast running the company, then somewhere in another city, they have CAD engineers creating drawings, then they send those to the injection moulder, who does his best to interpret what the engineers, who are not enthusiasts, have drawn. These simple mistakes, like mirror image decals and alignment pins that have been transposed, so they are off by just enough to be a mismatch, these mistakes are created by people who may be good at what they do, but don’t understand the subject matter they are working on. KH needs to, 1...get people who are enthusiasts, and 2...have their team sit down in a room and completely build a kit from test shots, fix what is wrong, then release a better model. This is what separates Hasegawa and Tamiya from the guys making back alley kits. KH may not be back alley, but they have a long way to go before they are beloved, like the infallible Tamiya or the exceptional Hasegawa.
  14. I am so in love with this kit, I need to get one. I have a great book I bought in the early 90’s called “Bandits”, it’s a full color picture book of USAF and Navy aggressor squadrons. I like because it has pretty pictures, words confuse Grog, Grog get angry. https://www.amazon.com/Bandits-Pictorial-American-Adversarial-Aircraft/dp/0879386231
  15. Beautiful engine work, I’m still sad that mine is closed cowl only after a paint disaster. Some day I hope to build one as nice as you.
  16. Theses 21st Century kits are pretty nice, the level of detail the included for a toy is over the top, there were a few missing items which make you scratch your head, like no gauges, just holes, and no rudder pedals, but they included a fuel tank and oxygen bottles you will never see, and details like drilled barrels for the machine gun, drilled bulkhead and seat holes, and three decal options. Yes, it’s a toy and has folding landing gear and screw together and plug construction, but has very nice shape overall. My next project might me the italian 205 in my closet, and I’m thinking about trying to find a few corsairs too. my thinking, if you use fast dry paint and masks, you could build one of these in a weekend, or possibly a full day. I’m thinking that if I sat down Saturday morning with the 205, since it has even fewer parts than the Zero, I could have it done by dinner!
  17. Finished painting the Aotaki inside the cowl and painted the gear, prop, and cowling semi-gloss black. Engine is 100% assembled and installed, tomorrow, I will close the fuselage and sand the seams. So far I have about 5 hours into it. I hope to lay down paint this week. Decals are on order and won’t be here until next week.
  18. A little bit of progress today, cockpit painted, weathered, assembled and in place. I did have to fabricate some pedals from scratch, as the kit had none I could find, and the instructions didn’t reference one either. So, some leftover PE parts, and some plastic rod and tubes, one set of pedals. I just finished the engine, it’s also painted and installed.
  19. Well, as I planned, I started a quick build, a 21st century A6M3 zero build, but somehow, the Hasegawa A6M5 in closet told me it was lonely. Yes, my stash talks to me. So out came the airbrush and paint, the M3 cockpit is fully painted, just needing weathering and final assembly. The M5 had a coat of paint, but still needs work. 9 models on the bench is getting crowded.
  20. Someday I want a 200 scale Merit carrier, or a deagostini Akagi.
  21. I think I made a decision. In honor of December 7th, last year I built the P-40B, this year I’ll build a Zero, I’m going to make it done before midnight on the 7th. That gives me about 2 weeks.
  22. I agree, to a point. I have had a tendency to build a kit with AM, then one out of the box, then a simple kit, then repeat. Sometimes after a difficult build, I will do something quick and easy. I am trying to decide on a “pallet cleanser” during the P-40 project, I have a few kits in mind, but still plugging away at my flock of warhawks. I now have 5 of the 7 sanded and I’m needing a break for a quick build. Just can’t decide what it is.
  23. Exciting to see, I have not seen anyone finish one of these for a while.
