Agreed Gus. That Tamiya color was recommended in the decal instructions but I figure they'll have to re-think that.
-
After all is said and done Harv it will be satisfactory. Color photos of that period can fade or degenerate, etc. Check this out. Same photo but not cropped.

After digging through my large stash of paint I decided to try this one, Xtracolor RAF Oxford Blue. I LIKE IT! LOL After a couple of coats I should have a nice shiny smooth paint job (if I don't run out of paint as I only have about 1/2 of a tinlet). Fingers crossed. ð

I painted the upper wings with that Tamiya Mica Blue but I DON"T LIKE IT. So now I'm going to look around for a different shade of blue. ðĪŠ

LOL Peter! It's just that I enjoy the work, etc. Also, being retired and single I have all the time I want for building. Keeps me occupied.
-
All primed and ready for painting with Tamiya lacquer Mica Blue. Kind of a metallic dark blue color.
-
It worked out well Peter with just a bit of "adjusting". I wish I could remember who it was I got those from a while back but can't. (Lots of other stuff I can't remember too! LOL) John

Heck yes Carl. Thanks!!! PM on the way.

Progress so far as of today. (I still need 2 Tamiya exhaust stacks, part #J19 for this bird. Anybody?)
-
....for my P-51C racer build. I'm replacing the terrible Trumpeter exhaust shrouds and exhausts but am 2 short of the exhaust stacks. They are Tamiya part #J19, the little short stubs. If someone can help me out with two I'd sure appreciate it! PM me.ðĪŠ John UPDATE: Never mind guys, Carl is sending me some.

I hope so Harv!

This particular P-51 had the dorsal fin which is a little unusual for the B/C birds. I have some resin conversion rear fuselage parts with the dorsal fin but, instead of trying to splice the whole rear end, I decided to remove the required part from one of the pieces and graft it on to the kit rear end. Seems to fit fairly well.

LOL Gaz! The Sherman sits on the shelf staring at me as if to say just that. LOL I'll get back to it before long.
-
I agree Peter. Quite a eye catching color scheme.
-
Staying busy for sure Peter. Too bad this Trumpeter kit isn't of Tamiya quality but it is what it is. I'll get all the needed mods done and proceed with the build. I hope it will be another eye catcher! ð
-
I'm substituting the exhaust shrouds from a Tamiya Mustang as the one's that came in this kit are crappy. Taking a bit of surgery to get a fit! ð
-
Thanks Paul! I'm glad you like the results of my efforts. More to come!
-
I'll stay with it. It's coming along fine.

This is a Aires cockpit set I will use on this build. I'm not sure of the cockpit colors on Thunderbird but I figure gray might be "right".

Dragon Panther A with Zimmerit
JohnB replied to GazzaS's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Looking good Gaz. I've always liked the looks of the Panther. Your build really makes it a good looking tank. Nice work! -
Well maybe not quite that soon. LOL However, I already had a Trumpeter "B" started and will redirect the build which will speed things up.

I placed a order over the weekend and expected to have shipping confirmation today (as is usual with SB). Since I haven't had a confirmation I did some checking and sent SB a email asking about it. Here is their reply. "Your order is in the queue among many others. We are getting to all the order as fast as we can. Like other small businesses all over the country, no one wants to work so we are doing the best we can with what staff that decides they do want to work." I replied with a email to light a fire under those SOB's! Jeeze Louize!!! What's next?! Later: Just received shipping notice from UPS. LOL I guess they did light a fire under someone! LOL ð

Thanks. Another "a little bit different" build! LOL Should look good!
