  1. Making good progress on the build now. It's nice when everything fits.
  2. Some times you just have to step back and do something else for a bit. Hopefully things will go a bit more smoothly now.
  3. I decided to come back to this build for a bit and try to sort out the problems I had earlier. I was able to get it together properly so now I can continue with the build. I plan to work on this and the Revell Spitfire simultaneously.
  4. Thanks Dennis. I'm still trying to decide on which set of markings. I have 2 nice Kagero books with decals I can choose from. There are some good subjects there so I likely will pick one from there.
  5. I didn't want to spend any extra for a Quinta set and settled for what I had. Not all that bad but, for this build, it's okay.
  6. Thanks Jeff. It's coming right along.
  7. I decided to work on this Revell Mk IX for a while since it's been a while since I built a Spitfire. Not a bad kit but not quite up to Tamiya standards. Still, if you want a good 1/32 Spitfire Mk IX for a good price this is the one for you. I plan for it to mostly be OOB except for the Barracuda seat, seat armor, under nose intake, and Eduard seat belts and exhausts. I decided to use the kit instrument panel decal just to see how well it would do and was a bit surprised that it came out looking pretty good. Acceptable for this build anyway. It's about to the stage where I can join the fuselage halves and hope to get that done shortly. I'm undecided on exactly which a/c it will represent but ought to have that decided soon. Stay tuned.
  8. Yes indeed. And what a bummer! Just something we have to deal with.
  9. When I started this model I thought it would be a enjoyable build. Maybe after I get the fuselage halves and innards together it will be more enjoyable. My shaky hands and less than optimum eyesight doesn't help!
  10. I hate to say it guys but this SOB has gotten the best of me. Trying to glue the fuselage halves together with all the innards in place just would not work no matter how much "adjusting" I did. I adjusted so much I broke the SOB (specifically the tail wheel assembly). I'm going to give it a rest for now and will come back to it later.
  11. LOL Then I taped up some of the other parts to see what was what and found everything fit okay. This kit just fits different from what I've been used to with Tamiya kits. Had me "concerned" at first! LOL
  12. When I test fit the fuselage halves with the cockpit in place I was a bit "concerned" with the fit. It looks like some very large gaps and I thought WTF! That can't be right!!!!
  13. They give us a choice whether to use decals for the IP's or raised detail instruments.
  14. National insignia will be decals from my stash. No blue outline on the "bars".
  15. Thanks Peter. I'm not 100% certain there was no red surround but I doubt seriously it had 'em. At any rate, I'm going with just white "bars" and no surround. 🤞
  16. Doing some on-line "research" on this particular a/c I found this photo. The bars on the national insignia don't have the blue edges which means the a/c originally had just the star with blue back ground. The white "bars" apparently were added at a later date with no blue edges. Another possibility is the insignia had red surround which likely wouldn't show up very well in this photo. The kit doesn't supply the correct insignia so I will check my decal stash and see if I have the needed items.
  17. I like to paint as many parts as possible before starting assembly. It helps things to go better, etc.
  18. I agree Peter. It ought to be a good looking model when done.
  19. It certainly is close Carl. Many of the parts look like Tamiya parts reduced in size.
  20. I was undecided on buying it but went on and ordered it and the engine from Scale Hobbyist. Not too stiff a price compared to some other vendors. I now have the interior parts painted and will get to the gear and wheel well parts later today. Salmon Pink for the rear fuselage/tail wheel area, Dull Dark Green for the areas in the cockpit that needed it, and flat black on various odds and ends. I'll paint the wheel wells and gear Tamiya Flat White later today.
  21. I figure that scheme will get a lot of attention since it's so interesting Kevin. This AM I started spraying the two interior colors (Salmon Pink and Dull Dark Green) and plan to spray the landing gear and associated areas Tamiya Flat White this afternoon. When all that is accomplished I can begin assembly. Stay tuned.....
  22. This is my next build. I'm very impressed with the kit(s) (a -2 NF and a -1A are in the box) and I will begin work on the -2 this morning. They have supplied some really good marking schemes and this one caught my eye immediately. Ought to make a very attractive model.
  23. Just something to work on while waiting for the Corsair kit to show up. Tracking says it's out for delivery so it ought to get here some time this afternoon.
