Brummbär! I beg your pardon! 27/Dec/18
GazzaS posted a topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
My newest start is the Dragon 1/35 scale Sturmpanzer IV. This is an older kit with Magic Tracks and white metal Schürzen. Thanks for looking, Gaz -
FINISHED!!! Revell 1/48 B-29 finished in Bare Metal Foil

Brilliant result, Johnny! The Jug is a big beast in itself. If you put a Ki-44 Tojo with it (a regular opponent), it would look even more huge...lol Gaz -
Johnny, Your efforts look great. Makes me envious that mine has passed into the landfill in the sky. I wish there were a newer kit with better surface details. If there is one area where I am a complete failure, it's scribing. I'm getting the hankering to foil again... I have a P-40 and hopefully I'll have a MiG or two under the tree. There is a vac canopy replacement for the kit which includes the large gaskets that surround each window. Interestingly, too, all of the glass panels behind the nose cap are flat. I hate vacform, though. Details always appear too soft. It might be okay for bubble tops like the P-47, but if there are any frames, they just look weak. Gaz

Looks great, John! Nice color modulation. By the pictures, I meant the historical pics. Sorry for not making that clear, dude. Gaz
-
ain't it done yet? When I look at the pics... I really can't decipher the true colors. Like they're really affected by the blue ar0und em' or something. Gaz
-
Your detail painting looks great! But I'm wondering how in the hell anyone can sit in those seats. Gaz

Johnny, That looks great! I didn't put too much effort in the exhaust area on my effort. I didn't worry about the wing angle, either...my brass spars followed the lines of the kit spar-stubs. Gaz

So, Christmas is coming. Which kit do you want to find under the tree?

I'm submitting a kit wish list to the missus. Is anyone head over heels in love with the SWS Fw190's? Gaz -
Don't feel bad, Johnny. I've done it too.

Welcome to the Commonwealth! -
Johnny, I wanted the clean look of the windscreen that is 0n the actual bird. Neither foil nor paint worked, so I went whole hog, so to speak. This is what I was after: Anyway...you're doing great! Gaz

I hear ya. They're tempting me at work with a power-ball syndicate. I think last time it went like six weeks of winning little amounts and ppl re-investing only for it all to go south eventually. But I am tempted. Nobody wants to be the only one to show up to work the day after the drawing...lol -
Johnny, I really like you added surface detail to your B-29. I embarked upon a similar project a few years ago. I built a stand to hold the entire aircraft at chest height. I wasn't happy with how the canopy framing looked foiled, so I embarked on trying to make a real aluminum frame for it using a hammer and homemade dies. It never came to fruition and I gradually lost interest with each failure. Here is a link to it. https://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=244807&ord=&page=9 I used sponges and nylon hose to hold the model to the stand. It made working on the big beast much easier. Gaz

I won 2nd place in the Michigan State lottery in 1998. Second place paid $2500. Then there is 40% tax to pay. Leaving $1200. My brother, Father, and I have all got second place once. but never first. A couple years ago I was talking to a French expat I worked with. His missus worked in the same place, too. He's retired now... but he told me that for the last 40 years, he and his wife had never missed entering for each draw. That's twice a week for 40 years. They had never won more than 50$ and only on a few occasions. I haven't entered the lottery since. Gaz -
You guys and your fast cars. Can it carry an 8' sheet? A complete sofa suite in one load? I drive a beat up 98' Toyota Hilux 3.0Litre diesel with a tray. I've driven for years, most of it professionally. I just don't see any romance of the road. I've always been more about the destination. The first car I really (I mean really) wanted to buy: A VW Karmann Ghia. Guess what... my 6'3" frame didn't fit... and that was before I got a gut. My life situation kept me in Firebirds for a while, but each one was A BAD-LUCK-CAR. The better they looked, the more trouble. Had a Ford Maverick... great little car... but ugly as sin. Maybe I've gotten old and cranky. I just wanna get where I'm going and be done with it. I have models to build. My wife just bought a Honda CBA 500 RA. She's still in the process of getting her motor Cycle license. Don't want a motor cycle, either. She'll ride with her brother. I envy you... but I just don't see the point. Gaz

Thanks, Martin. I hate rescribing, I really do. It's not the process, or the time. It's the fact that I can't maintain a straight line worth a damn. I can even use Dymo tape...my hand will still find a way move away from the tape. Quite frustrating. Gaz

So, let me see if I'm getting the process right: 1. Spray automotive primer to partially fill rivet hole. 2. Use beading tool to make new rivet. 3. Sand until only the circle you want to show remains? Gaz

Phil, Thank you very ,much! I've looked at a lot of their tank kits, and I don't understand the flash on my kit, neither. It wasn't huge flash, just that there were minor bits spread throughout the kit. Their armor kits are a few years newer, though. Maybe they tightened up how they do things. Gaz
-
Thanks for that, Martin. That clear plastic blows.
-
On a side note, there is some minor tin-canning needed around the rivets, too.

By Automotive primer, are you saying paint in an aerosol can?

Hi everyone, After trying a recommended filler for unwanted or large rivets (Mr. Dissolved Putty), I've decided it just doesn't work well enough. I've ended up with a model for the parts bin. Anyway... I have another Trumpy kit that has the same problem. Deep, wide rivets even in places where I'll need positive rivets. CA seems to be the best filler. But will the areas filled with CA react well to the beading tool, or will it just chip off? Thanks for your thoughts! Gaz

This is interesting, and I'd never heard of it before. Most of my paint is acrylic artist tube paint. I thin it almost entirely with Future. It makes for a strong paint that self-levels nicely. But I never considered using it on my small selection of Tamiya paints. Gaz
