Dragon Panther A with Zimmerit

Today I crossed a new Frontier... No... Not listening to the famous Abbey Road album for the first time... I did that years ago. Today I painted the Zeltbahn pattern for the first time. Now, I knew I had zero-chance of painting the rain stripes in scale. So, I used a wash to simulate the effect. Before that I sprayed all of the straps and belts Tamiya Brown. The Machine-Gunner is the only one with black boots. The other soldaten have the low brown boots with gaiters. I wasn't really able to mimic the splinter pattern very well. I failed at painting any sharp corners in scale. I assumed that all of the services used the same gear. I mean why make a different bread bag for every service, right? But no! I was wrong. The Luftwaffe field troops had a Luftwaffe blue bread bag and sometimes even a blue covered canteen! But I'm still going to try to offer some variation in color and tone. Yesterday I had the sneaking suspicion that Dragon... in an economical mood used the same faces twice. Here they are partially painted. You'll notice by the letter that the top set are not the same as the bottom set.... I mean, they are the same, though they are four separate pieces of plastic. Rock on!- 179 replies

Hola Senors y Senoras A few truly crappy pics to show you about my entire effort for the day. These figures look somewhat wooden in their positioning. I think the guy with the upside down rifle is the only one who looks somewhat relaxed. First... four Luftwaffe Field unit dudes... heavily dressed. Today's effort was mainly the slings for Binoculars, MP 40, and Kar 98k Just a little gold color to show the work. Lead foil might have been easier... But this brass is what I've got. I saw this dude on u-tube doing figures the other day. He would attach the heads to screw heads with super glue and leave them there for painting. So, thought I'd give it a go. The helmets are set on blobs of blutack. ... the universal adhesive. Here's a question for you: Have you ever attached a part with blutack and left it that way? I have on quite a few occasions. Back in the day when kit propellers would spin, you had a long pin to keep the propeller in place. But lately all you get is a stub. So often I use blutack to hold the propeller and spinner in place. I reckon that makes the prop less less likely to break. Anyway... until next time! -

Thank you! Patina. That's a word I've never attached to a model before. -

Thank you, Phil. It's just artist oils thinned with Abteilung 502 odorless thinner. I saw the zimmerit filter technique on u-tube and what I had been missing on previous attempts was that it was a 2 step process. On the first step you spread clear thinner over the area. Then, before it dries you run your filter over the same area which causes a nice, even spread. -

Thank you, Rob! One of my goals in this build is to make a more ambiguous and faded camouflage scheme. It's still early days with lots to do. -

Welcome back, friends. Those of you who have read and taken part in my thread about the horror of work-related dreams know that I haven't been modelling in over a week. Today I was back at it with a filter to highlight the Zimmerit pattern and a pinwash to highlight mechanical details. The distance photos.... the ones that show the entire vehicle .... appear very yellow. The close up photos show the Panther in colors much like I see with my eyes in regular lighting. The macro photos showed a couple places where I had failed to remove the excess paint... on the headlight and muzzle brake. Happy modelling! -

Excellent Finish, John! -
Well... I did something stoopid with this one. I closed it up, then realized I forgot to put the sight in the sight window/aperture. Kinda killed it for me. I'll take a couple snaps: I was always rather proud of my chipped, home-made zimmerit job. You can see the large dark space where the sight should have been. Also... I left the drive sprockets to spin freely. However, the weight of the Friuls pulls them downwards so they remind me of metallic versions of cartoon feet. So, now it is more or less just holding the Friuls that came off my first Tiger I build until I begin my next Tiger I build.

Excluding my work dreams, my worst dreams are always about not being in control. I'll give some instances: I'm driving in a vehicle, but I'm asleep. My brain knows I need to open my eyes, but I just can't. I'm on an icy road and my car is spinning out of control. I've just driven over an embankment at high speed and am plunging into the forest. ... I used to be a truck driver in Michigan.... I had this one the other night: Cities in Australia are being bombed. Not sure by who. Sydney is bombed, but I am unconcerned as I'm near Brisbane. Suddenly bombs are falling in Brisbane, but I'm unconcerned as they are on the other side of town. Then a stick of bombs crashed into the street outside our high-rise apartment (We actually live in a single story house) instead of fire and smoke and the usual goodies, each bomb forces a small smoke ring into the air (weird, huh?) and then our apartment building begins to lean and then plummet toward the street below. Before I wake up, I am wondering if I can ride it out without the collapsing building killing me.

I love your interior work, Kai! The panels and pilots look brilliant! -
Welcome to the forum, Kriss. I look forward to seeing your progress.

Thank you very much for the kind words. It is the same kit as yours with a lot of AM. I spent much more than the kit was worth on both Brass and Resin. Your kit looks great, and your video was excellent. I don't think yours looks boring. I believe a base and figure make a huge difference that can't be beat because it touches the brain at a deep level. Just my theory. If you'd like to see what this Revell kit put me through, and what I did to make it different, the build thread is here: I have the Revell G-10 kit as well. Wishing I'd never bought it... Hopefully I can make it look decent. By the way, welcome to the forums! I hope to see you around regularly.

I honestly don't think about work once I leave. I get home as quick as possible so I can be on my time. My job isn't technical. I'm not a lawyer, or involved in any kind of white collar stuff. There is nothing to think about. I get heart palpitations all of the time. Sometimes I sweat profusely in a cool room with the A/C on... especially if I have a drink. It's not uncommon for the palpitations to wake me at night and keep me awake for an hour. I've had all of the tests. The Doc says I'm good. But if it feels like there is an elephant standing on my chest, get to the ER. Back when I was smoking and having 3-6 coffees a day I would wake up in the middle of the night dripping with sweat, and the bedclothes soaked. I would get a beach towel and envelope myself so that I wouldn't lie directly on the cold sweat. Thank you for the advice, John. I'll see what Oztralia has to offer in the form of sleep aids. I'll see what I can do about getting something here. It's amazing how many things that require a prescription in OZ

I have a bit of a problem. For the last 6-8 months I find myself dreaming about work. Every night, sometimes 3-4 times a night. Sometimes I'm in dream and realize it's a dream and make myself wake up so that I can stop dreaming about work. Consequently my sleep is very interrupted, and seemingly ineffective. At then end of my work day, I'm too tired for anything but a perusal of this forum and farcebook. My wife says I have been irritable. So, I started devoting some time to thinking about what is going wrong in my head. One possible self-diagnosis I came up with is that there is too much work in my head and too little of something else. One thing that has been missing is competition. I've always loved competition even though I admit I am a terrible loser. My wife has an XBOX one. I have looked at the games on it before and tried a few. One seemed very interesting but I lost interest when we both realised we couldn't get out an area and there were no helpful hints. My wife is more of a problem solver. I have enough problems to solve at work and perhaps on my bench. I was looking more into an fps situation. So, I bought Verdun yesterday. Basically you run from trench to trench trying to kill the enemy with weapons of the time. I died a lot, but I had some fun. And I didn't remember dreaming about work. So, this self-induced therapy will continue. I played a bit today after reducing the ability of the AI Bots. I've also been looking into strategy games. I've always liked them as long as they fit into my main periods of interest. But I haven't found anything definite, yet. I also binge-watched some The Curse of Oak Island. Had a couple naps too. Usually I avoid naps. Hate to waste the daylight. Hopefully it works. Back to work tomorrow.

Nice work so far, John. I think you need to jump back on that Sherman to slow yourself down a bit. The rest of us can't keep up.

Thank you, my friend! Thank you, John. Thank you, Carl. Poor Kaiser... he has to wake up at 3am when I let him out before I go to work. He's not ready for walking, yet. Still needs two more vaccinations, Thank you, Kai. I'm curious, too. Thank you, Peter.
