  1. Thanks Maru! All I have to say is….”But it’s a dying hobby!”
  2. biggtim hooked me up with some resin goodies.
  3. Better? I do have some rework areas now. One was very bad prep on my part. Deep sanding gouges from squaring up the vertical stabilizer on one side. Ugly!! After lightly sanding And the infamous primer lifting off the resin. Two steps forward, one backwards.
  4. Yep. Story of my life. Go to needing one certain color and OOS at all of my usual online sources. Check the 2 Gundam stores and one of them sometimes has it. I think that’s why I have so much paint. Not paying shipping for 1 bottle. Might as well get a half dozen colors. One reason I shop Sprue Bros mostly is their email notifications when something comes back in stock. I keep a “grocery list” on my phone for when those OOS items show up. Now aside from the hobby, I order car parts online. One of my go-to vendors is Rock Auto. Gotta be careful with them too. They will show everything in stock, but it’s from different warehouses. Yep, you get to pay separate shipping for items split between warehouses. It can add up fast. As far as aftermarket, I am now trying to buy for kits I have because here today, gone tomorrow. Cutting Edge, DMold, Fisher, Rhino, Zacto models, G Factor- just to name a few greats gone now. Eduard makes a production run and never again. Buy now or cry later!
  5. Tim, you can later swap it for another subject you need to make parts for. That’s how I got my Kinetic F-86 from Harold. He needed a Hasegawa kit and we traded.
  6. Hubert, I hate to say it, but I did find a glaring mistake though. I found a pic of this plane online where it looked like it was being decommissioned. It had silver landing gear. Yea, I’m not attempting to repaint the legs and wheels. I’ll correct that area behind the cockpit. Thanks!
  7. Few more details painted today.
  8. This looks like as much fun as getting to build a 1/1 replica! I’m going to have to live vicariously through you on this one Rob. Way out of my budget for kits. I love the rocker covers! Even has the two holes stamped for the wire loom mounts. I had those same covers on my ‘65 Fairlane and my ‘66 GT Fastback when I got it. Hmmmm…if I was to sell that Thunderbird kit and maybe a few others……🤪
  9. Kevin, I’ve got a 1990 F-250 with the 351W and auto. Had to get the trans rebuild Oct. of ‘22. I picked up when it had only 55,000 miles. Got right at 58,000 now. Sorry to hear you had to let go of the Garand. It would be a cold day you know where before I sold mine.
  10. I was telling my wife what an incredible deal this was. She threatened to drag my boxes of kits out of the garage and light them on fire if I bought it. I LOL’d at her and told her I’d have to just buy everything again, and besides, I already have that kit.
  11. As I was sitting at my bench, the wife, daughter and grands were coming in and out of the sliding door right behind me. They were down on the dock playing in the lake. Well, not the wife, she’s not even one week post surgery for her reconstruction from the double mastectomy. She was just torturing herself in the heat. But they would all come through the door talking about how hot it is outside and down on the lake. LOL! It’s 72 in my man cave. And the wife wonders why I don’t want to go “spend fun family time” with them outside. She complains we haven’t gone out in the boat in weeks. Yea, because it’s 100 degrees on the boat. It doesn’t have AC because it’s a wide open tritoon. If I’m going to be out in the heat, I’m going to be floating in the lake, not on top of it.
  12. Now that’s a level of detail and attention that would have me tossing mine in the can next to Carl’s B-25’s. If anyone can do this, it’s you Hubert!
  13. Low pressure might be my issue. I’ll experiment with it.
  14. Iwata hp-cs Lately when I start airbrushing, with the first push on the trigger to get the air flowing, I’m getting paint splatter coming out. I’m having to point away from my work before pressing the trigger. I replaced the needle and brass insert/tip last year. Seems this is a new issue that came up in the last few weeks. Anyone have any ideas? Edit: It’s not every time.
  15. Smart man Peter! I knew better, but trying to get things done. Stupid me, this is building season.
  16. My son is in the Norfolk area for Captains school with the Army. He had to wear full dress blues last week in the heat. Off to the dry cleaners after that one. And our daughter and SIL are in Lexington VA. They’re closing on a house Tuesday and have to move in this heat. Yuk! I did that 28 years ago. Moved on the hottest day of the year.
  17. I just posted this in my Cutlass build thread. Thought I’d repost here. BE CAREFUL OUTSIDE FOLKS! It’s hot outside! I actually got some bench time today since it was just too damned hot outside for yard work. Although I tried…I wasthisclose to getting hit with heat stroke. It was like 98 degrees (36.6C) with high humidity. I was working in the shade raking up rocks from the irrigation install. All of a sudden I was thinking it didn’t feel all that hot out, and was actually kind of cool feeling there for a second. That was my “Oh shit” moment from my managers training on recognizing signs of heat stroke. I got my behind inside and sat in front of a running fan with a bottle of cold water. Then it hit me how bad it was. I should have known better because I discussed this with my MD years back when he changed my BP meds. Almost passed out laying sod one summer day. He told me my meds and age made me a little more susceptible to the heat and I need to be a little more careful than your average bear. I’m just trying to hurry this up because now the yard is getting plenty of water and will need mowing sooner than later. I probably need to just get out there at day break and do what I can do for the first few hours of daylight.
  18. Hubert, I’m going by Paul’s research on his instructions where the VX4 gray and white scheme has the green canopy frame. I’ve read about others having a different color. 19. No need to keep it dripping. It’s got a winterizing drain plug! We get about a week or two of dangerous temps here. Preventing a freeze up was a big concern.
  20. Irrigation! Been wanting to get a system installed ever since we moved here just over 3 years ago. I finally found someone that didn’t quote me a ridiculous price and was willing to actually show up! Had one crack smoker quote me $14,500 and went on and on about the $5000 pump I needed. He looked like of those cartoon characters with the dollar signs rolling in his eyes when he showed up and saw the house and view. Do these people think we got here by being stupid with our money?? Seriously! Got this one done for $8000 and that includes a pump that gets water all the way to the street. What I didn’t expect or think about was my responsibility of “clean up” after the job. This ground is slam full of rocks and roots. The crew filled in the trenches they dug, but the rocks and roots on top are mine to take care of. And in this heat and humidity, it’s a little at a time! Wife had her last reconstruction surgery on Wednesday, so she can’t drive a garden rake for 3-4 weeks. But she can drive herself to the nail salon and restaurant for lunch with our daughter. 🤣 Heres a few pics. Yea, I had to unbolt the ramp I built into the barn. I made this thing to go on. Not come off! And the pump system to draw water out of the lake. I’m going to break out the Krylon camo colors and make the pipes a little less obvious. This is a really nice way to do it. At my last home I was using city water and my summer water bills were $225-$350. Of course water out here is much cheaper from the county than my last home. But the filtered and chlorinated water just barely kept the grass green. This lake water is making it grow like crazy and it’s only been installed 4 days. Here’s a big plus I had done. The contractor ran county water from my line out by the street and put in two spigots for me. One at the barn in the front yard and one at the start of the dock. I’ll use these for pressure washing the driveway and dock. I’m also planning on running some PEX inside gray conduit PVC to hide a water run down to the dock for boat and dock washing. Apparently they tell people to remove them if they want permits for something, so I’ll just hide it. it’s all designed to be easily winterized as well.
  21. My life with the laundry hamper. I swear I can empty it all and by bedtime it’s full again. And it’s just two of us.
  22. This morning on a non-modeling related website a discussion of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea came up. I posted up pics of the 34” Nautilus I built many years back. At one time it was my grail kit that just wasn’t available anywhere. A few minutes later, I got a PM throughs the website of another forum member wanting to buy it! Now granted, this guy probably has no idea what the kit costs, and I didn’t even throw a number at him because I’m not ready to let it go. But it gave me a good feeling someone wants to buy something I built. Obligatory pic of Nautilus
