Thanks for posting this. You just took me down a rabbit hole of memory lane. I saw your build and had to Google the one and only semi truck/trailer I built as a kid. I think I might have been 10-12 yo. I bought the old SONOCO trailer and truck combo kit. I see that Round 2 has reintroduced the tanker trailer once again. So tempted….but I know better.

Thanks Hubert. But no need now with the Reskit stuff on the way.

Okay, I just threw in the towel on these Sparrows that came with the kit and ordered the Reskit set. As I was repainting the rear fins yellow, I just was not happy with how warped some of the fins were. One or two I might be able to hide by placing on the inside, but more and more kept popping up. This morning I dropped them all in a pot of boiling water and they flattened out. But as the day went on, the warps were coming back. I’m just going to proceed with the build as I can and when I’m done, I’m done. It’s just too damned close now to throw all the hard work I did away with some ganked up looking missile fins. It’s one thing to skip a few details being added like Hubert is doing. But to intentionally used warped up parts that I can replace for $20 is pants on head retarded. Especially when I’ve already invested around $350 in the kit.

Just got an SOS from my daughter. Kids are sick and they need my help watching them tomorrow from noon until 4. Yea, looks like I’m gonna get sick now too. 🙁 And I noticed those rear fins are actually yellow. Back down to the paint booth….
-
BTW, I’m hoping I can have this wrapped up by the weekend before I leave town again. If not it’s going to become an unfinished project in the display case. I’m so ready to move on to something else. Zero patience left.

You’re killin’ me Hubert! I almost ordered the Reskit set but decided to proceed with these.

I think I’m going to try out Flight-Metal instead of BMF. RC guys use it. It’s .0018 thick. Just a hair thicker than heavy duty kitchen foil. If I could get the micro sol adhesive to work I’d be tempted to try that.
-
Ugh…. Snails pace here. Just half the fins. I feel like Jimmy Buffet. Fins to the right, fins to the left.
-
Cool! Thanks for the info!! Now I gotta get my BMF technique on!

Hubert, one of the things I was reading, and since you’re a great wealth of knowledge and can help me on this, was the F-105 Thunderbird. I was thinking it was natural aluminum finish, but read somewhere it was painted silver? I have the kit and decals along with the B nose to do this one - one day. If it was natural metal, I’d like to replicate that.
-
Yes, funny you ask this because I was going over some future builds in my head last night and one of the things I read in the past was early jets that everyone assumed was bare metal were actually painted silver. F-105, F-100, F-86, etc.

Always wanted one of these kits. Maybe one day. Going to follow this one!

Project Bullseye! Rumored to have been seen by a few, but no photographic evidence. I picked up this kit many years ago on the cheap. Came in a smaller cardboard shipping box since the kit box was so big. I think I have the hard to find Caracal decals set for it too.

Well I couldn’t help myself again. One of the popular online gun shops were selling police trade in gen 2 Glock 17’s for $200. The catch was chipping at the Magwell opening from hitting seat belts and desks. Of course add in sales tax, shipping and transfer fee at my local FFL along with an aftermarket magwell it’s now a $300 Glock 17. How I got it After the eBay magwell.

Nice haul Carl. And all I got today was a Quinta cockpit for my next build.

Chris, I kind of kept the wreck of the Nautilus going in a secret until the reveal thread. But there’s two products I used for this. The iron oxide paint and an activator. The paint will naturally rust over time if left alone, but I’m impatient. Available on Amazon. I will warn you, it stinks pretty bad. Like someone opened the septic tank stinks.

Now that the day has officially come, Happy Birthday young man!!

Just finished sweating bullets by taping off and painting the wing tips. No paint lift!! Success!! And of course I had to clean up that gray to red line as well. This is a milestone of progress at this point. Not it’s just fiddly bits like gear doors and LEX’s getting painted and glued on. Might start some decals tomorrow too!

I’d love to pick up the Trumpeter Missouri at a deal. Of course my Arizona is just collecting dust in the stash.

Kia- change the oil every 3500 miles no matter what the oil jockeys or owners manual suggests. I know a top notch Kia mechanic on another forum that is constantly telling us stories of motors blowing up because “the oil container said it’s good for 10,000 miles….” Maybe a Honda, but not a Kia. I think a car company would own the market if they came out with a really nice car without all that lane keeping crap, self braking advanced cruise control, warning bells and lights flashing because an on coming car had a sun reflection hit your sensors…. Our Honda Pilot is the worst. And don’t get me started on throttle response lag. I swear I sometimes stomp the pedal and hear elevator music playing. Okay, enough of my boomer rant about cars made in the good old days. Peter, looks great and you’ll enjoy it.

Kai, love your syfi builds! Your ARK II brings back a lot of memories. I’m a syfi nut myself. Check out my Seaview build in the group wet build section. I’m kind of doing the same-re-living my childhood one kit at a time! Well, until that adulting thing gets in the way. Wife keeps handing me projects, along with the house.
