  1. Smart man Peter! I knew better, but trying to get things done. Stupid me, this is building season.
  2. My son is in the Norfolk area for Captains school with the Army. He had to wear full dress blues last week in the heat. Off to the dry cleaners after that one. And our daughter and SIL are in Lexington VA. They’re closing on a house Tuesday and have to move in this heat. Yuk! I did that 28 years ago. Moved on the hottest day of the year.
  3. I just posted this in my Cutlass build thread. Thought I’d repost here. BE CAREFUL OUTSIDE FOLKS! It’s hot outside! I actually got some bench time today since it was just too damned hot outside for yard work. Although I tried…I wasthisclose to getting hit with heat stroke. It was like 98 degrees (36.6C) with high humidity. I was working in the shade raking up rocks from the irrigation install. All of a sudden I was thinking it didn’t feel all that hot out, and was actually kind of cool feeling there for a second. That was my “Oh shit” moment from my managers training on recognizing signs of heat stroke. I got my behind inside and sat in front of a running fan with a bottle of cold water. Then it hit me how bad it was. I should have known better because I discussed this with my MD years back when he changed my BP meds. Almost passed out laying sod one summer day. He told me my meds and age made me a little more susceptible to the heat and I need to be a little more careful than your average bear. I’m just trying to hurry this up because now the yard is getting plenty of water and will need mowing sooner than later. I probably need to just get out there at day break and do what I can do for the first few hours of daylight.
  4. Hubert, I’m going by Paul’s research on his instructions where the VX4 gray and white scheme has the green canopy frame. I’ve read about others having a different color. 5. No need to keep it dripping. It’s got a winterizing drain plug! We get about a week or two of dangerous temps here. Preventing a freeze up was a big concern.
  6. Irrigation! Been wanting to get a system installed ever since we moved here just over 3 years ago. I finally found someone that didn’t quote me a ridiculous price and was willing to actually show up! Had one crack smoker quote me $14,500 and went on and on about the $5000 pump I needed. He looked like of those cartoon characters with the dollar signs rolling in his eyes when he showed up and saw the house and view. Do these people think we got here by being stupid with our money?? Seriously! Got this one done for $8000 and that includes a pump that gets water all the way to the street. What I didn’t expect or think about was my responsibility of “clean up” after the job. This ground is slam full of rocks and roots. The crew filled in the trenches they dug, but the rocks and roots on top are mine to take care of. And in this heat and humidity, it’s a little at a time! Wife had her last reconstruction surgery on Wednesday, so she can’t drive a garden rake for 3-4 weeks. But she can drive herself to the nail salon and restaurant for lunch with our daughter. 🤣 Heres a few pics. Yea, I had to unbolt the ramp I built into the barn. I made this thing to go on. Not come off! And the pump system to draw water out of the lake. I’m going to break out the Krylon camo colors and make the pipes a little less obvious. This is a really nice way to do it. At my last home I was using city water and my summer water bills were $225-$350. Of course water out here is much cheaper from the county than my last home. But the filtered and chlorinated water just barely kept the grass green. This lake water is making it grow like crazy and it’s only been installed 4 days. Here’s a big plus I had done. The contractor ran county water from my line out by the street and put in two spigots for me. One at the barn in the front yard and one at the start of the dock. I’ll use these for pressure washing the driveway and dock. I’m also planning on running some PEX inside gray conduit PVC to hide a water run down to the dock for boat and dock washing. Apparently they tell people to remove them if they want permits for something, so I’ll just hide it. it’s all designed to be easily winterized as well.
  7. My life with the laundry hamper. I swear I can empty it all and by bedtime it’s full again. And it’s just two of us.
  8. This morning on a non-modeling related website a discussion of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea came up. I posted up pics of the 34” Nautilus I built many years back. At one time it was my grail kit that just wasn’t available anywhere. A few minutes later, I got a PM throughs the website of another forum member wanting to buy it! Now granted, this guy probably has no idea what the kit costs, and I didn’t even throw a number at him because I’m not ready to let it go. But it gave me a good feeling someone wants to buy something I built. Obligatory pic of Nautilus
  9. No pics, but just got a resupply in from Sprue Bros. I ordered the tweezers that denders recommended in my Cutlass thread, some paint and primer, Quinta interior for the SUFA kit and a couple of F-86 wheel sets from reskit. I just couldn’t pass up their 20% off everything sale last weekend.
  10. They need to bring them back to Columbia, SC. I actually left work early and went to those since my pre-retirement job was a few blocks away. I’m sure I’ll make them one day again. But it’s got to be in a town with slot machines to keep my wife happy.
  11. My T-6 build had a lot of hidden detail that went in the trash bin. Can’t see it? Not building it. All it’s good for is cool internet pics and the modeler that loves getting into those details.
  12. I pick and choose carefully with the 3D cockpit stuff. Big open canopy? Sure. Dash hidden way up under the top of the fuselage? I skip it. Just ordered a set for my SUFA kit because big and open. Sadly, once they go in the display case, you never can see down in there anyway.
  13. Me, you, rubber hose out back! As the cop said in Christmas Vacation….”Mister, if I had a rubber hose….”
  14. Yea, because there you can pick it up for the show special price of $175!
  15. Hubert, your skills and knowledge of subjects have always impressed me. This one is no different! And what a perfect location to display it.
  16. I found this to be an incredible deal. I’ve got the first boxing of it, so I’m good. I’m doubtful Amazon.CA will have it this cheap though https://www.amazon.com/Hong-Kong-Models-Mitchell-Gunship/dp/B08XMS4FY5/ref=pd_hp_mw_btf_ci_mcx_mr_hp_btf_m?pd_rd_w=0eccb&content-id=amzn1.sym.e344b029-95e5-407c-80e9-132f4213a7a1%3Aamzn1.symc.78b63dc2-7c0c-4c3e-8dd5-8e838bc5f8ba&pf_rd_p=e344b029-95e5-407c-80e9-132f4213a7a1&pf_rd_r=YWJ161TPV536XHBRRDX2&pd_rd_wg=xy6GN&pd_rd_r=9bcd9ce9-6e65-4a51-bcad-2171c8fda05a&pd_rd_i=B08XMS4FY5
  17. Looks like you got a raspberry for your efforts!
  18. Looks great Peter! I understand the waiting on Quinta thing. I emailed them two years ago about the KH T-28. Said they were going to make them after the harvest. In the meantime I grabbed a set of Eduard interiors in case Quinta never comes through. The B/D is out of production and was tough to find one in stock. Glad to see you back on a 1/32 kit!
  19. Half century? You’re still a kid! Happy birthday young man!
  20. Speaking of Golden Hawks….. Just showed up in my mailbox.
  21. I’ve actually come up with another wild idea I’m going to try later. I’ll follow up when I do.
  22. Lookie what I found online. Another “meant to be” since SWMBO is at work.
  23. Trust me, I’ve often thought if that trick would work. Her being a medical pro though has her biased against anything with two wheels. Donor cycles she calls them. I did mention us buying a couple of CT 125’s to go on rides. Her response was “but where?” Very true. SC doesn’t offer much in off road bike or ATV riding like some states do. Edit: We do have a nearby off-roading park, but it’s one of those “extreme off-roading” places you go to get covered in mud and thrill seek. Not old people trail riding My close friends doc tells him at 60 years of age you’re supposed to sell your motorcycles and ladders. You don’t need to be on either at that age.
  24. If they started importing that 125 DAX to the states, I would surly be divorced. I grew up riding a 50 Monkey and a Trail 70. Resistance would be futile.
  25. Thanks Rob. It’s really being tested on this one. But I’m finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it’s not a freight train. Edit to add: I will say that I am at a stopping point for some time to be determined now. I have a huge crowd showing up starting tomorrow evening that will be here until Monday the 8th. And I’m sitting here with my back out of whack looking at a badly over grown lawn that needs mowing (rider thankfully!) and a ton of grocery shopping needing to be done. And the wife is working up until tomorrow evening. Monday I’m wrapped up,with a vet visit for the new pup, got lawn irrigation going in Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday morning the wife goes in for final reconstruction surgery from her breast cancer. I’m probably looking at a couple weeks before I can get back to the bench.
