Couldn’t help myself after seeing one done over on LSP. I’ve had the Wolfpack conversion and the EJ kit in my stash for years now planning on the blue Panthers scheme. But when I saw this, kind of made me glad I didn’t build it yet.

Yea, anything made after 1986 cannot be owned by regular folks like me. Gotta pay to have a special FFL and prove you need it for business or military or LE if you want post ‘86. So pre ‘86 is like ocean front property. Only so much made and prices climb constantly.

I’m honestly looking forward to the Trumpeter F-35B this summer (fall probably). Might have to send the wife away a few days to see her girl friends so I can get it in the stash.

Patience grasshopper! white primer base and lots of thin coats of yellow allowing plenty of flash time between coats. It will look like crap until it doesn’t. This one is Mr. Color lacquer. I’m remembering about 8 or 9 coats on this one.

Ohh, that’s a dangerous game for me. Here it comes boys. A long tall tale about myself….. You see, I come from a family of hoarders. When Mom passed my wife was my biggest asset to take the Bull by the horns and clear out the three storage units of her “treasures”. Keep in mind that she was also there to move said garbage from her previous home to the storage units while she attended assisted living. Over the years I too have “collected” things I like. I have a great 1/18 Diecast car collection set up in display cases. Unfortunately, I have 4 or 5 moving boxes still packed with some more in need of display cases. (I’m working on an idea right now) Tools. Oh man, I have a tool collection like none other. Auto mechanics tools, auto body tools, wood working tools that take up a lot of real estate, yard tools….see where this is going? Now in my defense, I have used and will continue to use the majority of these tools until I can no longer physically do it. When we moved I gave my son a LOT of my automotive stuff. Bench grinder, engine hoist and stand, AC system tools, strut spring compressor, etc….and my biggest sacrifice other than my larger garage was my 60 gallon air compressor. Most were part of my past life as an autobody repairman. A lot was purchased during the restoration of my ‘66 Mustang GT Fastback. And then there are models. You see, the wife understands that when I’m pushing up daisies, the boys will be ready to start fighting over all the tools, maybe some of the Diecast collection, the gun collection, the Mustang has already been claimed by my son that’s an aspiring car builder. But the models. My kids don’t give a hoot about models. And as my wife puts it, “You have over 300 models stashed in the basement and garage. I better not see another damned model show up at this house! You’ll have to live to be 300 years old to build what you have now!” She’s right. I hoard kits. In the past if I saw a kit I liked, I’d order it and not think twice about it. That’s how I wound up with 12 Phantom kits and 15 F-16 kits, 3 C-5 kits, etc… She doesn’t want to deal with them one day. I’ve actually written down the contact info of places like Squadron and Hobby Nut that appear to buy out collections since they are selling pre-owned kits and decals. I told her to call one of them up and just come pick up everything in a U Haul and send her a check for what they think it’s worth to them. Don’t care about the money, I just don’t want her hauling them to the county dumpsters at the end of our road. So to keep the peace, I have to strategically sneak new kits into my life. I have to study her work schedule very carefully and time my purchases so they’ll be delivered while she’s at work. I also do some deep soul searching and ask myself “Are you really going to build this or just look at it then toss it in the garage with the other kits?” (In all honesty, I can drop several hundred on paint, supplies, aftermarket, decals, etc and she won’t bat an eye. Just no more kits) So here’s the moral of the story. If I’ve ever pissed any of y’all off and you want to get even with me, just start sending me new models that have come out. She would never believe people would just be randomly mailing me models. Yea, I’d be in some deep poo-poo if y’all did that to me. So what ever you do, don’t do that. Especially the new Devastator and Val.

Oil based. That wood was soooo dry. According to the website 2 gallons should have been more than enough. I went through 4 gallons and still need one more to finish the steps. House was built in 2007 or 2008. Looks like nothing was ever done to it.

Good luck man! I suffer from severe stenosis and arthritis as well. Not really bad shooting pains like I had back in 1999 when I had surgery, but I will get strange sensations in my lower legs, weakness in my legs depending on weather. One day I’m barely able to walk up the stairs and the next is like nothing is wrong. Surgeon told me my only option was a lower fusion and recommended I avoid that as long as I can. Of course I’m also dealing with flat feet and bad knees. Going to a knee guy and a podiatrist later this month.

I’ll have to actually talk with him next time I see him. His step dad is the kind that doesn’t pick up on details too much. I think I am wrong on what he’s training to fly right now. Dad told me yesterday it’s a King Air not the Gulfstream. I think what got him the golden ticket is when he went to command and requested a new training partner. His was from the Middle East and was taking unnecessary risks trying to be a cowboy. Apparently Rucker is a NATO training base and not just US Army. But they saw how safety conscious he was.

Exactly. SQUIRREL! I’d have to break my new rule of open a kit, finish the kit without interruption. It seems with every build I get to a certain point and SQUIRREL!! I have to reel myself in and slap myself on the back of the hand. If I was to attempt it soon, I’d have to have quick build distraction kits set aside to jump on for a few days or weeks. Honestly, I need to retire from retirement. It’s wearing me out.

Looks great! One day I’ll be brave enough to pull out my 1/200 kit and get started.

Nice look inside one of these kits. Thanks Ernie. My best friends step son just completed Army flight school for helicopters down at Ft. Rucker. Upon completion of the course, he was reassigned back to school for fixed wing. He pulled the golden ticket! He’ll spend his career flying around dignitaries and will probably never have to wear standard issue camo again. Right now they are in the Gulfstream but the Army is transitioning to the Bombardier real soon. He’s actually getting sent to Canada to start his training, so it sounds like he’s getting one of the first new ones in the fleet.

HKM kits across the board have gone up in price. The big B-17’s are just under the $400 mark

I absolutely love my HP-CS. But….always a but in the crowd, isn’t there? I’d like to have an adjustable trigger stop on the end cap for occasional close up work. Does anyone know if the preset handle I5855 or I1555 will work?

I had a few boogers I had to work out that I didn’t see until it was black. Just took care of those moments ago. After it dries I’ll look things over closer and start the mottling of the surface.
