  1. Good lord, why would you torture yourself like this?
  2. I posted this question on LSP, so I'll do it here, too, as there are some fantastic experts here as well. Was the dyed fabric coverings on WWI planes translucent? I know that doped plain linen certainly let a lot of light through, and painted linen tended to become pretty opaque with successive layers of paint, but what about the dyed fabrics, such as the German lozenge patterns? How much light got through those? I found a couple of pics that demonstrate the question. The first shows a reproduction D.VII where the painted labels on the outside of the fuse and a small amount lof light are visible on the left from inside the cockpit, suggesting at least some translucent properties of this repro fabric in sunlight. The second shows a period fuselage side up against a piece of fabric with very distinct stripes, yet the stripes are not visible through the old fabric at all, suggesting almost no translucency without backlighting, even with things places directly against the linen. The third is another period swatch sandwiched in plexiglas. It also shows none of the background through it, even in a well lit room. I would love to see the other side of this piece to see if the markings are visible. I think these pics only muddy the waters. I still don't see a clear answer.
  3. Right there with many of you, though not as bad as most. I tripped on something Wednesday evening and wrenched the back real bad, next day it nailed me hard, 10/10 for a few hours, couldn't do anything, excruciating. Still dang sore, have to go to the chiro for a massage or two this week to get it sorted. It happens now and again when I don't keep my core strong by working out regularly, and it's all muscular in my case, thank God. No bad discs or anything requiring surgery, just momentary shifts because of weak muscles, pinches a nerve, and a massive charlie-horse that throws the whole system out of whack for days. And on a holiday, too. Yay. Doesn't help that I'm 53, 6 foot 5, and 275 pounds. Damn sorry for your predicament, Scott. I have at least some idea of the discomfort, but I'm grateful to be able to get it sorted without extreme measures so far. And the foam roller Gaz mentioned - my best friend.
  4. Shhh....Ernie IS the local mafioso....
  5. And an albino one, at that, apparently?
  6. What does it say about me that I really want that square-body Chevy pickup he's leaning on?
  7. Mine was flat black (I spray painted it) with a blue sparkle banana seat! I put the banana seat on there because it had more surface area to land on! I had a few mishaps with the regular BMX seat....
  8. Well, after my balls quit hurting, yes.
  9. That would be an A-1 Lucky SOB.
  10. I used to have a neighbor (at my old house many years back) I would have happily done that to. Unfortunately, it likely would not have been a joke. That neighbor is gone now - the price of that lifestyle.
  11. Ya spose one of his buddies did that as a joke? I might....
  12. Please do. Maybe he'll rip a hole in Putin's arse.
  13. I'm in Central WA, near Yakima. Daughter goes to EWU in Cheney, so we spend a lot of time over that way.
  14. Another Washingtonian! I live on the "right" side of the state. 😉 It's dry as popcorn fart over here.
  15. Not to mention disgusting....
  16. A lot of these make me laugh, but I should not have looked at this while at work. I flat lost it and the whole office could hear me giggling!!
  17. To bad you can't suddenly get it spinning. Might make for a pretty funny video!
  18. Slight correction on myself - the civilian ones are not surplus, but they are built by the same company (Oshkosh Defense) for the civilian market. https://oshkoshdefense.com/vehicles/aircraft-rescue-fire-fighting-arff/ An interesting subject, and very cool trucks!!
  19. Ya but those guys are crazy --- oh wait, I'm one of those guys now. Damn.
  20. We use those in the civilian world, too, but they are called ARFF trucks (Airborne Rescue & Fire Fighting). In fact, a lot of civilian ones are surplus military. We don't get to call our stuff "tactical" because no one is shooting at us...usually.😁
  21. My mind is not made up yet.
