I must be crazy, B-24J on the bench.
CrankyCrafstman replied to 1to1scale's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Hey 1to1 I found a similar photo/vid thing it was a virtual walkthrough. You could see very deep cushions, look to be almost a foot thick, but they were sitting in a typical sheet metal seat pan, so maybe maybe not probably will never know since it's hard to find any info on original ww2 aircraft. On another note I did find some aftermarket brass landing gear for this BIG ASS bird. They are brass copys of the internal pieces from the kit, you still have to use the outer parts. I found them on LSP. I ordered a set will let you know what there like when I get them in the mail. Hey 1to1 [DISREGARD THIS POST] After looking at Nige's build on the Lancaster I'm wondering did the B-24's have padded seats or should they be bucket shaped like Nige did on his seats to make room for the parachutes that the pilot and co pilot would have been wearing? The other thing is, if the front turrets guns are done to close together can they be moved outward? I'm going to experiment on mine to see if I can correct them, also did they use flash shields on the B-24's machine guns? Ron G. -
AK also has those colors Ron G

The Curtiss built P-47's were kept in the States and used for trainers, they never saw combat. The build quality on them was very poor. The descripencys in the cockpit colors on P-47's derives from the construction manual stating to mix 1 gallon of black to 1 gallon of zink chromate (which was a transparent yellowy green) giving you a dark almost black green, thus dull dark green. It should have read 1/10 gallon of black to 1 gallon of zink chromate, which would have given you interior green. Dull dark green, bronze green, interior green and curtiss cockpit green are available in Vallejo model air paints. I don't know there numbers but when I'm back in my modeling area I'll find them and post em. Ron G

HB Models B-24 Hints, Tweaks, Tips

Hey 1to1 Remember you have to fix the upper area of the front gear case, by adding the prop pitch regulator. I'm going to try and do a how to fix it build thread on them. How to do the prop pitch regulator, how to replace the push rod tubes with more accurate tubes, how to make a correct ignition pipe and add the plug wires. Ron G -
Hey Mark The interior of all P-47s was dull dark green, some say bronze green. The interior of the rest of the plane was zink chromate. The fire wall was natural aluminum as was the interior of the cowl. Check out my "Checkertail" build and you can see how I did mine it's done with Vallejo model air paints. Ron G

Hey all Just checked the kit props they measure out to 11' 2" so they are 2 1/2" short in radius. Which in 1/32 scale is 0.078125" or 1.9844mm. I'm not going to sweet that for now, if someone comes up with corrected ones I'll swap em out. Ron G -

CrankyCrafstman replied to NigelR32's topic in Modelling Discussion
Hey all I found a place on the net (in England) that has 1/32 code letters and serial numbers for the HK Lancaster. Heres a link 6 shts for £49.50 thats about $63.00 US. https://www.fantasyprintshop.co.uk/shop/euro-decals-ed-32123-avro-lancaster-bomber-codes-pre-order/ Ron G Since I posted this Ray has got back with me and they are now £39.95 or $51.34 US dollars this is (6) 'A' size sheets of Lancaster code letters A to Z these are 1/32 scale 48" x 30" x 6" RAF Bomber code letters in dull red they are BIG so thats why 6 sht's, he also has the 8" serial numbers in dull red, so now you can make any Lanc you want. Hey all The Williams brothers engines came in the mail today. Here are some pictures showing the difference between the kit parts and the kit cowl with the WB engine. The WB's engines are not to scale, that is to say they are the size of the kit engines, which are also not to scale. This is good in that they fit in the cowl perfectly! Well take a look and judge for yourself. First pic is a comparison of the kit and WB. Second two pics are the kit engines. Last two are the kit cowl over the WB's engine. They still need alot of work. I'm going to replace the push rod tubes with 1/32" styrene rod. I'm also going to replace the ignition pipe with a 0.040" styrene rod bent to shape and drilled out for the spark plug leads. Then I have to scratch build the propeller pitch regulator. Then I have to figure out how to fit it all into the cowl and nacelles, no big deal...OH wait a minute I have to do this for times...So is the fun of modeling. Ron G. -
