  1. You talking about the Saumur PzIV I posted a pic of above ? It's an H for sure , just with mesh skirts, which is more a J thing I thought? Which makes me question how accurate/original a lot of the exhibits are . Not a pop at the French Armour folk, but museums sometime get "over enthusiatic" . Panzermuseum at Munster had the Frankentiger for awhile, which is just welded together parts in all honesty. Bovington famously painted the Matilda II wrong . My general point was museums make mistakes os exhibits aren't gospel . Also I'm no real expert on the subject matter here and as Nick Moran points out , you can never say "this didn't happen" because there will always be a contemporary photo showing it did πŸ˜€ A picture of it's rear end - clearly an H looking at that perfectly rounded muffler !
  2. Oddly coincidental Tomasz at LCW has been doing the newish Tamiya PzIV , all acrylics no oils.
  3. Cheers for the pix . My curiosity is now high , as on the Panthers, AFAIK, Ambush Cammo was painted in the Daimler factory not at the unit level, and not for a long time either, also MAN a played with the "disc" mats for a short period , before giving up altogether and supplying them in just primer . Was this factory or the Werkeskompanie in 5PD painting them to match their Panthers. I wish I knew more . Thanks though , I might have and excuse to go buy some more books !
  4. Yay !! Dunno if you noticed . Lustmolch = sexy beast ! & people say Germans lack humour ...not in my experience !
  5. For sure - Pilot training is the biggie given the uniqueness of a Harrier. Not so sure about South Africa . As you may already know Thunder City ( Mike Beachy Head ( now dead) flying Lightnings and Buccs) was closed by the SAFAA because they had been extending the maintenance periods on key safety parts, to the point where 50 year old components that were meant to be replaced we just ignored as no one was making the spares anymore. This all came out after the Lightning crashed and the ejector seat failed to work, leading to the sad death of the pilot . The restored Vulcan that was flying in the UK ceased flying for much the same reason , spare parts and the lack of them . No so sure if the US will be selling anyone all the cheap spares it got when the UK sold it's entire Harrier fleet to them for twenty bucks. πŸ€”
  6. Love it , what a great result from a kit loooong past it's sell by date . Flag idea is genius , almost makes me wish I'd not packed in smoking a few years ago ! Wooden deck is also executed very well . ...as for the crew and the eagles ....awesome ...I really couldn't bring myself to that level of dedication at 1/72. If I may suggest, unless resin is your thang , I'd be tempted to go down the foam, paper and gloss medium route as a less stress way . and ...the linky is here.
  7. @GazzaS Thanks for those pix , I've not seen them before . I guess the PK companies focused more on the big cats in the last years of the war , I've associated ambush with the later Panthers and KT's , I've not noticed it on PZIVs , but maybe will have to look more closely now !
  8. Thats looking good - how's the kit Winnie , is it a Trumpy A or B team effort ? Must admit a fondness for the old Intruder and Prowler. What great names and great looking aircraft !
  9. Ok where were we ? Construct , basic paint . So , painting of some details , selective glossing , decals , (we are going LSSAH for this one) , dry brushed , initial chipping , heavy oil pin / flood washing and then sealed for now with matt varnish . More detail painting to come , and then a bunch of mud as I reckon this is a survivor from 7th Koy KG Peiper at the end of the Bulge in Jan 45. Not sure if the mesh guards made it through all the bombardments, but will need tracks and a crew of two . Here one from 1er Zug got zapped by fighter bombers on the 30th Dec*. Had a thought about a base as well . Cheersly PW * Looking at this pic closely it has a number of interesting things going on . It appears to be a late Ausf H from the front glacis features and the hatch, but no zimmerit applied ....so post Sept 44 , pretty much the end of the run of H . It maybe seems to have ambush pattern cammo , which would also be rarely seen on a Pz IV though the spots could be just fire damage as well though.
  10. Precise build , I like the subtle mottling , & the markings look like masked not decals , nice one .
  11. Looks a nice pad to land , plenty of light and space . Gazza's right though......... that carpet monster gonna eat and eat πŸ˜€ Divorce sucks , been there seen that too buddy . The pain fades after time . I hope it works out ok for you Harv .
  12. Roll it Horatio πŸ˜€ ....I'll have to get back on with the Destroyer in the next few months 😐 .....
  13. Replaced most of the plastic spaced armour ( 1mm ...) with copper foil ..(0.1mm) . Given this was made from 5mm boiler plate my copper is much closer to scale. And done the two colour cammo plus a quick filter coat. Back Sunday maybe ...see much more fun than a teeeny ship
  14. Coming together nicely , I'm enjoying this Border Model Primed in primer filler , black based , toned with red primer , based again in DGelb . Not bad for an evening . Need to sort out the spaced armour on the turret then can do the cammo patterns . Cheers PW
  15. Being honest .......I didn't open it up and think "OMG thats the best thing ever ....." I think the bright colours make it all a bit "toy", but maybe when it's in place more, it will come into it's own ? I don't normally loose sleep over IPs. TBH I feel lotsa work put into cockpits is often wasted, rarely seen once the aircraft is finished, but again just my opinion...bear in mind I am way more an armour meddler ...
  16. So having proposed avoiding Quinta due to their Russian owners , and suggesting Yahu instead, I felt obliged to flash out some of my own cash for a Yahu product to have a look at . This 3D printed pre made stuff is not my personal idea of modelling , and having stated this I get that lots of people think its a great idea, so no need to go round the roundabout on that debate. Each to their own . πŸ˜€ So straight from Poland a 1/48 IP for Tamiya's Mossie . I look forward to using it later this year , you never know I might even be won around to the idea that this is the way to go ....resin ejector seats seem to have worked their way more into my builds of late.
  17. Go Kentucky !!!
  18. Bit more progress...been busy with other things this week . Kurt overseeing construction of the Wanne . You cant tell but those suspension units will rotate if you want them to , if you are using the workable track . Hows the fit ??? It's absolutely awesome , as tight as a millenial Tamiay offering , zero filler or clamping needed Kurt feels that Panzerwomble's intake of wine is inversely proportional to the progress of this model . But what about those workable tracks ... ??? For my money they are a let down . Not so well detailed as the link and length offerings , the track pins are poorly thought out. If they were the only option I'd go metal tracks rather than bother with these. More laterz PW
  19. I know that tank !
  20. No it's down only on this one , although one of the build logs showed them cut off and modified for folded which didn't look to difficult if you're ok with a small amount of fabrication .
  21. Eager Beavor ......
