  1. Never to weathered is my motto ! Drach is a popular naval historian who posts a lot on YouTube .
  2. Some good work there Rob . I brush painted a 1/72 build last year , but it was a odd one off nostalgia build rather than a serious attempt. Link to another place with that build Plus, I use Tamiya acrylics mostly, which brush paint like quick drying creosote. Watching these results might be worth giving it a proper shot sometime 😀
  3. Came across this fella on youtube in the great lock down days . His ability to pull of great models using only brush painting to me is impressive. Maybe take a look and see what you think. FYI - I don't know him or who he is , just liked watching his work ..
  4. Bought cheap of fleabay as the box was damaged and the instruction a bit wet ....no dramas with either of that . It's a REO whistler from AFV Club so she'll be a bit of a chubby girl in the details department, but should build up straight. Never done no Nam thing ..... which is odd as I have an on / off interest in that conflict . Stand by for lots of "Charlie don't Surf" nonsense later this year .
  5. I bet they were well appreciated when they arrived. 4 x 20mm cannons in an early 1941 fighter ....Typhoon was so equipped from September 41 but had all the problems ...not so sure about the Hurricane IIc ....summer /autumn 1941 ?
  6. Thats a really great precise build Peter, it looks really sharp , which given the fit of the parts is to be applauded . The kit ( I've built it twice... but not again) has some challenges for sure, and you've navigated around them with aplomb . 100% kudos for not adding an aerial wire ! Hobbycraft in the UK were selling them at £12 in 2020, it is a bargain ...but looking forward to your take on Kotare's work and the new Revell Hurricane ( I kinda fancy a shot at that one too . )
  7. Cheers- I was very happy with how it turned out . You know how you get to the end of the build and think , could do better ...that was on par ..or that turned out better than I thought it would . Never been a fan of pre shading ( so don't do it much) but feel it added to the salt damaged look this one .
  8. Looking good , I'd go CA to hold as well .
  9. What great fun that is ! I love it with all the lights and the little Nautilus wreck - didn't see that one coming . Great work !
  10. Just some gratuitous pix taken at the DH museum 7 years ago . 1:1 scale modelling.
  11. s'funny , things like proper fitting pegs to align angles on landing gear ( that Tammy 1/48 109 had them) are so obvious in hindsight , it's crazy how glue , bluetac and praying was considered ok for so long. Same a moulding windscreens to form part of the fuselage, so no join to fill . I was prepared to be a bit meh about this one , mainly given all the teenage angst and hype 18 months before they even cut the moulds in certain areas, however I must admit it seems to have lived up to it's promise . I'm not a big fan of dry fit either , whack in it , daub the ET glue...... if the engineering right it should all fit fine . Maybe the new Hurricane as a companion / comparison is in your future?
  12. Oops yes , you're right there. Was thinking more armour stuff, track guards , stowage bins, grills etc.
  13. Disagree buddy . You can scratch to scale as well . I'm also dubious about a lot of PE sets as my pal Simmerit points out..... a lot of the Eduard ones for armour are often pure fiction. 🤣 Still it's only glueing bit of plaaaaaztik together after all . I need to get back to my FJ1200 restoration at some stage.
  14. I watch Drachinifel ....I wasn't surprised at the colours 🤣 ... the silk purse you've made out of a sows ear however is shocking !!!
  15. Thanks for the tip that's golden 👍. I find PE a PITA , often preferring to make stuff from styrene sheet or copper sheet , both of which are easier to work I called it a night and did some sea stuff instead . Nice white styrofoam .....cut boat hull shape ....rough swell cut with a knife, and then the wakes planned out . Final rough shaping using a gas lighter with melts the foam naturally rather than leaving cut marks . Rolled with a rolling pin to even out . End stage one ! Thank you Chris Flodberg for this method.
  16. Anyway , I am not enjoying this build that much🥺 ....most of how I approach things doesn't want to play . It's all to damned small and fiddly , like 1/72 nonsense . So here were are , built up numerous bits of superstructure . Painted them ..oh ..3 or 4 times . Painting square portholes ...who knew ? Glued it all to the hull , and then a couple of washes because nothing I make needs to be clean or pristine . So paint all the small bits , glue them on, enjoy the PE railings and we're done yeah ??? Hmmm let's see. I'm with Neitsche today ..
  17. Yes I forget occasionally , nations divided by a common language and all that ! I really didn't want to fork out for a big Hood or Scharnhorst before finding out I hated ships .
  18. Hmm ..nice beaver ?
  19. Genuine 2K would be total overkill for a shelf model IMHO . I spray motorcycles in it because it set hard .
