PanzerWomble replied to PanzerWomble's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
It's better than Tamiya , on a par with Dragon / Takom . -

Zipping on , turret ready for paint . Here's a BotB Ausf J ...I've some one from the fighting with HJ around the twin villages on the Elsenborn ridge somewhere as well . This one is caption 9 Pz Div near Bastogne . Suspect restoration in Saumur ....zimmerit ...pre september ....mesh skirts ....late 1944 ...maybe ? French did have a habit of bunging stuff together . Might well be an ausf H looking at the turret. I didn't take that many pix . Laterz PW -
Had this as a birthday present a few years ago , built some of it just to check it out, held off building much more, as was unsure where it was going ....late Normandy ....Battle o/t Bulge Scenario ....East Prussia 45 ...?????maybe just build the tank and couple of figures and not make any in depth scenario ??? Whatever way , it's well inside my comfort zone . So nice box art My first Border offering ...looks good . Lots of sprues, lots of options , nice moulding, tight Takom'esq side gates , PE , Metal Barrel ...seperate plastic track links or optional link and length tracks. Very clear instructions , not convinced by the painting instructions , but will do my own research anyway . Decals look ok ish , buy will probs mask or use better ones from stash.

Ground to a halt here ...really struggling to find any joy with this build.......... tiny blobs of plastic pretending to be detailed ....so I'm parking it on SOD for now . I'll cycle back round in a bit and finish it off before the end of the GB but I need to go do something more intesting . It's answered my question as to whether 1/350 ships are for me ...so glad I didn't flash out $000's on a large Hood or some such . Bit like 1/72 for me - after two builds last year decided I wasn't interesting in the low levevels of detail offered by that scale either.

Re the spine - for me I'd just fill it. It will be covered with markings and won't be noticable post paint. Certainly doesn't draw the eye even at this stage unless you're a Spit rivet watcher . -

That looks a good close fit , but without wishing to be a git , you know it's on backwards in those shots ? -
An ND is bad skills and drills I would suggest

Some good work there Rob . I brush painted a 1/72 build last year , but it was a odd one off nostalgia build rather than a serious attempt. Link to another place with that build Plus, I use Tamiya acrylics mostly, which brush paint like quick drying creosote. Watching these results might be worth giving it a proper shot sometime 😀

Came across this fella on youtube in the great lock down days . His ability to pull of great models using only brush painting to me is impressive. Maybe take a look and see what you think. FYI - I don't know him or who he is , just liked watching his work ..

Bought cheap of fleabay as the box was damaged and the instruction a bit wet ....no dramas with either of that . It's a REO whistler from AFV Club so she'll be a bit of a chubby girl in the details department, but should build up straight. Never done no Nam thing ..... which is odd as I have an on / off interest in that conflict . Stand by for lots of "Charlie don't Surf" nonsense later this year .

I bet they were well appreciated when they arrived. 4 x 20mm cannons in an early 1941 fighter ....Typhoon was so equipped from September 41 but had all the problems ...not so sure about the Hurricane IIc ....summer /autumn 1941 ?

Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk IIa
PanzerWomble replied to Peterpools's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Thats a really great precise build Peter, it looks really sharp , which given the fit of the parts is to be applauded . The kit ( I've built it twice... but not again) has some challenges for sure, and you've navigated around them with aplomb . 100% kudos for not adding an aerial wire ! Hobbycraft in the UK were selling them at £12 in 2020, it is a bargain ...but looking forward to your take on Kotare's work and the new Revell Hurricane ( I kinda fancy a shot at that one too . ) -

Cheers- I was very happy with how it turned out . You know how you get to the end of the build and think , could do better ...that was on par ..or that turned out better than I thought it would . Never been a fan of pre shading ( so don't do it much) but feel it added to the salt damaged look this one .- 13 replies

s'funny , things like proper fitting pegs to align angles on landing gear ( that Tammy 1/48 109 had them) are so obvious in hindsight , it's crazy how glue , bluetac and praying was considered ok for so long. Same a moulding windscreens to form part of the fuselage, so no join to fill . I was prepared to be a bit meh about this one , mainly given all the teenage angst and hype 18 months before they even cut the moulds in certain areas, however I must admit it seems to have lived up to it's promise . I'm not a big fan of dry fit either , whack in it , daub the ET glue...... if the engineering right it should all fit fine . Maybe the new Hurricane as a companion / comparison is in your future?
