  1. Apparently............ the order to add stripes was given to the RAF only a couple of days before, because of the overiding security. They were literally painting them on with yard brooms in some squadrons on June 1st . They also didn't know why they were doing it, because the invsion date was such a secret . I was reading David Renders book last year about being a young tank company commander in June 1944 ..he initially thought the "aircraft with stripes" were from a new air force, they just didn't know which country had joined the Allies. NB - your Tiffies stripes look pretty good to me . 👍
  2. More Nutella ...they are serial killers yeah ?
  3. Not my work at all , but given Edgar died in 2015 I'm guessing there is no copyright . He was one of the first people I chatted to on TOS many years ago , as he lived only a short distance away at the time and offered me some Future when it was hard to get. Nice guy . 4. Old Hasegawa FGR2, worked to FG1 . 892 Sdn FAA flying of HMS Ark Royal 1972 . Quickboost seats, Extradekal for Omega fin badge, Masked some of it . Love Phantoms , if you asked any British kid to draw a jet fighter in the 1970's it would have been a Phantom shape. Link to WIP
  5. Quinta is Russian , given embargoes I doubt they will find it easy to get a new German kit . plus they are Russian …so at some stage their exports will dry up unless they wind down their war in Europe . Personally stopped buying anything Russian
  6. I think at 1/72 it’s mainly about the paint rather than the details as most of the details are just bumps unless you want to go nuts, well that’s my take . nb having sold off any 1/72 i owned last year as decided never again
  7. The nose shape looks bang on , also looks like they have included the extra “armour” plate over the fuel tank , thats a very Mk1 thing. 👍
  8. Good start—— painting by Friday ? How does the canopy look open, it’s one of my bug bears with the Revell thingy - you have to really come up with a workaround as the hood is way too thick to sit on the fuselage, Also given this is Tamiya pricing not Revell I am surprised at the amount of moulded in detail and lack of engine , but that’s just looking at pix rather than plastic .
  9. I'd consider buying others if I was struggling for references and walkarounds. It was great to have it open on the Ipad in front of me as I've working out where stuff went . The builds were useful inspiration as well . All in all good value I felt .
  10. I'm on the fence at the moment , love the Sundowners but not sure about the shark mouth on the Tamiya scheme.
  11. Righty ho - sticking a fork in this one and calling it done . Glamour pix tomorrow in an RFI as it's midnight here now. Really happy how this turned out , even if this is 1987 tooling originally - for sure a keeper for me . Stoked to have a crack at the Tamiya F4 later this year as well .
  12. You can build a second one to savour later !
  13. Spitfire Mk IA, serial P9386 QV-K of No 19 Squadron RAF at Fowlmere, September 1940, Sq Ldr Brian Lane He wrote a book under a pseudonym Sadly died in 1942. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Lane_(RAF_officer)
  14. Looking very Spitfiery .👍 Just for info - I was told once if you left your flaps down after landing , you had to buy a round a drinks in the mess as it was frowned upon . As ever not saying never, just not SOP . they don't droop naturally as some aircraft do either. Might have been from Edgar notes ?
  15. @GazzaS It does exist then with all the hype I felt this was never to be released 🤣 Can you please get it banged out for the weekend and give us a build review eh ? theres a good fella .
  16. You did really well with those old figures, I've used the Revell polythene ones which were pretty awful . Torpedo clamps are great addition as well
  17. I have a Airfix/heller/revell Jag on the shelf , it’s ok for basic shape but not a lot else . The kitty hawk ones were supposed not to be great either . Shame as it’s a great looking aircraft with a long pedigree .
  18. Thats a great colourful scheme . Chipping and weathering looks very good as well . 👍 Swedish biplane ...came flatpacked ? I'll get me coat.
  19. Cheers Peeps , I've wanted a Phantom from Ark Royal on my shelf for a long time, so I'm enjoying the build. Love F4's and Lightnings in equal amounts ...if only there was a decent Jaguar in 1/48 ....I do have a Kinetic Harrier to buid and then for me all my cold war jets will be complete. 😁 Lots of decals today . I think we are done with stencils . Needs seats , stores , wheels and weathering to complete. Mottling is more pronounced in pics than on the bench , wonder if the camera is getting carried away with the contrast . We will see.
