Looking so much better now, you did a great job on filling all those gaps Kai. I also wondered how Italeri got the idea to make those intakes in such a way that there was a seam running from top to bottom straight through a hatch? Just half a cm or so more to the front and the seam line would have been between to panel lines and much easier to remove.(I opened the box on my Mirage IIIE, just hoping that the fuselage would be different, but no, they used the same place for the intakes to join with the fuselage as on the IIIC, so I closed the box and moved it to the bottom of my stash). But you are getting there, the fuselage is getting smoother every day, looking forward to the painting stage,

Hang in there,

Frank

Thanks for your feedback Frank.

I had exactly the same thoughts like you. Don’t know what was in the head of the designer. They could have really done much better.

I am also looking forward to the painting stage but still a lot of rescribing ahead of me...

Gear looks great but all the work involved is madding and we're only talking the gear!

Keep 'em comin

Peter

.

Thank you Peter!

Yesterday I made a test-fit of the windshield and canopy. The fit of the windshield is really good. No gap to fill:

But the fit of the canopy is only good if you plan to leave it open:

But I‘m happy: I will leave it open...

The first subassembly without rework!

I‘m curious how the fit of the external tanks will be!

Kai,

I completely caught up on your build this morning.  It seems that this kit is really a test of modeling patience.  You have passed with flying colors to say the least.  Your cockpit, ducting changes and a million other adjustments are going to really make a great model.  I have never done an Israeli aircraft before.  Despite all of your trails, your fine works makes me want to build one.....with another kit maybe.  ;)    I am looking forward to its completion as I truly think its going to be a real eye pleaser.

I haven’t done one before either but I always liked the 3-tone camouflage like the SEA-scheme of the US Airforce and wanted to make one Israeli aircraft.

F-15 or F-4E would have been a better choice regarding the available kits. The IDF also flew early F-4Es as far as I know. I have the Tamiya in my stash. Maybe this will be my second IDF-plane.

For a minute, I thought Italeri screwed up and forgot to work it’s magic on the canopy. I’m right with you and like how the Mirage is going to look with the canopy closed.

Keep ‘em comin

Peter

Me too Peter, but as I said this won’t be a problem I have to cope with since my canopy will be left open.
One subassembly without rework! I can’t believe it...;)

Kai,

I'm glad to see more seams and faults eliminated.   The canopy is a bummer...  but a common occurrence, unfortunately.

You're getting closer.

Thanks Gaz! When the rescribing is done I can finally start with the work I like most: painting !

Italeri didn't miss a single opportunity

That‘s right Peter! Italeri doesn‘t leave out any opportunity to annoy the model-builder...

BTW:

What about the progress on your ZM He-219?

You got it all wrong. The Italeri approach is about humility not about finished kits.
It's the same like sitting in a hole in the earth for eighteen years, with a vow of silence,..., ... do I hear Brian or just the cry of the Hermit? :D

Cheers Rob

I love the Israeli 3-Tone Camo. Looks nearly as stunning as the SEA-Scheme!

You could build an early F-4E or an F-15 or a F-16 Sufa (which I don’t like that much due to the humpback).

Today I rescribed all panellines where necessary.

Thank god to my tiger-saw this was a job which could be done within 3 hours:

Still some small faults to be corrected but the main work is done.

Finally I added the small stiffener plates which I sanded away when reworking the tail cone:

Next thing to do is to add all the rivets which were lost during the sanding process. But that’s an easy task compared to the rescribing.

Hello Kai,

almost ready for takeoff......

Great progress,

Thanks Frank,

this evening I will add the missing rivets and then I‘m close to priming.

Have the landing-gear detailing still ahead but have a really good book for reference now. The books from Duke Hawkins are really nice.

In spite of all the setbacks, I still love the mirage, what a beautiful fighter, I can understand why you wanted to build a Swiss version with the canards. (But I guess that project will stay grounded after you finish with the IIIC). Keep at it, the end is in sight,

Cheers,

Frank

I like the Mirage too! Especially the Swiss variant with the canards is really nice. Some of the big reworks (nose and tailcone) won’t be necessary since I want to build an RS:

I also like the camouflage schemes of the 70ties and 80ties. Very colorful. Not comparable to the grey in grey in grey of today and many ugly planes...

It won’t be one of the next I will build but it will also not be grounded forever...
