Great job, Kai!  A huge transformation from what the LG once were!  Now, you're getting close!

I‘ve not seen it like that Gary! And it has been a long way but most of it gone now!

Congrats Kai, the detailing payed off, the landing gears look like the real thing. Wish you fun with the painting.

Cheers Rob

Thanks for your compliment Rob!

And now the fun-phase begins, you’re right!

Yesterday I added all the missing rivets to the airframe. Took some time but now it’s finished. Here are some sample pictures:

Then I moved over to the guns. The representation Italeri created is more than poor.
Since the caliber of the gun is 30mm I used 0,9mm cannula to replicate them. I used reference fotos from the Duke Hawkins Book. The damping-rings are not the same for the C and DS but the arrangement is the same:

The damping-rings (although prominent on the real plane nothing provided by Italeri) came from the Eduard Exterior Brass Set and were really fiddly to bend and glue:

But the result was acceptable for me.

The last thing I did was to add the pitot tube to the nose. It has to be attached already at this stage because it’s partly painted.
I used the Master pitot which needed some rework to make it fit  perfectly.:

That’s all for today.

This is how my Mirage looks like now:

I now will go on with the landing-gear and the preparation of the plane for priming.

Very good point, gun barrel must be added! I will see if I can manage something similar in my own Mirage model.

Tonight I glued the windshield to the cockpit, finished the rework of the external tanks and painted the exhaust.

After rework the fit of the windshield was ok:

This was followed by sanding and rescribing of the subsonic wingtanks:

Then I painted the complete exhaust-system.

I started with AK Extreme Metal steel. The nozzle and the Turbine with AB-ring were painted with it while the thrust tube received a coat of Tamiya green:

This was then accentuated with AK Extreme Metal pale burnt iron, burnt iron, metallic blue, Alclad jet exhaust and Alclad sepia. Since the nozzle has a more matt sheen every component received a coat of flat Xtracolor varnish:

I still have to pick out the details with a wash and some staining inside the tube but the basic painting is finished.

That nozzle looks great and appears to be metal made after painting. I switched completely to Xtreme metals from AK, which are pure gold to me, but there are two Alclad's which I can't substitute, exhaust manifold and jet exhaust. The Alclad titanium looks also better than the Xtreme metal one, but it's so fragile, that I don't use it anymore.

Cheers Rob

Nice work fitting the front canopy. I read there is a new glue from Revell: Clear Glue for canopies and other applications but that's all I know, which is next to nothing. Can't wait to see the Mirage with primer and in the paint shop.

Terrific work on the exhaust ... looks so good and realistic.

Keep 'em comin

Very nice looking painting of the nozzle, Kai.  I can see a sooty appearance already beginning.

Thanks Gary. Let’s see how it will look like when finished!

Thanks Rob! I did the same you did.
Alclad only used for these 2 colors. AK Colors are really beautiful!

Thank you Peter, didn’t hear of this new clear glue from Revell. I use contacta clear from them.

I hope I can start priming at the long weekend!

Lovely job on the windshield and exhaust Kai.

How was the windshield fit? It required a fair bit of trimming on mine but I put that down to the fit of the side panels with the resin dash and front coaming.

Thank you Gus!

The fit was ok but you really have to take care that the front plastic part on the fuselage fits correctly:

I had to sand the rear parts a little bit to get a tight fit to the fuselage.

BTW: I‘m so impressed by your Cheetah conversion that I ordered the conversion kit at Scaleworx yesterday. I also got another Revell Mirage III E (the same you use) very cheap from a friend.

The thruster is completely finished now.

The nozzle received a wash with oil-colors:

The other parts were weathered with different colors of the Tamiya Weatherine Sets:

Happy modeling and have a nice long weekend!

Before starting the priming process I test-fitted the thruster within the tail cone, because a rework of this area after the painting process  would be much effort.

Some rework was necessary until the fit was ok:

Now I can start masking and priming at the long weekend...
