alberto49
Hi everybody, it wasn't in my plans to build the above, but when I was offered a discount by Italeri, I had to choose a kit to purchase and my choice fell to the Mirage IIIC But which Mirage III? I decided to go for Israel Shahak, so I also ordered the conversion kit and seat made by Isradecal. Also I got a lot of inspiration from Kaireckstadt model also being presented in these pages. OK, let's have a look on what I've done so far: Landing gear wells Cockpit (without the seat, because I'm still waiting for the packet from Israel). Dashboard is from Eduard, side consolle from kit. More will follow as soon as I get the parts I'm waiting for. Alberto Edited April 13, 2021 by alberto49 Corrected wrong typing

Which livery will you build?
alberto49
Not yet decided. Very likely it will be a mimetic 259, like in the Eduard profile, because the only decals I have available are those supplied by Italeri, but I could do also a different call number, by making those decals myself. 4

Nice choice Alberto! I‘m building the one on the photo attached and I have the IsraDecal Set for them. Since there are a lot of more 3-tone-variants included in the set I could send you some photos of the other possible variants and could then send the corresponding decals to you, if you like. Maybe we could do this via PM. Kai

Kai Hello Kai, I just sent you a p.m. My idea is to build, if I can get enough info and good decals, a plane belonging to 101 Squadron in an ideal continuation with the Avia S-199 I made 6 years ago from an Hasegawa kit with Ciro models conversion. 6
Peterpools
Alberto Great idea - if you do decide to use the 1975 cammo color scheme the green and dark brown were different then used today and seems to be a matter of conversation as to what are the correct colors Keep ‘em comin Peter

Really I'm more inclined to do the 1971 camou as shown in Eduard's scheme and, for instance, in the enclosed photo. Colors should be the same (FS 34258 - 33531 -30219 and 35622) but no yellow/black triangles, added to avoid confusion with Libyan Air Force Mirages. By the way, early next week I should eventually receive the conversion kit form Isradecal and so I could progress with my build. Alberto
HubertB
A genuine ignoramus question : is the double artificial horizon on the IP prototypical ? Very nice work, Alberto Hubert

Very nice work, Alberto Hubert I also came about this question when I built my cockpit (because I used the same set from Eduard like Alberto). It was really used in the series IP. It wasn‘t always at the same place on the IP but present on them. For me it seems that the bigger instrument is a combination of compass and artificial horizon and the smaller one solely an artificial horizon.
HubertB
Actually, the smaller instrument on the left looks like a turn and slip indicator, whereas the central one looks more like the classical artificial horizon. I confess I am anything but familiar with the Mirage instrument panel design, but maybe the flight characteristics of the delta wing made the use of the turn and slip indicator, as a sign of the commands’ coordination, on top of the reference of the horizon, necessary ? In my quest for understanding, I could see that the later variants like the « E » had the radar scope in the middle, and the artificial horizon on the left. alberto49
Hi everybody, today I finally received the kit from Isradecal, quite a nice one with very crispy details, specially on the exhaust. I also received the resin Mk-4 seat, still from Isradecal, but it looks a bit strange. In any case, now I can continue my build. 5

I tested it‘s fit in the cockpit with closed canopy. I would recommend not to use the brass yparts but scratch them. The activating handles look much better when made from wire. For more information about the seat (and many others) you can look at this homepage: http://www.ejectionsite.com/frame_sg.htm And some pics of the real seat and my painted and improved Isracast seat. 6

Many thanks for those photos of the real seat, will be of great help when I will start painting mine. In the mean time I found an other supplier of resin items, they look very nice and I decided to order one, see the enclosed link if you are interested in more details https://sparkit-models.com/en/cockpit/44-siege-mk4-jrm-pour-jaguar-a-et-e.html 4

alberto49
Hi, just a little upgrade on my wip: since yesterday I'm fighting to get cockpit elements to fit into the fuselage. First attempt is shown in following pictures. First two pictures are from the top, everything seems to be OK, but look at the following taken from the bottom: 1
alberto49
The matter is that dimensions of side panel are wrong. I already filed away at least two mm from the bottom side and reduced the thickness, but still doesn't work, to day I will continue. I'm surprised for that because previous 1/32 kit from Italeri, the F-104G, went together without any problem. More pictures will follow.

I had 2 problems with the fit of the cockpit tub: The first problem I had was the fit of the side panels in the upper fuselage which I could easily correct: And I had to sand away some mm of the cockpit tub on the right side, which caused the same trouble you have now: But with this rework the fit was ok. Maybe you should glue the cockpit tub back part to the tub and then align the side-panels. This is which showed me where I had to rework the complete assembly to fit into the fuselage. Hope this helps a little. Kai

Again aprox 2 mm of plastic to shave.
Peterpools
Alberto Nice work on a tough kit. Glad you're digging in and working your way through all the rough spots. Seeing what you and Kai are going through, I'm seriously thinking of selling my Mirage (still shrink wrapped) plus the Resin Ejection Seat and Atar 9 engine - just way more work then I want to lavish on a kit.
