Just ordered masks (Eduard though) for the He 111, Ju 87 and my last T-6 Texan kit. On a plane like the He111 I would definitely consider masks if they're available. So many tiny windows.... 4
BlrwestSiR Posted March 2, 2024 Author Posted March 2, 2024 Okay, canopy was giving me fits with the uh, fit. Solved it with some chopping and ripping out of bits. Much better now. It will still need a smear of filler but way better than before. I also threw some paint at it and of course, I shouldn't have unmasked the canopy yet so I'll have cover it up again. 6
Martinnfb Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 repetitio est mater studiorum , almost there, can't wait for the squiggly squiggles 3 1

Peterpools Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Carl Nice work on cleaning of the canopy fit for sure. Looking mighty good. 3 1
BlrwestSiR Posted March 10, 2024 Author Posted March 10, 2024 Time for an update on the 262. I went back and forth on getting new masks for the canopy when I decided to just do it the old fashioned way and cut my own. Hopefully they work okay. I then sprayed the touch-ups and the right side of the fuselage in RLM76. I then started on the mottle camo. With the wings unmasked. Next up will be the undersides and engine nacelles. 9 1
BlrwestSiR Posted March 11, 2024 Author Posted March 11, 2024 Thanks Peter. My first real try at mottle camo. 2
BlrwestSiR Posted March 11, 2024 Author Posted March 11, 2024 Time for more paint. This time I masked the upper sides off and sprayed the black lower sides. I used NATO black to help give it a weathered look. 8
DocRob Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Sweet Carl, I never have attempted a mottling camo myself, but hope to do soon. I would be lucky, if it comes out like yours. Cheers Rob 3 1
Peterpools Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Carl Good call on using Nato Black, as it has the faded look that seems to be weathered right out of the bottle - my favorite. black. 3 1
BlrwestSiR Posted March 11, 2024 Author Posted March 11, 2024 Thanks @DocRoband @Peterpools! I'm happy with the mottle and the black undersides. I have done a bit of post shading on the underside though to hopefully bring some more contrast to it. 8
Martinnfb Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Looking good Carl. I was wondering, wouldn't make sense to paint it together with the nose cone? That way you have consistent camouflage pattern. I understand that the radar bearing arms are in the way. Perhaps just to tack the cone in gently without antennas and attach the whole assembly afterwards ? 2 1
belugawhaleman Posted March 12, 2024 Posted March 12, 2024 Nice work Carl! I only tried to do the mottle thing once.....on my Pegasus 1/18 V-l....just a few spots... 3 1

It'll be easy enough to paint them to match. 5
BlrwestSiR Posted March 12, 2024 Author Posted March 12, 2024 Whatever is giving me the motivation to keep plugging away at the model is still going so I'm making some great progress. I started cleaning up the brass gear legs. They're by Aerocraft. There was some flash so I had to use a Dremel to grind it off. They were then primed and painted. Oleos still need to be done. Then I painted the remaining control surfaces. I'll probably wait until the gear is on before adding these. Next up, I touched up around the cockpit opening. I attached the rudder and painted that along with the nose which is temporarily stuck in place. 8
BlrwestSiR Posted March 12, 2024 Author Posted March 12, 2024 I did a quick test fit of the tailplanes. One thing I noticed looking at pics is that the tailplanes tend to be pointing up rather than down. I've given them a bit of this to add some visual interest. 9
BlrwestSiR Posted March 13, 2024 Author Posted March 13, 2024 Markings time. I used masks for the main markings as I get along better with those than decals. The other side. Then I did the wings. The right upper wing is slightly back from the left so I'll need to re-do it once things are dry. Oh and the landing gear legs are on. 10
Peterpools Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Carl No question you're on a roll and making fantastic progress. Nive work on cleaning up the gear as metal gear does take extra work to whip them into shape. Mask work looks perfect as well. 4 1
