Martinnfb Posted February 5, 2024 Author Posted February 5, 2024 Yesterday I spend some time over scaling and comparing photos with the wheels from Eduard and decided to use only the front one, the mains will be from the kit. I hastily slapped together some wiring harnesses on the r2600s. A quick coat of wash is drying as we speak. There will be placards , some detailing with brush and they can go in. 10
Peterpools Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 Martin Some awesome progress and looking so good. 1

You're not bad at this modelling stuff, you ought to make it a hobby ? looks at recent radials on his own shelf 1 8
Martinnfb Posted February 5, 2024 Author Posted February 5, 2024 And then you’re playing with this just to create this …. but we know it’s there. 🐿️ 7 5
Martinnfb Posted February 5, 2024 Author Posted February 5, 2024 Now the never ending task of filling and sanding and then we can start with the actual build. ok I have to admit that only a minuscule amount of filler was needed to address mostly my own sloppiness me go girl ! 10

Martin, What made you decide to go with the kit main wheels rather than the resin ones you have? Your engines look simply amazing!! Chris 5
Martinnfb Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 Hi Chris, the kit wheels are actually bang on in terms of size and shape. They are lacking the finesse of the resin, but Eduard wheels look just too oversized. anyway another day of filling , sanding, priming, filling…. had to thin the trailing edges too. 8
CANicoll Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Thanks, Martin, for your explanation on the wheels. Shame that Eduard got that wrong. Your bird is looking great! 2
KevinM Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Some really Nice Work Martin and you seriously whooping this birds arse. 1
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted February 7, 2024 Administrators Posted February 7, 2024 Now I want to open my bomb bay doors. Oops too late. I already burned mine, them stomped on the melted plastic, then burned it again. 1 6
Peterpools Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Martin Looking mighty good. Eduard is replacing the main wheels in their resin set as they are too big. If you have the original ones, just shoot Eduard an email and they will replace them. 1 1
Martinnfb Posted February 9, 2024 Author Posted February 9, 2024 Peter, it’s not worth the hassle. The kit wheels will do just fine. Regarding today’s progress I was fixing my airbrushes, trying to figure out what’s wrong with my maintenance habits. In the process I laid on a mist of mouldy looking pre-shading pattern of green- brown to get an idea of the future camouflage pattern as well as to expose hidden shortcomings of my finishing skills. 10 1
BlrwestSiR Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Looks good there Martin. Definitely a weathered finish. What's the airbrush issues you're having? 1 1
DocRob Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 You are cruising, Martin. I´ve not even started my GB build log and you already talk about wheels, now that´s what I call discouraging . Roll on with that beauty, I really like the engines and exhausts. Cheers Rob 1 4
Peterpools Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Martin The beginning of your weathering is looking mighty good as the bleaching is coming through load and clear. Same as with Carl, what issues are you have with your air brush? 2 1
Martinnfb Posted February 9, 2024 Author Posted February 9, 2024 Thank you for the kind words gentlemen. For some reason my airbrush is not spraying in consistent pattern, I've changed the needle and the nozzle and its still shoots off-side as if the needle was bend. Not a biggie with this build, since the final coat will be applied by brush, but I have to figure it out sooner or later. I need your help guys. If anybody has the Hobby Boss IL-2 kit and is willing to spare FAB-250 or BRAB-220 bombs I would appreciate that. Kit comes with extras and I can steal some from mine, but need two more. 6
DocRob Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Can´t help with the bombs, Martin, other than finding these here made by Res-Im: FAB-250M-62 (2pcs), RES-IM 32009 (scalemates.com) Have you checked and cleaned the nozzle of your AB. If there is something sticking in there it can have this effect. I have something like this to clean the nozzle: The flat grinded side cleans away the dirt, used with some cleaner fluid (Best is imho AK´s Extreme Metal Cleaner / Thinner) Once, I even had a hairline crack on the tip of the nozzle, which caused a bad spray habit. It was only visible with a magnifier. Cheers Rob 7 1
Martinnfb Posted February 9, 2024 Author Posted February 9, 2024 Thank you for the advice on the tool Rob. Well the nozzle and the needle are brand new, that’s why it’s so puzzling. Last night I took it apart and gave it a bath in ultrasonic cleaner then re- assembling everything carefully and checking for cracks, bends or deformation. I need to take a closer look again. the Reskit offers post war ( modern) version that are commies currently dumping on Ukrainian soil. The WW2 model is slightly different. Eduard makes it in 1/48 and that’s about it. 5
Landlubber Mike Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Looking really great Martin! Those engines are fantastic! 4
DocRob Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 One stupid question Martin, do the needle and nozzle have the corresponding size? With the older Infinity nozzles, it´s easy to mix them up, guess how I know Cheers Rob 5
Martinnfb Posted February 9, 2024 Author Posted February 9, 2024 Thank you Mike. That is actually a very relevant question Rob, yes they are I bought them together. Here are some pictures of external bomb load, you can clearly see the Soviet style bomb racks on the side of the fuselage and the distinctive fins of the FAB500. 6
Martinnfb Posted February 10, 2024 Author Posted February 10, 2024 I don’t think that the front wheel leg is going to survive. It’s like the famous antenna mast on Hasegawa 190, it’s broken before you know it. 4

That should help prevent it from getting banged into. 2 1
CANicoll Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 Carl, Camo is coming along nicely, despite the AB problems. This is a really nice looking bird you got going there. If you don't mind me weighing in on the spray pattern issue: Maybe re-sharpen the tip? I have seen where brand new tips are not perfectly conical (for who knows what reason). Just a thought. 2 1
