Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 23, 2024 Administrators Posted March 23, 2024 Now that I’m reading into RAF material, I might as well start this kit. Got it from Cees Broere years ago, so that obligates me to build it. Bought the expensive Napier Sabre engine yesterday (95€!) and got a shitload of sets today. Only need to get the gunbays and some other stuff. 13
Spitfire Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 My very favourite subject (after Spitfires) so I will be interested to see how you tackle this one. Cheers Dennis 2
Bomber_County Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 This was my second ever 1/32 kit, it was an interesting experience……..mainly due to my lack of building skills at the time………might just have another crack at it…….following along with interest….. 2

Special Hobby kits sure can be challenging! Not much of this kit will be used in my build :)))) All panels will be opened and left off. The Napier Sabre engine should land on my doorstep today. Already looked at some online reviews. Always thought it was a one piece resin chunk. But alas... many small parts to clean up and assemble. 6
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 27, 2024 Author Administrators Posted March 27, 2024 If you think the engine is one solid chunk of resin. Think again… 11 1 1
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted March 31, 2024 Author Administrators Posted March 31, 2024 Managed to find a rare fuel gauge from a Hawker Tempest. The Tempest had two. The upper one showing the nose tank contents and the bottom one (with two dials) showing the wing tanks contents. 12
ScottsGT Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 Holy schmolie! What a project this is going to be. 1
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted April 11, 2024 Author Administrators Posted April 11, 2024 Just got this amazing book. A real must have! 9
BlrwestSiR Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 Jeroen, how do you find the various aircraft parts that you incorporate into your build?

Everywhere and nowhere. Just scored some Whirlwind crash parts. Need to verify their authenticity if possible. Got those from Ebay. 4 1
Andy the Sheep Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 The Tempest is one of my favourite aircrafts, the peculiarities of the Napier Sabre engine are fascinating and this is going to be a very interesting build. Enough reasons to pull up a chair and follow your progresses, Jeroen. 2

Administrators JeroenPeters Posted May 10, 2024 Author Administrators Posted May 10, 2024 Got more goodies. almost ready to start! 6
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted May 13, 2024 Author Administrators Posted May 13, 2024 First part is cleaned. Beware: if you’re planning on using the nose fuel tank set AND the engine set. Be sure to use the firewall from the nose fuel set and not the one provided in the engine set. The latter only has detail on the front. 7
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted May 17, 2024 Author Administrators Posted May 17, 2024 Started cleaning up the first parts. Very time consuming and delicate work. The firewall already has 16 parts attached to it. This will take some time! 8
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted May 28, 2024 Author Administrators Posted May 28, 2024 Cleaned up all the parts for the first few steps. Then i discovered some misaligned casting on the engine block. Wrote and email to Special Hobby. They replied swiftly and sent me a replacement straight away. Great customer service! 10
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 5, 2024 Author Administrators Posted June 5, 2024 Started with the engine bearers. You need to be very careful in lining these up properly 9
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 8, 2024 Author Administrators Posted June 8, 2024 Engine bearers now properly alligned. 8
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 8, 2024 Author Administrators Posted June 8, 2024 Just visited Cees Broere and was treated to a few great reference books. Almost ready to go full speed on this build. Which is snail pace in my world. 7
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 10, 2024 Author Administrators Posted June 10, 2024 Lots of tiny parts. A real gem. I hope 😬 5
Administrators JeroenPeters Posted June 11, 2024 Author Administrators Posted June 11, 2024 A bit frustrated with the Special Hobby engine which turns out to be special indeed. In the sense that the back of the replaced engine block is completely misformed and also a little misalligned. I have decided to even use the original block which i had replaced. A lot of careful filling and shaping will need to be done. Also: some small parts are missing of the casting blocks. I will have to scratch those. Pretty dissatisfied with this expensive set. I’ll fix it but it will take a lot of time. 3 1 2
