Paulster Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 You guys sure make it tough to ignore the 1/24 scale stuff.
airscale Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 hi gang, review samples are out or on their way to the great and the good (including our Jim) I have added a pre-order page to the store so orders can be dispatched as soon as we are back in the UK on 6th August - just click the image below.. happy Typhoonery... Peter
Paulster Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Not fair. Really don't need one but y'all keep making this great stuff for it. Need to finish my 48th scale kit. 80% done.
nmayhew Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Ok so having had a look (briefly) through the kit, here is what I will wait for before thinking about building it - turned brass gun barrels; the kit ones ask you to take a 0.9mm drill bit and hollow out the barrel ends yourself - now even if you were happy to build OOTB, on a kit this complex I would not expect this; I think this is a bit slack by Airfix - resin wheels; the usual story - resin ones are just cleaner, sharper and have greater detail - Eduard instrument panel; not a fan of decals here, but that's just personal choice; I will wait on seeing the Airscale decals 'in action' and maybe change my mind? - masks for roundels (Maketar probably make some of these already?) and some more schemes - **proper** turned brass landing gear; kit oleos are split in two part, and will have the inevitable seam line; I would also feel more comfortable having something more sturdy given the size of this kit
Dave J Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Cheers Nick. Does your kit have issues with the canopy too?
nmayhew Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Hi Cees I will leave it to the pros (I am retired!! ) but I do think it is a very good kit and am pleased with my purchase Dave hi mate Yes sadly my canopy had a tiny hairline crack where it attaches to the sprue I have emailed Airfix (last night) and will let you know what they say I imagine I am in a long queue! Cheers N 1
wackyracer Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Mine has a crack and distortion also. Email sent as per all the other buyers I suspect.
Trigger Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 i have got two kits, and both have got the same crack in the canopy where it's attached to the sprue. I also have sent an e-mail and i'am waiting for a reply. (to be continued) Frank
Dave J Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Shame! I would thought their QC would have checked these things!
Wingco57 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Has anyone checked MN235 in Canada if it has the hairline crack on top of the canopy. Cees
Wingco57 Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Well, if you crack it, then the kit is alright then. Cees 1
Paulster Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Shame! I would thought their QC would have checked these things! Bet they are now!!
Paulster Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Ok so having had a look (briefly) through the kit, here is what I will wait for before thinking about building it - **proper** turned brass landing gear; kit oleos are split in two part, and will have the inevitable seam line; I would also feel more comfortable having something more sturdy given the size of this kit Maybe Ernie G will bless you all with a set.
andyrowe Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Just got my replacement canopy parts from Airfix. Fantastic turnaround, sent them my address on Wednesday and had the parts this morning. The good news is there is no crack. The bad news is the distortion is just as bad and the general appearance is worse. It looks like it has been dipped in Future really badly. Arrived in a sealed bag. You would have thought that they would check the parts before sending. Will be emailing Airfix again.
Spitfire Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I have had the same experience, great service, fast delivery of new parts, the replacements did not have the crack but both had an oval shaped distortion in the rear of the canopy, I've sent an email off to them. Cheers Dennis
alpinestar Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Guys, Just found these. Metal and PE rockets from Profimodeller. They look sweet! http://www.profimodeller.com/detail/p24001-us-uk-hvar-rockets/ Chris.
alpinestar Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 The kit rocket heads are not as pointed as the Mosquito kit parts, Airfix seem to have fixed that issue. However they are still a little basic OOB so these AM ones will be a great improvement. The doubled up rockets will indeed look cool Doogs Chris
