Couple of hours work and the first set of belts are installed. First time with HGW belts and very impressed. Just need a wash and matting down.

Thanks Nick.

On the A-1 and A-4 bomber versions there was an mg machine gun

Ju-88Cockpit.jpg

On the C versions the front glass has been replaced with the solid nose and armament which in turn removed the front seat next to the pilot

Ju88-Cockpit-13f-s.jpg

So the gun becomes redundant and the hole was replaced with glass. Not visible on this pic but shows the armament where the seat once was and the ammo box between the pilots legs/feet.

On the kit part the hole is moulded in so I had to cut this section out and will replace with a piece of clear acetate.

Several hours work yesterday afternoon and not much to show for some reason.

Cockpit has had the seats and belts installed along with the relocated compass.

Working through the final build stages before paint. Added the resin wing tips and now the flaps. First one was fine but this ones is somewhat curved!

Any ideas to straighten her up?

Painted up and installed the quickboost exhausts

Then on the other wing and fuselage shot some Halfords grey primer

Few joins and bits that need a little attention, then onto the fun part of paintwork.

Things really are coming together here. Following this with interest.

You tried dipping the aileron in hot water and straightening? That usually does the trick.

A few hours spent sorting a few suspect joints but finally onto paint. Being all over black I wanted to get some texture into it, so after a few hours looking at different methods came up with the following...

First off the Halfords grey plastic primer was given a smooth with a old polishing pad. This mid grey is an ideal place to start. I then took some masking fluid and several bits of torn sponge and dabbed around areas of wear and bleaching.

I then took RLM66 and sprayed it over the top. Then the masking fluid was removed (harder than I thought it would be) with various toothpicks and sanding sponges used to remove the masking to leave a nice starting texture

Tomorrow I'm hoping to add a salt layer and another darker shade of grey/black.

So today I finished cleaning up the masking then coated her in water before grinding coarse sea salt over random areas.

20150831_143618.jpg

The salt/water was dried off with a hairdryer to speed up the process.

Then a darker shade of grey was added and when dry the salt was then brushed off.

And here's the overall effect from above

And then repeated for the bottom

Next I'm adding the masks for the codes and markings which I spray, then final coats of highly thinned black/grey to finish.

Thanks Bevan

This is the effect I'm looking to create.

This first image is actually a Ju88C from Gilze Rijen, so a perfect buddy to work against.
