Miracle Paint Masks Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 This is the Revell Spitfire Mk II finished as a Mk I. All of the markings are painted on and it represents the first Spitfire to be flown by Geoffrey Wellum, the youngest pilot to fly Spitfires during the Battle of Britain, QJ-K K9998. ] Mr Wellum lives in Mullion, Cornwall, less than 2 minutes from me so I built this for the Mullion Heritage centre. The passage is from his book "First Light" and they are the first paragraphs describing his first flight. If you haven't read this book then you are missing out. The book with a 1/72 scale model, also with painted on markings sat on top 2
Spitfire Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Nice one Mal, and a great story behind it Cheers Den
Administrators James H Posted May 23, 2015 Administrators Posted May 23, 2015 Very nice Mal! Sweet kit to build. You did a corking job
rieser Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Cracker Mal. Hope you enjoyed getting some time at the modelling bench for a change. Great result. Hope too that the model was well-received at its new home. Cheers, Ralph.
nmayhew Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 hi Mal the Spit looks beautiful one question: should it have the IFF antennae coming out of the fuselage? I thought these only started to be fitted at the end of September / early October, and so would not be seen on most BoB Spits? Aerials and antennae are a bit confusing I must admit many pictures are not clear enough thanks again for sharing! Nick
Miracle Paint Masks Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 Thanks everyone Nick, that is news to me? The IFF fit did change, but with the comprehensive plotting organisation used during the battle, it would have been pretty useless if the "plots" couldn't be identified; hence the reason for the IFF antenna?
