Amazing toys, that Chevy pick up looks immaculate . Also, what is in the bucket, a list ? :)

That 58 Chevrolet Apache was absolutely amazing.  As was the little green pickup.

And that black and white 56 Ford Sunliner convertible, that black and white paint did it absolutely NO favors at all.   Any color, as long as it's NOT black.

If you have to ask what's in the bucket.......   heheheeeeeeeee

Hmm. This IS a daily site, so I’ll be have, as I need to do given my apparent lofty title here, BUT, I’ll state the obvious in saying that sometimes, there is no truth in advertising.  That south end looks suspiciously swollen to me. A closer inspection by those more qualified may be in order.

Next week we have a crew coming to insulate our metal barn out back, so we rented a shipping container and have some guys here working to move stuff out of garage into the box.

Along with a ton of old Harley and Indian stuff, I uncovered this….  A 58 Fairlane 500 Skyliner retractable hardtop.  Probably the ugliest Ford ever made, but it’s a real running machine. Took it down the Highway at 120 and it didn’t even break a sweat.  The roof cycles perfectly, and the cas full power everything. So I have what I need and I’ll fix the old Ford up.  It’s 100% rust free, despite its 17 different color scheme.

The fi I shed car is something I can e vision.

Sweet project Ernie. I am amazed by the curved windshield , so much soul went to its development .

Martin, the 58 Ford has to be the absolute ugliest Ford produced in the 50s.  I think I bought this for about a hundred bucks back a few years ago.  It takes a lot of vision to see anything but the world’s ugliest sculpture here.

But the 1950s Ford retractable hardtop system has always fascinated me.  It’s all mechanical. No hydraulics.  Screw jacks,  flexible driveshafts, limit switches, solenoids, and about a half mile of wiring.

Choppa building in progress.

Lots of work getting done as preliminarywiring is laid out , this will be a completley fabbed harness using stock Harley wiring components with custom parts.

Get it all mounted and start wiring!

Under seat wiring begins to look better as layout continues.

Thanks.

Here is one of the coolest custom tricks I learned in the chopper shop;

During the frame layout brackets etc , brake lines and wiring is also considered.

With enough experience it is possible to visualize different scenarios. The frame wrapped with tie wraps to hold everything is bush league , like a series of wraps along a frame rail , maximum ugliness.

So small clips are migged on on the underside of the tube to guide and secure the wiring:

So from the usual viewing angle the tube remains clean and the wiring is secured.

Sacrificial yellow tie wraps for initial installation , to be replaced with black during final finishing.
