JohnB Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 I am considering doing a FAA Corsair at some point but I have one question: Has anyone provided the clipped wingtips necessary for a FAA bird? Thanks in advance.
DocRob Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Hi John, my brain didn't fool me with this one. There was a recent build here by BarryWilliams. https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/5328-faa-corsair-ii/?tab=comments#comment-67325 Cheers Rob 2
JohnB Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 He did a outstanding job. As I'm lazy I'd prefer to have some ready-made tips and not have to do all the cutting, etc. However, if push comes to shove I guess I'd have to if I want a FAA a/c. 1
harv Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 IIRC the Revell had both wing tips. But I could be wrong. ....harv
Bill_S Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 1 minute ago, harv said: IIRC the Revell had both wing tips. But I could be wrong. ....harv Revell did not have both, Harv. What they DID do was a separate boxing of the Royal Navy Corsair. That boxing had wings that were clipped. 2
harv Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Hmmm, I know I had a kit that came with both but can't recall what it was.....harv
1to1scale Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 John, I seem to remember one of the decal sets out there has instructions on clipping the tips. For the life of me, I can’t remember which one. 1
JohnB Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 I'm in no big hurry but it would be nice to know some are available somewhere. 1
1to1scale Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 john, it’s in this book... http://www.hyperscale.com/2015/reviews/books/f4u1vol2bellbookreviewse_1.htm 4
JohnB Posted December 1, 2018 Author Posted December 1, 2018 Thanks for that! Should be very useful when the time comes. PS: As sometimes happens I have that book and just didn't realize that diagram was in it. DUH!!! 2
Administrators Clunkmeister Posted January 3, 2019 Administrators Posted January 3, 2019 Gotta love the FAA Corsair. They were flying them off carriers years before we figured it out. When there’s a will, there’s a way.... Those clipped wings sure didn’t hurt performance at all... 1
Wingco57 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 John, It's no big deal to saw off the tips and clean them up. Matter of minutes. Try it, you will surprise yourself. Cees 2
