Great to see her buttoned up, Carl!  Always a big step ahead once done.  I'm not a big fan of Mr. Surfacer for a filler.  It always seems to shrink a lot just where I don't want it to.  But for giving that rough cast armor appearance, it's tops.

Yup, getting the fuselage closed is always a big step.

Mr Surfacer definitely does shrink a bit but oddly enough it the only filler I have around. So hopefully it won't require too much filling and refilling.

Good to see your Hind developing so well. I don't like these gap surprises with kits, at least not by that much. You seemed to have that solved and closing her up is always a great step.

Cheers Rob

Nasty gap for sure , Hopefully from now on it will be smooth sailing. If I may, that brown padding on the seats is highly unusual for Soviet era chopper. 37953156-close-up-of-some-instruments-in

here is a click of mi-35, still black.

Thanks Rob! The gap was probably brought about because the one fuselage was cracked along the bottom. This pushed everything out of whack so I was mostly concerned with getting a decent fit along the upper side.

Great pics Martin. Too late on the seats unfortunately. Guess I should have looked at some of the other pics you posted earlier a bit closer.

Sorry buddy, I missed out.  :(

Not your fault. I took a bit of artistic license on the seats, ok maybe a lot. Just was fed up with the PE and wanted to make some progress.

I got the bottom seam filled and leveled.

You might be able to see the stress marks on the fuselage from the warping. There was also the crack to fix so they're all done now.

I next started on installing the engine covers. For once, the panels fit fine in the closed position.

Now to do a re-scribe and it'll be time to add the smaller details.

Ok, time for a long overdue update on this build.

The Part PE set for the cockpit was wearing me down. There was just way too many, well, parts to deal with. So after not wanting to work on the kit for a couple weeks, I decided some retail therapy was in order and bought the Eduard PE set to use instead.

Once that arrived, I got back to work on the cockpit.

I had to repaint the sidewalls to try and more closely match the prepainted Eduard stuff.

I used the included seatbelts which were printed on both sides.

Their mounting may not be 100% accurate but I decided to just keep it simple and thereby keep me sane.

She may be a bit too clean but it is a show bird after all.

Looks like I built it, approved.

Thanks guys for checking in. I thought I'd lost a couple bits but it turned out they were still on the sprues.:wallbash:

So it's the start of the summer break for my boys. I might have some more time at the bench but probably not. We'll see.

One of the "missing" bits was the round dome on the intake. Once it was found, I installed both onto the fuselage.

At this point I was checking the fit of the canopy and pilot's door. I decided to glue the door on first so that I could make sure it was flush with the fuselage.

The canopy itself is nice and clear but needed a mould seam sanded off.

Upon test fitting the gunner's canopy, I noticed a slight warp affecting the fit. As a result, I glued one side on and let it dry before doing the other.

I need to add the interior mirrors next and then I can get the canopy in place.

The canopy is on the fuselage now. I had a slight misalignment issue with the canopy from side to side. The coaming I made for the pilot's IP was a bit too big and was pushing the canopy to one side. I sanded it down as much as I dared and then glued one side of the canopy on and then the other.

I still had a small gap in places so I filled it with melted sprue. I had to be careful not to get it on the clear parts.

Scaring work with these canopies, but it seems you have saved everything. Is there a reason, why you haven't masked the canopy before assembly? It would have made working with them a little less stressing.

Cheers Rob
