CF-104D Triple Sick

Martin, it's always a pleasure to return the favour and help you out.  

Very brief update. I have the PE floor added to the single seater so it's about ready for a coat of paint. 

I'm going to temporarily put the kits away as I'm going to redo my bench over the next couple of days. Hopefully things will be better organized once I'm done.

I have a TF-104 as well... Which I intend to do as a CF-104D. I got the Brassin C2 seats, and Reskit wheels and exhaust and Leading Edge Decals... I may have to do that one next...

That just about matches my setup. Hope to see you start on yours soon. Any idea on what plane you're going to do?

I'm continuing the work on the cockpit. The tubs are more or less done. Just need to add the belts to the seats. 

About the belts, Eduard did them using a similar process as Quinta Studio does their cockpit sets. 

Except they've stuck with PE buckles. So think of an HGW belt set but even more fiddly. 

After an hour's work, I've got one set of shoulder belts done.

Nice progress on the Front Office Tub. I've become a huge fan of Quinta Decals Sets and love their seatbelt sets as well. Kits World offers their 3D resin seatbelt sets, which are very similar to Quinta's and I'm planning on using them on the Whirlwind. Always a treat to have new products to use that work so well and make life a lot easier.

Peter, I've found the Kits World versions to be much simpler and less detailed than the Quinta ones. Likewise, they seemed a bit thicker too. This is based on having only used one set of each brand. The Eduard ones I'm using are from 2014 so I think they even predate the Quinta stuff. They're very thin and flexible which is good in some ways.

I got the lap belts on the first seat done. 

There's some spaghetti straps, not really sure what to call them that go on the seat back. I've started those and the first couple belts on the second seat. 

Slow work that's for sure.

the spaghetti straps are there to wrap around the arms to prevent flailing. the two levers at the bottom sides of the seat swing forward. they are either red, or red and white depending on the era.

I haven't decided yet which one, but a camo one for sure.

Nice work on the seats with the belts - they sure are looking mighty good. For the money, the Quinta seatbelts that come with their cockpit sets are fantastic - just wish they would sell them separately and offer other seatbelts sets that aren't offered with their cockpit sets.

Yup, I feel as you, that the Kit Worlds seatbelts for the Whirlwind are a bit thin and simplified but they only game in town.   

Are the side console panels Eduard PE? After using the Quinta sets of late, I'm getting spoiled.

Thanks Peter. The cockpit side panels and IP are from Eduard. Their older PE ones instead of the newer pre-coloured resin versions.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought they might be for holding the pilot's arms in place but wasn't sure.

I've got the rear cockpit done all done now. 

Onto the straps for the pilot's seat.

Seatbelts and harnesses are looking mighty good - nice and busy.

And the belts are finally done on both seats. Which means the cockpit tubs are both down so I glued them together into a single unit. 

I started on the gear bays, the nose one is different from the single seater so no point in using the Aires set. 

I assembled the MLG bay but decided to switch tactics and not install the legs. I figure this way I won't snap them off before I'm done. 

With a slight change to the centre beam, I can install the legs afterwards.

I filled a couple ejector pin marks in the cockpit and once dry, I'll get a coat of paint on. 

Lastly, I painted the intake trunking. For some reason, Italeri only include the intake trunks from aft of the MLG bay and not forward of it. So it's a bit...odd once you install it.

And speaking of which, I got the cockpit tubs glued in place. I then added the engine and intake trunks.

Time to close her up.

The pit and the main LGB are looking great.

The 104 is one of my favorites and I love the sleek look of the fuselage. 
First big step is completed Carl.

Thanks for all the encouragement folks. Keeps me at the bench when I have the time. 

I added the remaining panels to the fuselage. There's a couple of them as well as the air brakes. Most fit well enough and I didn't use any shims although the air brakes maybe could have used a very thin one. I'm doing everything closed up so as not to spoil the lines of the plane.
