PeteF
A couple of years ago I built a 1/24 Mosquito that I documented on the forum. A lot has happened in those two years but one of the things was purchasing a 1959 Daimler Ferret AFV. It's currently getting a mechanical service in Texas and I thought I'd build a model for the shop that I purchased it from and whose doing all the work. I've never done a resin kit before but read up on it and this seems to be a very nice kit. 5
PeteF
This kit has relatively simple sub components with a ton of fiddly little bits. For some reason the front steering is held together with tiny photo-etched nuts. I gave up after about three of them because I realized there was nothing connecting the two front wheels so no matter what, the steering was going to be fixed. I am finding building with epoxy and/or CA to not be much fun. My ability to bend and make exactly even hooks plays to my primary weakness as a modeler. I don't have the patience to get tiny fiddly bits perfect. 4
PeteF
The rear suspension is build the same as the front...so it's "steerable" which means carefully figuring out the angle to make it NOT steerable (rear wheels on Ferrets are not steerable). Kit includes brass wire to make hooks and stuff. 7
PeteF
I was getting annoyed with assembly so decided to put together the wheels and paint them. I have been extremely careful to clean the parts using an electronic toothbrush and soapy water.

Yes, it's already pretty weathered so the model can be too We found out the code numbers on it are not the correct ones (the correct ones are 07 CC 31). It was a combat veteran from Borneo. 7
BlrwestSiR
Cool project. Both the 1/24 and the 1/1. RP Tools makes a jig that helps you bend wire into matching handles. Might be worth checking out. Carl

PeteF
Tackled the tiny handles and some other fiddly bits. Took me about 10 of those handles to get the feel of it. Very cleverly etched so they’d fold nicely but trying to hold them and glue them got a bit messy. Added headlight wiring and the wire for the smoke grenade launcher. Wing mirrors were also cleverly set up. A tiny drill was a must have for this kit.
PeteF
A lot of fiddle little parts and decals later and the interior is done.
PeteF
Working on the motor. Test fit then grimed and weathered.
HubertB
Cool car in 1:1. I always wished I had something like this ( or maybe slightly heavier like a Leclerc, Abrams or Leopard ) to hold at bay those pesky two-wheelers in Paris traffic ... As this would not be allowed ( did I fantasize about the squiiishhh of one or two Vespas under the tracks ! ), I have resolved to plan B, i.e. avoid driving in and around Paris Very nice work on the kit, btw Hubert 2

PeteF
Hinged engine covers. The entire cupola and engine doghouse are removable so I’ve been working on fit.
PeteF
Still chipping away at little bits and bobs. Getting there. The black on the turret is covering some body work I had to do due to some careless filing.

PeteF
Got the camo on and most of it built (turret and wheels are loose fitted here). Now comes a ton of weathering. 5
GusMac
Looks great Pete. Nice subject which is that bit different from the usual armour builds you see.
PeteF
Thanks. It’s interesting to explore the vehicle in 3D. I’ve never built an armor model or a resin model. This is a top notch kit that is a bit above my ability for building tiny bits without getting glue everywhere. I’d recommend any of their kits. I’m now into the fiddly painting where I’m more comfortable.
DocRob
Your Ferret looks astonishing small compared with these Vallejo bottles, given the scale, the grade of detail is jaw dropping though. The interior looks lived in realistic and I like all the tiny bits and pieces on the body. A great build of a seemingly not too easy kit. Cheers Rob
PeteF
The photo is a bit deceptive. The real Ferret is about the size of a regular car so the model is “small” but the scale is large. It’s about 6” long.
