KGr100 He111 - help interpreting these pictures please
nmayhew replied to nmayhew's topic in Modelling Discussion
hi Steve thanks for the reply! First up, if you have any interest in early war Luftwaffe then the Luftwaffe Crash Archive series is a must Next, i forgot to mention: a feature of these x-gerat machines is the removal of the B-stand gun; to stop the gunner shooting away the extra aerials apparently! the supersize Balkenkreuz are as a result of either a misinterpreted order for large markings underneath to help Flak recognition, or to help recognition by fighters when ferrying over friendly territory - I am sure I have read this but cannot remember where, or which one! Either would make sense. if anyone has any other pics of the supersize Balkenkreuz machines, I would be very interested to see the first part of the code is def 6N+...which also matches KGr100 machines pre-April 1940, or indeed any time 1940 eliminates a H-6 I believe; this corroborates with the cut back cowls which i have only seen on H-1 to H-3, or at least those labelled as such this is in turn corroborates with a solid C-stand front - this part is absolutely key I cannot tell you how limiting Revell's choice in this regard makes things: early Ps and Hs without the glazing are exceedingly hard to pin down; and the glazing on the H-6 is completely different in shape I tried to persuade A2zee Models to make this corrected glazing, as well as corrected A-stand nose cones, and proper PVC & ETC racks, but ultimately they declined. But I digress... seems the second one might be 6N+DL...I am just having a nose around this website - will take a while though http://www.ghostbombers.com/1940/KG100/kg100_4.html as to the last one, I am also doing some digging over at LEMB - did you realise that place is shutting down? such a shame thanks again for your input cheers Nick -
Hi guys Just wondered if you could help with these pics of KGr100 He111s please? This was a pathfinding unit equipped with x-gerat if you are wondering what the extra aerials are. First one... - supposedly 6N+EK; definitely 6N+...but is it EK? any colours to these or all black? - based in Vannes (France?) - definitely an early H - note the cut back intakes on the starboard cowling; looks like solid front C-stand ie unmodified, no glazing / forward facing MG - do you agree? - camo colours: blue underside given light shade of C-stand, with regular 70/71 splinter? - supersized Balkenkreuz: white outline only, or filled with black? second one... - 6N+D?....K I presume? - D would be in red, as would the spinners by my reckoning (2 Staffel, I Gruppe if last digit is indeed a K right?); what colour the Ds on the wings? - another early H, with solid front C-stand - not sure about cowls this time, as the wrong side is shown; tube exhausts though - camo: blue undersides, regular splinter and last one... not sure about the codes, or whether it is the same aircraft as in the last pic of Falke Eins' blog, but what makes it really interesting is the two different exhaust types - never seen that before! here is the link to the blog, which also has a clear-ish pic of 6N+IK http://falkeeins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/heinkel-he-111-kgr-100-junkers-ju-87-d.html anyway, i'd be interested to see what the Experten make of these! cheers Nick

Fair comment about their wing structures etc, which I know to be the case for their P-51; I would assume due to limitations in technology that this be the same with their other releases I have no knowledge or interest in the Skyraider or Eggplane (sorry, Raiden / Jack!

Fantastic news!

ha ha - midget RAF personnel! Maybe they are scaled down too?

hmmm well i was about to have an anti Profimodeller rant when i tried to look at some references Wikipedia (don't laugh) says these things were 140cm in real life, which makes them 58mm in 1/24 so who is right?? personally, i don't trust any of these three at this point, and will wait for someone who is close to a museum or has pictures of one being measured to see what size these things should be also: The rocket body was a steel tube 3 inches (76 mm) in diameter, hence the name. this translates as 3.16mm in 1/24...so how does that measure up? either way, not touching these at the moment the benchmark for how this kit is ***perceived*** will be whether the big guns of Eduard make anything for it, and whether the very picky about what kits he makes stuff for Roy Sutherland get involved... cheers N

i really fancy this kit my only qualm is the wheel wells utterly devoid of detail - they look like a 1/72 kit i don't have any references either way, but have to think there should be *something* in there i want to build one of these as a favourite pilot of mine, Neville Duke, 'crossed swords' with quite a few of these over the African desert looking forward to seeing more progress pics what scheme are you doing? thanks for sharing- 12 replies

welcome to LSM interesting comments not that i disbelieve you, but rather to show us what you mean, can you provide images of what you describe? quoting books when challenging something rather than showing also seems a little 'unsporting' as to 'any good internet walkaround', well that's half the problem isn't it? most walkarounds are of either warbirds or - forgive me for taking your name in vain - 'Frankenschmitts' with various parts from different aircraft, often matched inappropriately btw i have no affiliation with Roy, but having reviewed lots of his stuff, I know that the vast majority is well researched and accurate, hence my default setting with his stuff would be 'show me' / prove otherwise cheers nick

Nige I had a look at my kit and couldn't see anything, but I'd like to make sure Can you post a picture of what you mean, or perhaps easier just tell me the part number(s) affected? Cheers Nick

Revell Spitfire Mk I, II or V
nmayhew replied to Wingco57's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
DW-Q is in the Eagle Cals set, rather than DW-K http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/EAG32157 haven't done too much research on that one, but the undersides are black / sky i think (not white), with no underwing roundels could be wrong though, and I don't have the EagleCals set usual 'defer to Edgar' rider etc etc! -
Generally speaking, I think Eduard did some / do some, and maybe Montex? I am not sure whether specifically for this kit, but they would be a good a place to start

nice one Dave - they should give you a discount Doogs - that's precisely what I mean, and that's without talking about their resin sets, many of which I just cannot fathom

Hawker Typhoon 1/24 "Pulverizer IV"
nmayhew replied to Trigger's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
beautiful stuff Frank! am i right in thinking some Typhoons had unshrouded cannons - or am i thinking of a different aircraft altogether? if so, i hope Master do some more appropriate barrels but your use of them is excellent - good call -
ok they are £27 from Hannants (plus shipping) price is £20ish from Profi direct - who I assume have them in stock whilst Hannants do not - but I have no idea what shipping and taxes are i would post a direct url link pic but Profi have disabled that, and I cannot be ar$ed to do the whole photobucket thing you would think that they would just water mark the pic, and be glad that people want to advertise their stuff for free? they also do not have an instruction booklet link, so I am definitely going to sit and wait still, at a glance from a pic, they do look nice just waiting on wheels, and maybe some resin bits for the cockpit perhaps

With some of the dubious reviews I have seen about Profimodeller stuff, as much as I want these, I will wait for someone to 'do the honours'... How much are they btw?
-
strange markings (any 109 not in Luftwaffe garb is strange in my book!), but beautiful finish what a shame you guys didn't get round to finishing this still, what you have done combined with the review tells most people more than enough I reckon bookmarked for when I get round to building one of these cheers guys

looking very good - and yes it does look massive!

what a fantastic job beautiful airplane, beautiful build -
Great pick ups guys Rick: I doubt you'll be seeing any aftermarket for the 410, or any other HPH kits for that matter Just no money in it with such a minuscule production run
