President of Zukei Mura announces...
Clunkmeister replied to MARU 5137's topic in General Discussion
I’ve grown stale on WW2 Luftwaffe stuff, simply because everybody does them. If I’m going to build WW2 Luftwaffe, I want something unique and different. The A-3/4 190 might be that model. But a new 109 to me is a yawner, although I get it, it’s easily the most popular WW2 aircraft subject ever kitted. The HS.129 is a cool kit for me, as is their Ki-45. Unique and different. -

Well, we’ll find out quick enough here. I think a darker wash will help it immensely. -

Hearing horrific stories like that curdle my blood. But the build itself is absolutely breathtaking, sir! -

Very nicely done. That’s an aircraft that never interested me much at all, however if a Spey powered version happened by, I’d be all over it. -
They did serve in a solid grey as well. But when someone thinks Viggen, it’s always that splinter scheme that comes to mind.

Well, my camera isn’t showing what I want it to show, the lighter shades are showing as almost white in the pics, but in person, this looks very convincing. I’m pretty happy with the general shading I’ve done, did a light mist over everything to tie it all together and will now give it a bit of darker areas around the engine, bearing in mind that this aircraft is still pretty new. I did try to add definition and slight shading to the fabric control surfaces My big bugaboo has always been trying to add character to a solid color model. Truth be told, I pretty much suck at it, and that may explain that, given everything equal, I much prefer to model in NMF. So maybe another light mist followed by a light panel wash I think I’ll better define some of my rivets as well, although I live in fear of discovering my inner Mad Riveter. This will have the candy striped tail and the oversized star roundels with meatball centers. This has been a really fun build so far and Im thoroughly enjoying it. Resin style challenges without the dust.- 116 replies

Yeah, this may be an all hands on deck bench clearer. I’m finishing up three Mustangs and a Buffalo as we speak, so…. I ordered the DM Models splinter masks as well. I thought I’d be unique, but great minds think alike. We’ll have a squadron of multi green Viggens.

Peter, I have a few packages of the HPH epoxy, simply because await seems I’m always building one of their kits. That stuff is duper hard to get in the US due to labeling, etc. I talked to Mirek and once convinced him to send me a few sets, but that was a number of years back. I see Greg Cooper quite a bit and he is a pretty big importer of HPH, and he’s snuck glue in for me as well, stashed in a kit. Not bad that way because it’s not for retail sale. FYI, I do have it on good authority that JetMads does intend on producing a 1/32 CF-100 Canuck as well. It is scheduled 4-5 projects down. THAT will be one for the ages, and along with an F-89, will complete my 1950s interceptor collection.

My order is 10722. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long, long time. Anyone else getting a Viggen? ordering from these guys takes patience, because you need to keep watch on your email. You reserve months in advance, then preorder for a discount. If you’re like me and get sidetracked, you can miss the 30 day preorder discount period. From the limited number of pics up online, this kit looks stunning

Another Member had put this in the wrong place so I moved it here. I never knew this, but it makes sense. The P-51B wing ammo lockers are quite a bit smaller than the P-51D. I guess that makes perfect sends being that the B only had 4 guns compared to the D’s 6. The things you learn around here…. Thanks Antonio.

This is actually a sweet little kit. Not anywhere near as bad as some modeling doomsayers have said it was. If you can build resin you’ll breeze through this like it’s snap together. But like most kits these days, settle on a subject before you start building, and stick to that one. Don’t change. I did, and I had to go back and redo my engine. -

I actually managed to modify the solid windscreen without cracking it. No pics because it’s masked and enjoying a coat of RLM66. -

Oh awesome Martin. You’re doing the slightly different Finnish version. Should be OH SO COOL. I actually like the style of the export cowl more than the US Navy -2 version. -
That Hurricane is insane. And the B Model Mustangs! Good to see those getting built and flown. Not too ma y years ago they were all but extinct. That A400M is crazy cool as well. A bit smaller than a C-17, but bigger than a Herc.

Peter, I’m gonna attempt it, maybe first start with a heated up sewing needle? Or just go bigger and bigger with the drill bits -

Aaand then we find this! A bit of a disaster. Sometime between now and then, a massive crack appeared, dead center in the windscreen. There’s no fixing that, so we use find a different windscreen. The kit comes with both styles of windscreen: with or without the telescopic gunsight. So without buying another kit, the only option is to use the later style windscreen. -

A bit of picking away at it today. I had to use a bit of card stock to close some joint gaps. Typical short run. The turtleneck required some careful fitting, trimming, and shimming with card stock. Quite simple actually, but it took a bit of time to get it right. It was narrow OOB, but a few shims fixed that. So far it looks decent enough. Sorry for the washed out look in the cockpit Plenty of glare from the lights. -

That build on the Czech modelers forum is the gold standard. What an insane build. I had to read S L O W L Y, but I figured it out. Stunning work. I have the Yellow Wings decal set for this as well, and although I really wanted to do an early war blue/grey striped tail crate, I’m now leaning towards the classic yellow wings scheme. -

Anyone having a Buffalo sitting on the SOD, grab it and let’s finish them.
