F4U-1A Corsair Tamiya 1/32
belugawhaleman replied to DocRob's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Those Tamiya Corsairs look like great kits, and you're doing a great job with your build. Nice work! I'll be following. -
That must be frustrating as hell! Imagine paying a lot for a kit and having those problems with bad fit! Never with Tamiya!

Yes, i remember the kit. Pretty good as I remember.... Of course, all my models were Thrown out after I retuned to college.... Why, I don't know why.....I returned... And they Were gone....crap! Yours, very nice! -
Yes! It's great stuff, as now I discovered.

Is that the 1/32 kit. I made that kit around 1984 while recovering from back surgery. -
The other day my brother unexpectedly bought me a jar of Kimchi after going to a Korean market. I've since discovered I love the stuff! I now have a one gallon jar of it in my fridge and will probably finish it in no time. Anyway, I'm wondering.... Does anyone else on this forum eat this?

Great work! Very realistic rendering oft the weathered nmf...impressive as well as the good information and techniques you share...thanks. I've been looking the MRP product range, although seemingly expensive they do offer some advantages..... They look like they have an impressive range of colors. I have some British subjects coming up and while considering mixing the colors myself, I'm thinking now of going with the MRP paints....I've used their German red primer..and liked it. It looks like decals would go on easily over these paints without a gloss coat.....that would be a plus. Thanks for posting....Enjoying this thread. Paul.

This came today.......Tamiya's M561 U.S. 6x6 Cargo Truck Gama Goat (35330). This was a 6 wheel drive articulated vehicle. What looks like a trailer is actually connected by a universal type joint and was permanent part of the vehicle. These were used from 1968 and into the '80's. Apparently, they were plagued with maintenance issues, were noisy, and slow.....So, not a big success. Anyway, an interesting vehicle.. And a nice kit and looks like interesting build.

Working on a Tamiya M51 Israeli Sherman..... Had a misshap last night... Broke off the right tail light and had to search for it for a long time before finding it and managing to glue it back in place..major headache. Otherwise no other problems. The fit has been very good with this kit. I've left off the suspension units to facilitate painting later of the tires and return rollers....I'll mask the areas where these glue on when painting to get a good bond when attaching these later. Still have a ways to go..... -
Another kit from Tamiya came today; This time their BRITISH TANK DESTROYER M10 IIC ACHILLES (35366) This was the American M10 modified to take the British 17 pounder gun. One thing I didn't know about these was that they were powered by a General Motors 6046 which was a twin-engined powerplant made up of two Detroit Diesel 6-71 Inline 6 cylinder two-stroke engines. It was possible two run these engines independently, if needed......strange. Later versions of the M10 used the same V 8 engines as used in the later Sherman tanks. I looks like a decent kit and likely a fun build. There's some nice cast metal texture on some of the parts, including; the transmission cover, gun mantlet, and turret counterweights.

Oh, it makes me sad....so old...so little opportunities..... Like Marley's ghost.......

The eclipse is a great 'brush...I have several of them, some over 20 years old... ..pull the needle from the front...easier to do that way. A couple of years ago I Rebuilt them by purchasing new parts where needed....easy to do and really...not too cost prohibitive. I now have essentially new eclipse airbrushes. I've since moved on ..a..little bit to Iwata's "better" airbrushes... My skills probably haven't improved, but I decided to make the move......Iwata makes great products... And I'll remain very loyal to the brand.

Jeeezzz, John you're a Mustang building machine! I can hardly keep up! Anyway, great to see you're on another project. At this pace, there'll soon be a shortage of 1/32 scale Mustangs.....unless, that is, you have a massive cache of them! Oh, you know I'll be watching! -
Had a bike just like that....and my friends and I made a ramp and jumped just the same. Brings back memories, ......cool time it was, the seventies! My bike was metallic blue with the white sparkle banana seat.....

Hey, nice work, and grateful for the info...looking forward to the rest of your build. Thanks; Paul -
I have three Paasche H's , one for each nozzle size. A very useful 'brush! Great for flat & clear coating, base coating, putting on primer and most likely, the airbrush I'll use for painting the Tamiya Monkey I recently purchased. A great, simple, design that's been around for decades.....and for good reason! As for cleaning, I've been using Tamiya's airbrush cleaner.....O.K. It's probably repurposed glue, but it works! Drop some in your airbrush's color cup, swish a bit with a large, soft paint brush, spray at high air pressure until the cup is empty....... and hey presto....you're ready for the next color! Works for me! Anyway, about the ultrasonic cleaner...probably not necessary, but hey, an excuse for a new gadget....always cool. Incidentally, I've found that those little dental brushes work well for cleaning my Iwata hi-line Hp-bh airbrush. After removing the frightfully tiny nozzle, I use one of these brushes with a little Tamiya airbrush cleaner to clean the tube the nozzle screws into....works a treat! Needless to say I use 3.5 magnification eye ware headset to do this.....that damn nozzle... It's tiny!

I had a look at MRP lacquers....interesting colors available. They had the exact matches for a project I needed but I decided they were too costly and I'm going to mix the colors from my stock of Tamiya acrylic paints. Anyway, interesting idea you have.
