Hasegawa F-104 finished
JohnB replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Thank you Harv. -
It's just something to do between "real builds" Peter. LOL As you know I like to keep SOMETHING on the bench. I wish the kit had had folding wings and dropped flaps as that would make it's "realism" a lot better.

Hasegawa F-104 finished
JohnB replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/32 and Larger Aircraft Ready for Inspection
Thank you, I appreciate that. I'm pleased with the final result but there was a time I didn't think I would get it finished! -
This model has been sitting on one of my shelves gathering dust for quite a while. I have decided to do a bit of re-work/re-paint. I want to depict it as sitting derelict as seen in these photos. I don't plan to do a LOT to it except add the under wing racks and do some re-painting, etc to make it look neglected but not in a advanced state. I would like to fold the wings but I don't think I'll take it that far. Just a little "project" I've been thinking about for a while.

Thank you Mike. I had to take a break from it for a bit but decided to go on and finish it. I'm glad I did as I really like the way it turned out. 😀 -

Thanks Rob! I think the 104 is just made to be in NMF. Very attractive in my opinion too! -

Thank you Gaz! I appreciate the nice comments and I'm pleased you like the 104. -
Yes, I know how it can be Peter. Frustration and aggravation! Been there, done that as they say.

Thank you Peter. I'm happy with the results even if they aren't 100% on the mark. -

Thank you Carl. I was so disgusted with all the peel off problems I had intended for it to be a near permanent resident there! LOL But I'm glad I changed my mind as I think it turned out okay. Certainly not a contest worthy model but okay for my shelves. -

Thanks Jerry! Saved from the SOD. I'll have to get some Alclad polished aluminum. It would have looked good on this model. -
All done with this one! https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/18704-hasegawa-f-104-finished/

I'm calling this one done. After all the paint peel off problems I'm fairly happy with the way it finally turned out. After market items are a AMS cockpit and seat plus a exhaust cone. As this kit is a G/S it did not come with any US national markings so I had to scrounge what was needed from my decal stash. Luckily I had all the one's that I needed. I re-primed the model with Testor's gloss white which worked well with the Alclad aluminum, etc after the bad peel off with the Alclad gray primer. THAT nearly sent the model to the SOD! LOL 😄 I'm glad I could "save" the build although there are still a couple of areas where some residuals show through. I just decided to live with it. I hope y'all like the model!

I'm using the tip tanks as they seem to just look good on the a/c. LOL

I was wondering as getting those together was a "adventure". LOL

This was the first time it peeled like this. I think it was due to the primer and plastic not "bonding" well as the peel off was the Alclad gray primer and micro filler with the Alclad aluminum on top. When I got all that removed and sprayed the model with Testor's gloss white as a primer then sprayed more Alclad aluminum over that I had no more problem. I don't know why the Alclad primer and micro filler didn't work well with the Hasegawa plastic unless it had something to do with the age of the kit. I've never had much problem with Alclad peeling off either. 😕

Thanks Gaz. I just didn't want to put the "winders" on it.

Hey Carl. Did you have any trouble with the interior canopy parts? They gave me fits! I finally got them installed thanks to regular cement, CA glue and CA Kicker. They still aren't "right" but that's the way it is. Too bad they can't hear what I was saying to them!!! LOL😄

Thanks Carl. I'm hoping to finish it today so we will see.
-
Thanks Peter. Decaling has been completed so now I'll do the rest of the build (canopy, gear, etc). Just might have it finished later today!

I'm glad I could save the build but it was mighty "iffy" at one point 😄. Thanks!!!
