Fisher Twogar back on the bench
JohnB replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
In my VERY humble opinion that is a risky undertaking. However, give it a try and let's see what happens.........😎 -
I know where you are coming from Scott! I suffered with sciatica for several years until I finally had surgery 10 years ago. Worked out well for years but now I've started having problems again. I think something has "slipped" so now I have to watch what I do such as lifting, etc. NOT going to go under the knife again if I can help it. Here's a visual aid showing my implanted "titanium hardware".

Thanks Scott! It was about the only thing I could come up with to fix it. Kinda risky and drastic but it got the job done. LOL -

Thanks Bill. I always try to keep SOMETHING on the bench. The drawback is they multiply like rabbits!!!!! LOL -

Here's a couple of shots to show the cut on top of the wing. I slid in a short strip of thin plastic in to give the putty some help There's one on the underside also but I figure you get the idea. The angle is just about right now. I'll finish sanding and smoothing it out this evening. -

Good luck fixing that Carl. Maybe a couple pieces of thin plastic stock will work using the unbroken one as a guide. 🤞 -

Me either Mike!🤪 I got the wing re positioned okay. I slipped a couple of this pieces of strip plastic in the cuts then CA glued 'em. After that was dry I applied a coat of white putty and now I'm waiting for that to dry enough to sand. -

One of the intakes on mine was broken off but I can CA it back on. I wrapped some card around both so I don't accidentally break them while doing the "surgery". 🙄 -
I have tried to get this one done a couple of times but have never been able to correct the wing droop. The left wing isn't too bad and I can live with that but the right wing has a noticeable droop. Not much but enough that I see it and want to fix it. I've tried hot water, hair dryer, etc with no luck. The resin is just too thick. So now I'm gonna get really serious about it! LOL Surgery is called for! I will make shallow cuts where the wing attaches to the intakes and try to raise the wing just enough to correct it. Then lay in a strip of sheet plastic to keep it situated and then apply CA glue along the cut/sheet plastic. That should give me a corrected wing angle (I HOPE). I don't want to cut the wing off as I think it can be corrected without that. We will see.🤪

Thanks Peter. Since the model was already built etc, it was easy peasy just to do some "re-decorating" and a little modifying. Certainly not like building a kit from scratch.

Finished up this one! https://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/18715-hasegawa-corsair-re-do-done/

This didn't take long! I stopped before I risked overdoing it and while I was liking the results. It's easy to over-do weathering. I depicted it before it had been out in the elements too long. I added the rocket rails from my stash of left-overs. Photos taken at later stages show it in pretty sad condition but to depict that I would need to fold the wings and drop the flaps which would be too much of a chore. 😎 Happily this bird has been restored and is a museum in, I think, Florida. At any rate, this was just a little "project" I wanted to do. I hope y'all like it! Remember, click on the 1st photo, etc......

Hasegawa F-104 finished

Thank you Harv. -
It's just something to do between "real builds" Peter. LOL As you know I like to keep SOMETHING on the bench. I wish the kit had had folding wings and dropped flaps as that would make it's "realism" a lot better.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I'm pleased with the final result but there was a time I didn't think I would get it finished! -
This model has been sitting on one of my shelves gathering dust for quite a while. I have decided to do a bit of re-work/re-paint. I want to depict it as sitting derelict as seen in these photos. I don't plan to do a LOT to it except add the under wing racks and do some re-painting, etc to make it look neglected but not in a advanced state. I would like to fold the wings but I don't think I'll take it that far. Just a little "project" I've been thinking about for a while.

Thank you Mike. I had to take a break from it for a bit but decided to go on and finish it. I'm glad I did as I really like the way it turned out. 😀
