John Way too hot for me. I'm a 65-75 F guy, -
Kev Some mighty nice work on the Border Stuka. From what I've seen a followed online, the Stuka is a tremendous kit and a pleasure to build. Thank you for posting the images.

RAF WWII Roundel Colors/paints ... Help needed
Peterpools replied to Peterpools's topic in Modelling Discussion
Carl, thank you for the information and I'm glad I'm heading in the right direction. Looking at the mixes, it seems we only vary with the Roundel Red, where you are using Hull Red XF9 and what I found online was using red Brown XF 64. I'll do some testing but I'm already leaning your way. -
Welcome aboard and enjoy the forum. What a way to break the ice with the incredible Border Lanc. Merlin's look mighty good and the kit details are simply amazing. Will be following with great interest.

Carl Thoroughly enjoying following your progress. Nice to see the engine is in and more work on the interior - the harnesses look so good. -

Thanks Carl, very much appreciated. I finished all the re-do work this afternoon and the Spit should be rolling into the paint shop later this week. The conversion sounds like quite a project and I would be the first one front and center to follow the build. -
Seems figuring out the correct colors and paints for late war RAF WWII Roundels is a lot more complicated then I thought. Paint colors always seem to be that way and no straight and easy answer. My research shows and I'm not sure these paint selections are correct. I would prefer to use MRP Lacquers but have no issues using Tamiya or Mr Color. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Tamiya Acrylics Mr Color Dull Red: 75% Reed XF7 & 25% red brown XF64 .... Mr Color: : C327 Red H327 Blue; 75% Flat Blue XF8 & 25% Flat Black Mr Color: C326 Blue H326 Yellow: 96% yellow XF5 & 5% Flat Red Mr Color: C329 Yellow C329 Research shows the Blue should be BS106

One Month Challenge: COMPLETED
Peterpools replied to GazzaS's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Gaz Terrific progress as the weathering on the Howitzer and rifle stack look so well done. Completely agree that clear flat coats help allow the colors, hues and textures to be more easily seen and appreciated. Nice work on dio base sides as well. Always appreciate adding to the background bio as it brings us closer to the scene being portrayed. -
Scott I use Quinta Decal sets whenever I can. They are amazing.

ZM A-1 Skyraider back on tap!
Peterpools replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
Hi Phil I'm pretty sure the only32nd scale Tamiya kit with folding wings is their Corsair series. But when Tamiya offers the option of closed or open panels, the fit is quite good, especially on their 48th scale F-14's and F4B kits. -
Oliver Amazing work and the level of detail is astonishing. I'm always blown away by your work.

John That's quite a good looking pair and it's easy to see both were built by the same talented builder. -

Kai Amazing progress - just so many individual details and parts you had to orchestrate and come together. Amazing work. And now add in again all the electronics ... a boat load of work successfully accomplished. -

Kai, thank you and so greatly appreciate your very kind words on my builds and photography. I built the Mossie when she first came out and what a tremendous kit. I just wish Papa Tamiya would do the next version but I'm sure cost and sales numbers put a halt on that. The Spit is a joy to build and while one of Tamiya's older 32nd scale WWII fighter lines, just has no vices. Painted the prop, hub assembly and gear this morning, making progress and hoping to do another update later this week. -
Special Hobby Piper L4 OH Moma, a new Piper L4 and I can't wait to get the kit on my bench. Yes, I know it's 48th scale but I do build in that scale as well as 32nd scale for aircraft. Looking back over time, I first soloed a Piper J3 (pretty much a L4 but there are differences) way back in 1965 at Zahns Airport. Other then the rear portion of the green house, which was larger in the L4, pilots could fly it solo from the front seat, as the radio gear weight acted like a rear passenger for the CG. J3 were always flown solo from the rear seat and of course, no radios or even a starter. Just love flying them. Image from Special Hobbies Web Site.

ZM A-1 Skyraider back on tap!
Peterpools replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
John Absolutely all the toy like movable features should have been left off way back in the early 70's at best. Kits with movable parts are more toy like and should be directed at a different market. Glad you have your re-supple of enamels and am going navy. -
ZM A-1 Skyraider back on tap!
Peterpools replied to JohnB's topic in LSM 1/35 and Larger Work In Progress
John So glad to see the Skyraider is back on the bench and you're using all your magical powers to have successfully completed the rescue. Completely agree that the toy like movable parts of a kit is always a problem, for the most part never fit correctly and if they are included: they should actually fit. Another vote that the wing fold should be as Tamiya did with their Corsair - one way or another. Even all the toy like movable control surfaces of the earlier Tamiya and Trumpeter kits have long vanished - an idea and approach that never really worked well. -
Rick Brilliant work - detailing and finish are top notch. Most amazing of all how the Super Tucano made so many trips to and from the SOD, survived.
-
Rick Terrific progress on your Tucano and completely agree all the finicky parts and the fit issues would drive me nuts as well - but so well worth it in the end.

Carl Some mighty nice work on the engine and gear box, looking so good. The details in the kit are quite amazing and a flexible timing chain: outrageous. -

Thanks Phil for the very kind comments on my Spitfire build. Just enjoy presenting build threads this way and I'm very lucky at my stage of the game, I can still paint without shaking too much. -

John Simply stellar build and beautiful in every detail. Just goes to show what can be done with the older kits with some TLC, some AM to do a bit of updating in the detail department and applying our skills of today. Top notch work. What's on board for your next build?
