  1. Kai, thank you and so greatly appreciate your very kind words on my builds and photography. I built the Mossie when she first came out and what a tremendous kit. I just wish Papa Tamiya would do the next version but I'm sure cost and sales numbers put a halt on that. The Spit is a joy to build and while one of Tamiya's older 32nd scale WWII fighter lines, just has no vices. Painted the prop, hub assembly and gear this morning, making progress and hoping to do another update later this week.
  2. Special Hobby Piper L4 OH Moma, a new Piper L4 and I can't wait to get the kit on my bench. Yes, I know it's 48th scale but I do build in that scale as well as 32nd scale for aircraft. Looking back over time, I first soloed a Piper J3 (pretty much a L4 but there are differences) way back in 1965 at Zahns Airport. Other then the rear portion of the green house, which was larger in the L4, pilots could fly it solo from the front seat, as the radio gear weight acted like a rear passenger for the CG. J3 were always flown solo from the rear seat and of course, no radios or even a starter. Just love flying them. Image from Special Hobbies Web Site.
  3. John Absolutely all the toy like movable features should have been left off way back in the early 70's at best. Kits with movable parts are more toy like and should be directed at a different market. Glad you have your re-supple of enamels and am going navy.
  4. John So glad to see the Skyraider is back on the bench and you're using all your magical powers to have successfully completed the rescue. Completely agree that the toy like movable parts of a kit is always a problem, for the most part never fit correctly and if they are included: they should actually fit. Another vote that the wing fold should be as Tamiya did with their Corsair - one way or another. Even all the toy like movable control surfaces of the earlier Tamiya and Trumpeter kits have long vanished - an idea and approach that never really worked well.
  5. Rick Brilliant work - detailing and finish are top notch. Most amazing of all how the Super Tucano made so many trips to and from the SOD, survived.
  6. Rick Terrific progress on your Tucano and completely agree all the finicky parts and the fit issues would drive me nuts as well - but so well worth it in the end.
  7. Carl Some mighty nice work on the engine and gear box, looking so good. The details in the kit are quite amazing and a flexible timing chain: outrageous.
  8. Thanks Phil for the very kind comments on my Spitfire build. Just enjoy presenting build threads this way and I'm very lucky at my stage of the game, I can still paint without shaking too much.
  9. John Simply stellar build and beautiful in every detail. Just goes to show what can be done with the older kits with some TLC, some AM to do a bit of updating in the detail department and applying our skills of today. Top notch work. What's on board for your next build?
  10. John Looking forward to your 'finished' update later today.
  11. Rick Thoroughly enjoying following your progress. Simply stellar work
  12. John Looking mighty good. Paint work and decals are spot on.
  13. Kev Very nice work on the Mustang's NMF ... skin looks perfectly smooth with no imperfections - your follow up prep work with the 6000 worked just fine.
  14. Carl Thank You for the link to the HKM Lanc on sale. I just have no room in my display case any models that large and these days, display space is one of the major factors in deciding whether or not to purchase a particular kit.
  15. A forum build of the Border Lanc would be great and a treat to follow. I wonder how many of our members purchased the kit and are looking forward to building it in the near future.
  16. Gaz Always something newly discover in your builds and the plastic wrap is now added to the list. The diorama clay base as all the beginning elements and the footprints a well defined for naturally blending into the scene and not looking like an addon later on.
  17. Ernie Thank you for your honest and initial opinion of the Border Lanc and comparison to the HKM's kit. I'm not a fan of all the hidden details in any kit, as they just add to the cost for nothing in return when in the display case. Kits with all this detail suffers from a fit issues as a result. ZM comes to mind as I have failed more then once on building their kits do to these issues, most likely my own doing but I would much rather have a kit without all the internal hidden details parts, fits better and of course, cost less as a result.
  18. Rick Just saw your latest update - awesome progress and the armor plates look mighty good. Loadouts, are so well done.
  19. Rick The prep work looks perfect and I fully understand your reasons for deciding to replace the Eduard PE panels with the Archer's Resin Decal Panels - nothing like peace of mind and they do look mighty good. I have to admit I've never seen them used before and from your update, they apply much differently then the Quinta Resin Decals I use. Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated.
  20. Rick Some mighty nice work: details look so good. Nice to see the Super Tucano assembled and moving down the line.
  21. Rick Glad to see the Super Tucano back on the bench again and underway. Incredible work on the loads -
  22. Kev I can see the rough finish in the gloss black base and wet sanding is the surest way to smooth things out - just a lot of work,
  23. Gaz Figures look just fine and add in your time restraints, that's a lot of pressure to finish all the various elements of the diorama. My money is riding on you that you will cross the line in time.
