  1. Mark Looking forward to the start of the build. I normally start a build as you are, sorting through the parts, getting assemblies squared away and cleaning up the parts so when I'm ready to go, a lot of the preliminary work has already been done.
  2. Chris I'm Quinta's number one fan and any work prepping parts is money in the bank. I'm not sure how many pieces I needed to remove the relief from on my Tomcat but once the Quita decals are in place; it's an amazing transformation
  3. Chris Looking good and just take your time. Yup, the F4 is BIG and needs space but well worth the effort.
  4. John Just over the other forum - what a tremendous redo and the Corsair looks awesome. Weathering is light and so very realistic. 🏆
  5. Rob I'm pretty sure I remember this build thread and now knowing and remembering how the weathering pencils work, I'll absolutely be buying a set. The effects are brilliant and I need to develop a creative hand as yours. Thanks for the info and photographs.
  6. Scott Nothing more important then your wife's health and recovery. Sure, fooled me as to how the Cutlass was mailed and absolutely going to be a quality build.
  7. John What a terrific redo - awesome paint and weathering - surely the right touch. 🏆
  8. John Looking fantastic ... new life into a shelf queen who had seen better days.
  9. Scott Holy smokes, what a haul for sure: A Tamiya Tomcat and a Fisher Cutlass. Sure hope you are planning to have them cross the bench pretty soon.
  10. Paul Nice buys for sure. I've been thinking about the weathering pencils for a while and would appreciate your feelings and thoughts on them after testing them out. Then I would make a decision on whether or not to buy a set.
  11. Martin Nice to see you're back at the bench, break over and making nice progress again.
  12. Dave Nice stat on the masking and going to look awesome for sure.
  13. Chris Great to see your GB build is underway by tackling the seamless intakes first, which have always been the weakest part of the kit. Followed your Catalina build from start to finish and I do remember; ... knows how much I just LOVE grafting resin onto styrene.
  14. Rob I see what you mean and when working, my bench does get quite disorganized at times. It's become a habit over the years of labeling parts, so I don't confuse left and right parts or multiple parts that look nearly identical - just seems to work so much easier for me. I have to admit, I do have numerous small work trays (rectangular water mixing pallets) I keep small assemblies or groups of parts in until needed, as it helps me find the parts as a group, especially after removal from the fret and cleanups. For us Seniors who need to take lots of mulligans and easily forget where things are and spend a good deal of time looking for the parts. It's a time saver and cuts way down on where in the world is the part hiding. 😉
  15. Looking mighty good. I'm always amazed and envious of this type of computer work - for my generation, seems time has passed us by.
  16. Carl Right with Martin, awesome work.
  17. Rob No matter what the kit and its complexity, organization is a key that took me years to come to grips with and learn. Even on the Big Cat I'm working on now, with almost every assembly having right and left parts, each is labeled as soon a it has been removed from the fret - just saves time and guess work and peace of mind. You are going to love the Tamiya Clear Glosses ... awesome for sure.
  18. Kev Fantastic progress as you work your way through each sub assembly. No question, the PE while tedious and very time consuming, makes a huge difference. Enjoying following our progress with every update.
  19. Chris, thanks for p[osting, as this seems to finally answer the very long running question of these Mustangs colors. Nothing could be more definitive then information from Dana Bell.
  20. John Nice progress on the redo - looking mighty good.
  21. Carl Nice progress and agreed, the model is BIG! Of course, now I know how you can have so many projects underway at once and no issues: Fur is there keeping an eye on the goings on.
  22. Rob Love the prep and organization for sure. I always do as you do and label parts I remove from the fret that has at least a right and left, so as not to confuse which is which. I normally use a dot system indicating right and left on both the part and on the instructions to be sure and in case of more then two parts that look nearly identical, I number them. Just keeps the build moving along without discovering later on that the wrong part was installed and now backtracking needs to be done with lady Luck sitting next to me. Years ago, I went down that route and had a bin a very expensive model, as there was no fixing the multiple part eras. Feel the same as you about Mr Color Clear Gloss (there are a good number of them in the range) and I just don't get consistent results. These days I use either Tamiya X-22 or Tamiya LP-9 and no issues or worries at all. Go figure.
  23. Gorgeous work - simply beautifully done. 🏆
  24. Right with you and no better reason for a build. I have a few kits my son gave me many years ago and they are so very special to me.👍
  25. John Nice plan and gong to be a treat to follow.
